I love Psalm 46.10:

"Be still, and know that I am God."

In this rushing world, it is good to stop and meditate and remember Who God is, and what we are. The wonder is that He could send His beloved Son to redeem sinners.
Yes we are the creation, God is the creator, thanks, needing to remember this everyday

Psalm 100:4

New International Version (NIV)

[SUP]4 [/SUP]Enter his gates with thanksgiving
and his courts with praise;
give thanks to him and praise his name.
I love the Old 100th, especially sung to the tune used with the Scottish Psalter.

Blessings.

Today's reading was Psalm 58.

Praise be the Lord! "So that a man shall say, Verily there is a reward for the righteous: verily he is a God that judgeth in the earth." ... v. 11

I guess - I'm sure - this reward is not meritorious, because all that the believer has us by grace, through faith, but it's a matter of the Lord honoring those who honor Him.

Blessings.

Psalm 58 in its entirety ... Praise be the Lord for His righteous judgement!

58 Do ye indeed speak righteousness, O congregation? do ye judge uprightly, O ye sons of men?
[SUP]
2 [/SUP]Yea, in heart ye work wickedness; ye weigh the violence of your hands in the earth.
[SUP]
3 [/SUP]The wicked are estranged from the womb: they go astray as soon as they be born, speaking lies.
[SUP]
4 [/SUP]Their poison is like the poison of a serpent: they are like the deaf adder that stoppeth her ear;
[SUP]
5 [/SUP]Which will not hearken to the voice of charmers, charming never so wisely.
[SUP]
6 [/SUP]Break their teeth, O God, in their mouth: break out the great teeth of the young lions, O Lord.
[SUP]
7 [/SUP]Let them melt away as waters which run continually: when he bendeth his bow to shoot his arrows, let them be as cut in pieces.
[SUP]
8 [/SUP]As a snail which melteth, let every one of them pass away: like the untimely birth of a woman, that they may not see the sun.
[SUP]
9 [/SUP]Before your pots can feel the thorns, he shall take them away as with a whirlwind, both living, and in his wrath.
[SUP]
10 [/SUP]The righteous shall rejoice when he seeth the vengeance: he shall wash his feet in the blood of the wicked.
[SUP]
11 [/SUP]So that a man shall say, Verily there is a reward for the righteous: verily he is a God that judgeth in the earth.

Reward also in the sense of justification by faith; it's not meritorious in human terms.

As I see it, every manifestation of true righteousness must come from God Himself; human merit cannot attain to it.

The point of Psalm 58 is ... God's righteous judgement ... with that the righteous rejoice ... and that is the reward of the righteous.

Oh, yes: those who are reckoned just before God have pleasure in God's righteous ways.

The Psalmist first points out in 58, verse one: "Do ye indeed speak righteousness, O congregation? do ye judge uprightly, O ye sons of men?"

And then in verses two thru five, the Psalmist gives His answer: "Yea, in heart ye work wickedness; ye weigh the violence of your hands in the earth. The wicked are estranged from the womb: they go astray as soon as they be born, speaking lies. Their poison is like the poison of a serpent: they are like the deaf adder that stoppeth her ear; Which will not hearken to the voice of charmers, charming never so wisely."

The Psalmist's petition are in verses six through eight: "Break their teeth, O God, in their mouth: break out the great teeth of the young lions, O Lord. Let them melt away as waters which run continually: when he bendeth his bow to shoot his arrows, let them be as cut in pieces. As a snail which melteth, let every one of them pass away: like the untimely birth of a woman, that they may not see the sun."

And God's righteous judgement are in verses nine through eleven: "Before your pots can feel the thorns, he shall take them away as with a whirlwind, both living, and in his wrath. The righteous shall rejoice when he seeth the vengeance: he shall wash his feet in the blood of the wicked. So that a man shall say, Verily there is a reward for the righteous: verily he is a God that judgeth in the earth."

So as I said at the beginning ... Praise be the Lord!

To think there was a really Bible Discussion going on in the Misc. forum and I almost missed it!!

When I was depressed about 10 years ago from the pain and suffering of RA. I turned away from God. He whispered in my ear to read the Psalms. About the same time, I heard that Billy Graham read 5 Psalms a day. I did that for about 2 years, and God just spoke to me and restored me, in spite of my health issues. I do not let a day go by without reading from the Psalms, they are that inspiring to me!

I have so many passages from the Psalms, I hardly know where to start. But I will give you a life verse God gave me, which helped me obey God's call that I go to Seminary.

Psalm 71:17-18
"God, You have taught me from my youth,
and I still proclaim Your wonderful works.
[SUP]18 [/SUP]Even when I am old and gray,
God, do not abandon me.
Then I will proclaim Your power
to another generation,
Your strength to all who are to come." ESV

I now proclaim God to the next generation and also to the generation before me, and my own generation. Even if we are old and/or sick, God calls us to be his workers in a field that is white unto harvest.

Wonderful post, it was a joy to read all the verses in Psalms which people love!

David is recorded as a young man, as a mature man and as an old man. (No, Angel, you're not old! :) ) But in the Scriptures which deal with David at various stages of His life, God was with him evidently all the way.

Blessings.

[h=3]Psalm 1[/h]Authorized (King James) Version (AKJV)

[h=3]Psalm 1[/h][SUP]1 [/SUP]Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly,
nor standeth in the way of sinners,
nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful.
[SUP]2 [/SUP]But his delight is in the law of the Lord;
and in his law doth he meditate day and night.
[SUP]3 [/SUP]And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water,
that bringeth forth his fruit in his season;
his leaf also shall not wither;
and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.

[SUP]4 [/SUP]The ungodly are not so:
but are like the chaff which the wind driveth away.
[SUP]5 [/SUP]Therefore the ungodly shall not stand in the judgment,
nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous.

[SUP]6 [/SUP]For the Lord knoweth the way of the righteous:
but the way of the ungodly shall perish.

Psalm 1

Authorized (King James) Version (AKJV)

Psalm 1

[SUP]1 [/SUP]Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly,
nor standeth in the way of sinners,
nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful.
[SUP]2 [/SUP]But his delight is in the law of the Lord;
and in his law doth he meditate day and night.
[SUP]3 [/SUP]And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water,
that bringeth forth his fruit in his season;
his leaf also shall not wither;
and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.

A little similar to the Beatitudes ('Blessed...') in Matthew, don't you think?

Blessings.
