If we were all gorgeous then no one would know what gorgeous was (for one to be gorgeous there must be others that are not gorgeous that we can compare against and say, 'this one is gorgeous!').

Just like there can't be a concept of hot without cold, or the concept of joy without sadness, etc..

I tend to agree with you. It is like having friends. The more friends that you have the least significant each one becomes.

So, what you're saying, then, is that the question we must all ask ourselves is...

"Am I the one that gets compared against to determine that I am gorgeous or am I the comparison itself that determines I am not?"

I completely agree. That's why I've never understood people when they say someone isn't attractive. That goes for guys and girls. When you say that then you're essentially saying God didn't make an attractive creation. Which is false. Everything he creates is gorgeous.That's why I don't believe in physical standards. Only thing that should matter is if there's a relationship with Christ and chemistry.

Attractive means something different for everyone....
For me, it starts with the heart.
Then the smile, then the eyes.

The heart because then you know how genuine they are
The smile because you know if they are a happy, soft caring person
And the eyes because you can see straight through someones eyes and learn a lot about them

Its all about their character...

Looks are a bonus haha

Now wait a minute, Agricola!! Not ALL women are shallow!! A good share of them, yes, but not all. Out of all women in the world, a christian woman SHOULD be choosy and picky when it comes to following God's standards for a mate. I know quite a few men who are vain, shallow and visual.

You can't see a person's heart though unless you get to know them. And lets face it. Women are more likely to go up to a guy with a 6 pack compared to someone who is overweight. But in God's eyes they're both beautiful. As Christians "looks" shouldn't matter, since we are to live like Christ.

Wellll...

We live in a fallen world, and as fallen people we aren't perfect - inside or out. Jesus Himself was not physically beautiful.

Isaiah 53:2 says,

He had no beauty or majesty to attract us to him,
nothing in his appearance that we should desire him.

We can state that all things are beautiful - and it is true that God looks on all of his creation and says "It is good", but we can't really deny that some things are more physically beautiful to us than others. Wish it weren't that way, but realistically that's just how it is. I don't believe that beauty is such a blessing though. Many beautiful beautiful people are very very insecure and unhappy. I'd rather be mediocre and have joy.

Funny how you guys are talking about appearances not mattering and that nobody's ugly, and yet... there's a thread made of preferences and what one would rather have when comparing two features about someone as to who they'd date and who they wouldn't.

But yes, there is a distinction between attractive and unattractive and we all fall victim as to what we want to see and how we want to be seen. We judge even if it's subconsciously and tend to find certain things ugly (-ahem- I mean 'unattractive') about others and may even avoid it.

Guess I should refrain while looking like a jerk. I will say that I think for those who are unattractive by most standards, I can have a say because I've been on the other side.

Do you see every single guy that uses this site commenting and encouraging that thread? Yes it's proven we all have a sense of belief of what we physically like. It's our jobs as Christians though to give everyone the benefit of the doubt. We don't choose of how we are made of. By rejecting someone by physical standards you're essentially saying I don't think God did a good enough job creating you physically.

I was a psych major and took a social psych class. Part of it dealt with attraction. So it dealt with this. You're right. But more so than not. The term "eye candy" didn't come out of thin air.

BUT Yes a lot of girls do go for looks ANDDDD so do men....sooo....
