It's just flat out everywhere, people. Just because some thing ARE more overt, does not justify putting our personal feelings over the master plan. We need to be wayyyy more focused on winning souls and wayyyyy less focused on our personal "icky" feelings.

As a previous poster said, lets pray that people come to follow Christ. That as they accept Christ as their Lord and Savior, they demolish this statue... NOT because they are told to by the government entities, but because they CHOOSE to. In my mind, there wouldn't be a great victory for the Lord than the people displaying this statue WILLINGLY taking it down, all the while having the right to keep it up.
^ this.

Jesus said the kingdom of God is taken by violence. If we have to fight to stop the nonsense then we must fight. Read your bible
Oh,dear.. I do read my bible. That passage has been translated so many different ways, I don't even see this as a fruitful argument. Do a little research on that one.. Research and prayer..

Oh we must fight be brave against all evil never leave nor even lag behind if you must win for God and the right just keep on the firing line. How do you vote and how much crap will you put up with. Hoe much will you allow the government to shove down your throat. Homosexuals represent less than 1 % of our population yet they cram this junk down our throat. You do realize that God has destroyed nations for homosexuality.

Read your bible also, brother. And let's reach a prayerful understanding. John 18:28-36 for instance?

Then they will go the way of many people before them... and many still yet to come. And we will weep for them because we're called to be His light in this world. It SHOULD break our hearts. Not anger them. They are just as we once were. Were it not for the blood of Jesus, what would separate you from any given atheist, having not been grafted in? Not a whole heck of a lot. Made from the very same "dust of the earth" I'd say. It grieves my spirit that we are no longer compassionate for our fellow creations. I will pray for God to soften your heart, brother. And to help mine to understand where you're coming from.

Do you not want that for everyone? Does the bible say he's okay with some perishing? no. NOT... ONE... it says. He's not willing that even ONE should perish. And THAT should be our goal. Lest we break our own hearts and the heart of our Father.

WE are Hosea's wife. Not they. Not that one group, or this one religion. Who do we think we are that any creation of man can stand without the knowledge of God? I'll say it again, and I'll say it until I'm blue in the face. We have BIGGER FISH TO FRY.

And quoting a scripture out of context does a great disservice to us all...

Because this is a country that still has "In God We Trust" on its money. This country was founded by Christian as much as people want to revise history.Yes there is freedom of religion but this country was founded on Christian beliefs and I hate to see such a butt ugly, offensive statue dedicated to a false god. Yes, everyone will say "well your God offends me" To which I answer there are plenty of countries that dont believe in God so why not go there? This country was founded on Judeo/Christian beliefs. I hope the statue gets taken out by a tornado and no one else is harmed.
"God" is a generic term used to describe a higher power. It isn't specific to the God you and I worship, the God of Israel. There is not one place where the term "God" is used and it being specific referenced to the Christian God. They (the founding fathers) specifically wanted it to be this way.

Lets assume with 100% certain that 100% of the people that founded this country were Christians. As of now, and from the time the constitution was written, this nation has not been specifically for the Christians and our God exclusively. There is no official/national religion and there more than likely never will be. What relevance do the people who found this nation have to do with the fact they implemented freedom of religion which allows the Church of Satan to display such an "ugly" statue?

If that is the basis for your objection, you really don't have one.

I dont believe the statue holds any power. But I do know if this monstrosity was in my town I would not be happy about it.As I said this is a Christian country founded on Judeo/Christian beliefs. It irks me to see this dedication to a false god being erected.
I have very similar sentiments. The difference, I won't let my personal feelings rob people of their religious freedom. I thank God for the liberty I have to willingly worship Him in this nation... I would be a hypocrite to deny someone else their religious liberty even if it was directly against the teachings of the Savior Jesus Christ.

I don't particularly care to see homosexuals holding hands or giving each other a small kiss. Having said that, I would defend their right to do it on a legal level (not moral). Does that make sense?

I believe the government is here to protect our liberties (primarily) and not to enforce moral code for their citizens. Morals and values should be taught WITHIN the home by the parents. That is why the family unit is paramount within Christianity. I feel too often we rely on government to enforce these rules. Why not enforce them within our own homes and let government do what it was intended for and not to regulate morals?

Out of curiosity, what were you talking about when you said the government shoves it down our throat?

Only thing about that statue of the pagan god can really cause some problems, because if a parent bring their children with them, the kids will be startle by it and runaway as quickly as possible, and if they are running down some stair being afraid, they'll might trip and hurt themselves severely, and or the kids will be having nightmares of it as well.

To you and hannahbeth, respectfully,I disagree. John the Baptist called out the king in public because he was sleeping with his brothers wife.I do not believe John,Peter,Paul etc were they living today be ok with a huge statue to satan.I believe they would publicly rebuke it.If fact as someone once said I believe Peter or John etc. were they alive today, they would be thrown in prison within an hour.I grew up in a day in age with preachers on the street preaching the gospel. Now days that is forbidden. We,myself included, have been lulled to sleep with this PC nonsense.I cannot believe John the Baptist would see a gay couple being affectionate in public and not rebuke them and tell them Christ had a better way. These men were put in prison for a reason. What have we done lately to defend the gospel that would put us in prison?! Alas I convict myself in saying it.Its more than "icky" feelings about a statue. It's more than the statue is ugly,it could be the most handsome thing sculpted,my reaction would be the same. This is a statue to satan and it offends me to my very core.As it should any Christian. As I said I believe good old Peter or John wouldnt look at that and say "oh well, religious freedom" and go on their way.No sir they would not! Somewhere we take a stand for what is right.I disagree that the founding fathers didnt have the Christian God in mind when founding this country.I believe that to be revisionist history. Sorry but I disagree with you both on this one friends.

Well, to love and hold each other accountable, as we are called to do, is obviously going to lead to disagreements. And I applaud you for standing on your beliefs, but if you wouldn't mind indulging a young christian. Could you show me where in the bible the scripture states that we should legally fight a worldly battle over an icon?

I think Colorful raises an excellent point. These things SHOULD offend us, but what are we doing to change the hearts of those who erected it? And if anyone can show me where in our current laws it states that we're justified in stopping its been built, that would be useful as well.

Oh I totally agree its a matter of the heart.I know people who have been atheists and become Christians. I could not come up with a Scripture verbatim that says fight legally over a statue. But I still believe that the disciples would not have passed by a huge statue to satan and not had something to say. When Goliath came out and mocked Israels God David stood up and said to the others basically why are you letting this man mock our God?! And he killed Goliath. This statue is mocking our God and we as Christians.I'm sorry but I just couldnt pass that every day in my town and not be very upset by it.Our laws dont stop abortion either, and in some states gay marriage and the day is soon coming where Christians will be put in jail for standing up for what is right.

Ah see now we're getting somewhere. Do you think it's more effective to show those who feel the need to get an abortion love? To offer them help in their our of need? To show them the gift that is inside them? Or to stand in a large group, shouting about how they're murdering children? It all comes back to free will and condemnation, really. The greater testimony of God's work would be for those who put it up to decide of their own free will to take it down. Not for a group of christians to demand it be done, or to vandalize it. Also, fun fact, the statue has not even been agreed to be put up. They are merely building it in HOPES that it will be put there. They still haven't settled the lawsuit brought against the 10 Commandments monument. So they can't even approve it yet. There is still time for it not to go through. So, we could be praying that the hearts of these men are softened and redeemed through their wickedness as we speak, see? We can't limit god. We know where the true power is. So maybe the prayer we ought all to have on our hearts is how to combat this on a spiritual plane. We know God turns all things to good. For all we know, he may even allow this to be built to show that the reach of Satanic and Occult practice has now come full on out of the darkness in our country. This may just be the little "sign" some people need to wake up and smell the Book of Revelations, you know? I know it's hard to imagine. In short, I'd just hate to see mighty men and women of God to be afraid or even provoked to anger over this act which, if anything, shows the childishness of that faith. Lol I'm reminded of the Men's movement directly following the "burning bra" era of feminism. It's just a sad, public "....Oh, yeah? Well... we can do it too so *playground hand gestures*". This act is encouraging to me. Why? Because if tomorrow, the tribulation started, and every monument, church, or place of worship were demolished, I would STILL praise him and be filled with His Holy Spirit.
*selah*

Our God is too powerful to depend on symbols and Idols or even buildings to be praised in. But you know who isn't? Satan.. he needs these things. He needs deception, he needs idols, HE needs symbols. And I laugh in his face for it. Lol. He just wants to be God soooo badly. The poor, miserable creature that he is. So, as for me, I will continue to praise God and watch His will be done. Statue, or no statue.

Bless you sister. I think this discussion has been an eye opener for us all. And I pray that we each meditate on his word and will for our actions and reactions in these matters.
