For John the Baptist has come neither eating bread nor drinking wine, and you say, He has a demon. The Son of Man has come eating and drinking, and you say, Behold, a man, a glutton and a drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and sinners. (Luke 7.33 – 34)

The above passage declares quite plainly that John the Baptist abstained from drinking alcohol, while Jesus drank alcohol frequently.
I will disagree with frequently, but you are correct. I had forgotten about that passage, and in so doing made a rash and harsh statement. I beg you forgive me, and I also thank you for pointing that out to me. Any erroneus portrayal of scripture should be discovered. You did so, and in doing so, you helped me and stopped the board from being misled by an inaccurate statement.

So far your examples are related to state of being drunk. You should know how to differentiate between drinking and drunkeness.
Do you know that in the OT tithes were not cash and if you are too far. The tithes should be coverted to cash for you to be able to carry it then convert it back again into goods. And part of it as God commanded was wine and strong drink.
[Deu 14:26] ISV You may spend the money to your heart’s content to buy livestock, flocks, wine, strong drink, and whatever you desire. You and your household may eat there and rejoice in the presence of the Lord your God.”

Matthew 24:47-51, Verily I say unto you, That he shall make him ruler over all his goods. But and if that evil servant shall say in his heart, my Lord delayeth His coming; And shall begin to smite his fellow- servants, and to eat and drink with the drunken; The Lord of that servant shall come in a day when he looketh not for Him, and an hour that he is not aware of, And shall cut him assunder, and appoint him his portion with the hypocrites: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.

Luke 1:15, For he shall be great in the sight of the Lord, and shall drink neither wine nor strong drink; and he shall be filled with the Holy Ghost, even from his mothers womb..... This verse was talking of John the baptist, the words that Gabriel spoke to Zacharias.

Every time you buy that bottle of wine, think of what you are supporting.

We use grape juice. You never know if there is an ex alcoholic in the congregation.
Well, this is your congregation's choice. I'm not sure it can be made into an obligation for all congregations everywhere, though. Blessings.

To each their own. I still say that the wine Jesus drank was mostly water and as the didn't have chlorine, alcohol was their chlorine.

It may possible for some of you to have 1 drink, but for me, 1 easily and most assuredly leads to 2 and after two, it's on to 4, 5, and 6. Thats why I had to totally abstain from any form of alcohol.

...but it was a real miracle that He did at Cana, right? when He turned the water into wine, real wine?

Liberals (which you are not, of course) tend to say it was really water with some coloring.

You should read my earlier post. These people had been drinking wine all day and then Jesus gave them some wine that tasted better than what they had been drinking. If you had been drinking strong wine all day, do you think you care what the last wine of the day tasted like. at that point rot gut taste good.

All that didn't mean a thing to me. I only used v20-21 to confirm the fact that offending our brethen in an uncaring way is sin, & that drinking wine was one of those ways mentioned.

Speaking of v21:
Romans 14:21 (KJV) [SUP]21 [/SUP]It is good neither to eat flesh, nor to drink wine, nor any thing whereby thy brother stumbleth, or is offended, or is made weak.

FLESH
Greek Strong's Number: 2907
Greek Word: κρέας
Transliteration: kreas
Phonetic Pronunciation:
kreh'-as

Root: perhaps a primary word
Cross Reference:
Part of Speech: n n
Vine's Words: Flesh

Usage Notes:

English Words used in KJV:
flesh 2
[Total Count: 2]

perhaps a primary word; (butcher's) meat :- flesh.

WINE

Greek Strong's Number: 3631
Greek Word: οἶνος
Transliteration: oinos
Phonetic Pronunciation:
oy'-nos

Root: a primary word (or perhaps of Hebrew origin <H3196>)
Cross Reference: TDNT - 5:162,680
Part of Speech: n m
Vine's Words: Wine

Usage Notes:

English Words used in KJV:
wine 32
winepress + <G3125> 1
[Total Count: 33]

a primary word (or perhaps of Hebrew origin [<H3196> (yayin)]); “wine” (literal or figurative) :- wine.

If you had only checked the verses I listed, you would have saved yourself a lot of time & trouble.
:)
You missed this part...

Rom 14:21 It is good neither to eat flesh, nor to drink wine, nor any thing whereby thy brother stumbleth, or is offended, or is made weak.

So I guess we just have to live on air.

Same goes for hitting the lottery, the money doesn't really change people, it just let's them be who they really are.

This topic is a perfect example of how much people will pervert scripture to meet their viewpoint.

There are several specific points made when Jesus turned the water into wine.

1. It was a festive occassion. The only reason for imbibing was the buzz.

2. They thought the best wine had been saved 'til last. Why? Because the best wine was habitually served first because after a few drinks the taste didn't matter.

3. It was a big wedding. Christ made a lot of wine.

4. Not only did Christ not condemn them for drinking an intoxicating beverage purely for recreational purposes, He enabled them to drink by making the wine.
Found this on the web...

"according to
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Firkin a firkin = 9 GALLONS or 34 liters

so if there were 6 water pots and each one had 2-3 firkins each...

there were 12-18 firkins all together...so it was something like this:
12 firkins x 9 gallons= 108 GALLONS
16 firkins x 9 gallons=144 gallons
18 firkins x 9 gallons= 162 gallons

Wow God turned water into wine not just 10 gallons, but 108-162 (((GALLONS)))
for this wedding feast.

thats like 22-32...five gallon water bottles. They didnt run out again.Thats for sure.

GOD DOES ((( NOT )))PLAY AROUND WHEN HE DOES SOMETHING "
