I intend to spend this New Years Eve like most prior to it, just in the company of my wife this year. Sit up until midnight, then go out front and watch the fireworks on Pike's Peak. Yes, there is a group of men who, every year since 1922, start out the day before New Year's Eve and hike to the top carrying a bunch of fireworks on their backs and set them off at midnight. Every once in a while they turn back due to extreme temps/weather ("normal" temps up there this time of year usually include a windchill between -20 and -40 at night) and we miss out.
**edit** they don't actually carry the fireworks up themselves anymore, they're trucked up via the road earlier in the year and stored on the summit.
