Sure we have opinions but as a Christian the only thing I have a "right" to is to be dropped kicked straight into hell....but fortunately I am covered by the blood of Jesus.

By the way, Zero and I are basically brother and sister from other parents, so you know sibling love/rivalry has to show up. Okay, so we aren't really brother and sister, and have never even seen each other. But yeah, sometimes I feel like he's an awesome brother.

In small answer to this very existential question: I think an opinion matters truly if it is able to help another person.

And sadly "matters" when it hurts another.

Some an opinion has two "extremes", like a single coin.

Opinions matter because they reflect one's ability to make moral, ethical, or rational judgment. They show what separates us from the apes.

They are also helpful in determining truth vs. falsehood. Even if my opinion is wrong, for example, it is worth expressing and exposing so I know the idea doesn't hold water. Perhaps someone would entertain a wrong idea themselves if they had not heard it trashed.

Or maybe I had the right idea all along, but I need to find other facts or lines of reason the other person did not consider. Either way, debate and argument is a crucible for determining factual truth and logical consistency. Without opinions, this process would not happen.

i wish that hadn't been brought up. remember military protocol, anyone? there's this way, there's that way, and there' the MILITARY WAY. guess which one is THE ONLY ONE THAT COUNTS ? yep, the military way.(in the military).

likewise, read all through Scripture and see if / what/ Yahweh says about mankind and men's thoughts and imaginations and man's wisdom and man's knowledge...... (HINT: it's NOT GOOD!)

the one choice Yahweh the Creator gives men is whether or not to GLORIFY the CREATOR in YESHUA(Jesus the Messiah) , or to glorify man/self/flesh.

how much, what percentage, of man's thoughts and imaginations and devices and desires (it is written, the answer clear)

what percentage of all of man, is to be brought subject to the Master Yeshua ? (painful as it may be, it is the only Way - His Way; or out the door! )

wonder why so few know this or have heard this? .... .... ... in Scripture, this has never changed. but men have corrupted everything/ messed it all up! religion included...... so Yahweh the AUTHOR OF LIFE, says "whoever trusts in man (flesh), I (Yahweh the Creator) curse. and "choose today who you will serve...." blessing or curse. a very very real and true choice. hardly ever spelled out (in church), or recognized. (if it was recognized, who would then willingly seek to be cursed by the Creator (or cursed in any way at all) instead of BLESSED !?)....

"One man's trash is another mans treasure"

A person's opinion is only as important as you make it. You can take it on board or you can dismiss is. You choose whether and opinion is important or not.

Also, how you receive someone's words has a lot to do with who they are to you and how they say it (plus a lot of what people say isn't coming out of their mouth). It's hard to get the true basis of what someone is saying via social media and such because you don't know how they're trying to say it. It might be light hearted, it might be in jest. Sarcasm is hard to read. How you receive it also has a lot to do with your personal attitude/present emotion. If you're in a bad mood, you will will often receive things badly. Same for if you struggle with pride or if you're a defensive person (and this goes for if they say something to you in person).

Everyone's opinion is valid (no matter how ignorant), but how much it means to you is what you decide

A few times, even! He and I have been loosely connected for years and met up a few times in the past. I've met about...5 people in person that I initially met here on the site. All of them were from my first rodeo on CC, before I took a hiatus from the site.

And thank ya muchly, seoulsearch. Right back at you. ;)

Donkey, sorry, have to correct your definition on facts and opinions. An opinion can never be true or false. It is merely subjective. A fact can be proven true or false. Opinions are judgement, and facts are based on things that can be seen, heard, touched, tasted, smelled. In other words, facts are observed, and if they are true for one person, they will be true for another person, all the time, period.

And by the way, relative facts are not facts at all, but merely opinions that are masquerading as facts.
Some facts are relative. Yellow is a good color. That's an opinion, and also a fact for whoever holds the opinion but not necessarily true for everyone :p. If you don't want to use the word fact there, the word truth suffices in it's place. Though this is just a semantic issue.

Your statement and mine about what an opinion is and how it is to be defined is completely debatable both ways, and actually "provable" both ways by quoting different definitions (Or dictionaries, however you want to phrase it). As I'm sure your aware, there are multiple different definitions for most words in English. Some vary a little from each other, and some vary a lot. I can hunt down a definition that proves my point entirely, you can choose to select a different definition that proves yours entirely. Depends on what wording you prefer to use really so I see it as a pointless debate from a logical perspective.

Most so called facts, are just opinions (I think that's a fact but I'll just say it's my opinion). You and I can both observe the exact same thing and come to entirely different conclusions. Things that have been "proven" as facts for years often turn out to be total hogwash and complete and utter false hoods decades later. Human beings do not dictate what the truth is, though most of us like to think we do. Consensus on a subject and labeling it as a fact does not make it true if it in reality happens to be false :p, the thing is....most of the time people have no clue that this is the case, that's the only point I was making.

And it's not my definition of opinion. It's just a philosophical thought on the nature of opinion. My train of thought is a little deeper than mere semantics.

Women are right all the time.....In my opinion.......must keep this thing on track.......
ahahaha

One of my Catholics friends often adviced me to say, when hearing that, these words: "Si! mi amor. Sí! mi amor" and surely I know the reason why... Otherwise, a husband, will not receive his dinner. :p

It sems like a husband's opinion does not matter after marriage.

I read a quote somewhere - "Change the world before you get married. After marriage you may not even get to change the channel on your T.V.!" :p

Seeing how that in the end "the world will be judged in righteousness by that man whom God has ordained" (Acts 17:31), Jesus Christ, or seeing how that in the end the only "opinion" which will matter is Christ's "opinion", we'd be wise to spend the rest of our time here on earth aligning both our thoughts and our actions with His...even as scripture admonishes us to do the same:

II Corinthians chapter 10

[3] For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh:
[4] (For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds):
[5] Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;
[6] And having in a readiness to revenge all disobedience, when your obedience is fulfilled.

Again:

Philippians chapter 2

[1] If there be therefore any consolation in Christ, if any comfort of love, if any fellowship of the Spirit, if any bowels and mercies,
[2] Fulfil ye my joy, that ye be likeminded, having the same love, being of one accord, of one mind.
[3] Let nothing be done through strife or vainglory; but in lowliness of mind let each esteem other better than themselves.
[4] Look not every man on his own things, but every man also on the things of others.
[5] Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus:
[6] Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God:
[7] But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men:
[8] And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.
[9] Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name:
[10] That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth;
[11] And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
[12] Wherefore, my beloved, as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling.
[13] For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure.

The last that I heard, CHRIST was "the head" of the church. Forget about the world and it's "opinions"...most of the professing church is at odds WITH ITSELF...and its "head".
