Before Arlene entered my life, I didn't have any clue what I wanted in a wife. The big non-negotiable was that she had to be a strong Christian - one who honours God, herself and others (duration didn't matter so much as dedication). Also, I would need to enjoy her and we would need to share some common interests. We would need to be able to have good discussions about God and life in general. A passion for children would be pretty important too. Finally, she would need to be able to appreciate my weirdness.

I did have a thing for red-heads, always have. Arlene doesn't have red hair - no worries, mate!
I've always been a sucker for soulful eyes and heartwarming smiles - she fits those to a T. :)

I feel very blessed and I pray that we'll draw closer to God, as we draw closer to each other.

wow. :) basically, what he said. ^

I feel like my "dream spouse" checklist was pretty simple before meeting my fiancé:

- loves the Lord
- loves me
- common interests
- accepts me for who I am

When I met and fell in love with my fiancé, I watched in awe as everything on my "checklist" was met..and so much more beyond that list, too! He is even BETTER than my "dream spouse", and I have God to thank for that!

A dream spouse? Well, it is a given that I am not an ideal person and the last time I checked, I am not living in an ideal world. But a few things come to mind:
1. Great if she is spiritually and emotionally mature.
2. We should have similar spiritual views. I am most comfortable on the most Catholic-like ends of protestantism (baptism is a sacrament, church services follow a liturgy, etc.).
3. Similar worldviews. I'm fairly conservative.
4. She keeps mentally and physically active. I'm not an athelete but I have a lot of activities and interests.
5. Similar aesthetic views. The fine arts are important to her. I grew up on classical music and I like to do things like visit museums.
6. She can accept a guy who is introverted and maybe a little eccentric - I don't follow sports or TV much but I can get excited about a book or about buying an ancient coin. If she is a little unconventional but not in a creepy or antisocial way that would be good.
7. She is an intellectual and is curious about the world.

Huh. That is a pretty interesting list.
I must agree on number 6. I don't follow sports or watch TV. Yet I have gotten excited about getting an old coin. Haha

I don't like talking about my dream spouse...she's just a dream. She's not real...

I guess my point is, I have sort of odd interests. Nothing bad. But yeah, I have for example a coin minted in Alexandria, Egypt. You can make out the Greek inscription. To me, that is exciting. Or I'll find some interesting old book and bring it triumphantly home. I couldn't be paired with someone who would greet me with, "What? Another book?" "But this is a neat concordance I can use for my Greek class. It has part of the Greek sentence and not just the word so you can read the context..." "I don't want to see it. Don't talk to me about your books and the classes you are taking. You want to turn the house into a library! Leave me alone, my show is on." I would rather stay alone than be in a situation like that.

In my most recent failed relationship, we had different ideas about Christianity. She was very much into end-times speculations and conspiracy theories and I am against that sort of thing. So toward the end more of our discussions were about things we disagreed about. Our views about life were rather incompatible.

And if my idea of fun is to go to a museum or hike somewhere and her idea of fun is to go to a noisy stadium for a football game, then I would bore her and she would annoy me. So having sort of similar lifestyles is probably a good idea.

Is my list unrealistic or too specific?

My dream spouse...

-Looks like Johnny Depp, only taller
-Is as sensitive as a Ryan Gosling meme
-Cooks like Gordon Ramsey
-Sings like Bing Crosby
-Loves it when I can't be bothered to get dressed before 4 p.m.
-Encourages me to ignore the housework and the kids so I can read and paint and be fabulous without mundane tasks dragging me down

I wonder how many people will take this seriously...

Perhaps a compromise is in order. You both could stay home and watch the game on TV snuggled together on the couch.

Not necessarily, Some similarities outside of faith are a good thing, but some differences are good too because they can create balance and challenge us.

Two extreme introverts together probably would never go out.

Two extreme frugalists (I think I just created a new word) would amass a tidy nest egg but never enjoy life.

Two persons who are not good with money would spend it as fast as they make it and not prepare for the future.

Etc.

Etc.

Emphasise the "DREAM" part huh?
I had a good smile at reading it though! If you find this guy, you had better frame him, because he is one of a kind.

Of course,

1) A heart that pursues the Lord
2) A heart that loves to worship the Lord in many or all aspects of life
3) I tend to be more attracted to men with darker features; like dark eye, dark eyes... But its not a have to. I know that in the end, if their heart is beautiful, then their outer body will become beautiful as well. :)
4) Someone who can inspire me in my faith and I can inspire them.
5) Someone who I can admire and know that I can submit to him because his heart is after the Lord.

Obviously, I know that we go through down and ups in life and there will be times when we have to really fight to keep our faith strong in the Lord... etc... I am aware of that so I do not expect the perfect man as I am not a perfect woman... But you get the idea lol. And I know he will not lead perfectly and will make mistakes, just like me, but that is all part of the beauty of building a strong relationship foundation and makes the adventure even more beautiful. :) Especially when you've been married 50+ years and can look into each other's eyes and know that all the hard moments you went through were worth it.

Okay, I'm done with all the mushy stuff hehe.
You basically said everything that I would have said! :)

Okay, my AKRick is heavenly because...

1. he fears the Lord God Almighty, and his heart longs to see our Lord Jesus Christ;
2. he is genuinely a man of prayer;
3. he seeks the Lord's mind before making decisions;
4. he is heavenly patient with me;
:eek:
5. he is the most handsome fellow on this side of Heaven;
6. he has the most amiable beard on this side of the Mississippi;
7. he is a man of integrity;
8. his IQ swells above mine;
9. he is amazingly polite & kindhearted;
10. ...and he is amoosing! See?

Banana, the best thing about your post is that it's NOT a dream, but your REALITY.

May we all be so blessed.

My dream woman has:

the baking skills of Pipp
the crunchiness of gypsygirl
the humor of grace_like_rain
the pencil skills of DutchessAimee
and the ability to argue like cinder.

If anyone finds this all in one woman, let me know. That or it is time for a harem!

See why I'm accused of having a male harem? There are some awesome guys around here and it's impossible to mash them up into one super awesome man ...soooo yeahhh.

* I would like to state that I do not indeed have a harem... that you know of.

That dream ship has sailed, I am completely fine having a cat instead. My dream cat would like to cuddle, give me lots of boops, and just be my pal.
