Many wonder why the Great Eagles didn't just carry Gandalf and Frodo to Mt. Doom to destroy the ring, thus saving a lot of time and lives along the way.
In Middle-Earth, Tolkien describes the Eagles much like the origin of the Ents. They are beings without Fëa, or souls, if you will. Without Fëa, they are not constrained to do good and are not bound to the same fates as the other creations of Illuvatar (like Elves, Men, etc.). Thus they are self-serving, and like the Ents, could only have been constrained to join the battle out of self-preservation or anger (after destroying Isengard and imprisoning Saruman the Ents went back to their normal business, they wouldn't have marched on Mordor because they couldn't see the danger).
They were proud creatures, and do not enjoy carrying burdens, seeing themselves above the "pack animals" of the world, only occasionally helping Gandalf because Gwaihir, the Lord of the Eagles was once healed by Gandalf.
To help Gandalf by flying them across Middle-Earth would have likely been seen as unneeded, or below them. And they likely wouldn't have seen the urgency or necessity of the ring's destruction (few people outside of Gondor even acknowledged the danger of Sauron regaining power).
Plus the obvious: the eye would have seen them.

True...There are exceptions. I would highly suggest the singles chat though . It really gives you a feel for some of the regulars and may very well help you feel more comfortable here in the forums and in the chat room as well .

The eagles did not want to be involved in this conflict. Still some people call it a plot hole.

This makes me think of a song, "Has Anyone Here Seen Grace?" It was from a children's music produce way back in the 90's. And welcome to the single's forum. The first time I was here, about 2 or 3 years ago, I also had a hard time fitting in on the forums. Like the others, it took time before the others started accepting me, and even then it felt like at times I wasn't. Coming back, a lot of those friends are gone, and a few of them like Zero are still here. It actually was easier this time around to be accepted, probably because there was one or two from way back when who remembered me. Welcome to our crazy family.

This will be the last thing I say on the whole Israel v. Palestinians and the bible. If y'all want to PM me about what I say, I welcome it. I just won't talk about it again in the thread.
I am a dispensationalist. That means I take the bible literally. I believe Israel is still Israel. Christians and the United States are NOT spiritual Israel. I do not believe Covenant theology. The bible is EXTREMELY easy to understand, and I take my God at his word. I always have.
Therefore, didymos, Israel is still Israel. They, Israel, (me included because rabbinical law says my mom and our family are Jewish) "of old" and current Israel are still the Israel of the bible. Israel has been secular while they were still in biblical times, so your point doesn't jive.
And Chandler, God didn't dismiss Israel because of their antics. He did divorce them, but he also said that he would ALWAYS keep his promises. He took them back anyway. Israel is Israel. Christians are grafted into the vine. Adopted, not the originals.
It's okay to believe that
I understand that you are passionate about this subject, but using bold and caps doesn't make it more true (but I do agree with you that the United States is not "spiritual Israel" or God's covenant people). Also, I will just say that literal interpretation serves us well for the most part, but we must also read every passage of Scripture in light of the entire thing.Either way, I look forward to the day when I will get to sit down in a theology class taught by Jesus and learn what the truth really is on these things. Until then all we can do is look to the whole council of God in Scripture to guide us in these matters, and I respect and admire that you seek to do that.

I have a fear of heights. I get all woozy if I am even 10 feet off the ground. Amusement rides, roller coasters, sky diving, etc. all can give me a heart attack.
Funny thing is I have flown so many times. Still, when I board a plane I am praying for my life.

Ohhh I'm afraid of heights too.
But I take great delight in standing at the edge of a great view or bluff or mountain. It's so majestic.
And I love the strap in roller coasters, even though I am always super nervous before it starts, but in the end, I love the sensation of feeling like I am flying.

Paying September mortage in the middle of August so I have more cash for our trip. I'm so tired of trying to pay for this darn trip. It will be fun but it's costing a lot. I guess it's worth it so I can see my Brother's. I miss them, hard part is I don't want to leave when we are finally all together.

I have always had a fascination with heights, particularly on planes. The clouds look like fluffy marshmallows up there. I think that I will catch the connecting flight, the destination is not important because the adventure is in the journey.

Despite my fear of heights, I do love flying. In fact I love travelling. Yes, the adventure is in the journey - all the hours spent in transit, hopping from one terminal to another, security checks, in-flight movies, in-flight food, etc.
