What are some things you like smelling? This might be a weird thread but I was just thinking about some of the weird things/places I like to smell.

I'll go first
  1. Barnes and Noble (I like the way the books smell)
  2. Payless Shoe Store (I like the way the shoes smell)
  3. Pine-Sol
  4. Chocolate Chip Cookies
  5. Cinnamon
  6. Leather
That's all I can think of right now.

My grandmother's house in east TN has a certain smell. It's not a kind of cleaner, or a kind of food, or a kind of fabric softener or anything, it's just the smell that house has. I have a book that came from that house and sometimes I put my nose in the book (pun intended) and inhale deeply.

tourist - when did you turn 60?? Last I saw you were 59. Did you have a birthday WITHOUT me?

I like the smell of coffee. :) And citrus fruit. Oh, and sometimes the smell of victory.

On the strange end of the spectrum:
1. Freshly cut lumber (especially oak, pine, and cedar). You have to watch that one though some woods are kind of dusty and can be an irritant.

2. Black powder. Think muskets (although a lot of black powder stuff is rifled, and a percussion mechanism is not cheating if you don't want to have to knap your flint all the time).

3. Diesel fuel / Jet fuel. Both are made from Kerosene, so Kerosene might classify too (but it doesn't smell quite as good as the other two). Don't go inhaling the stuff on purpose though - that's asking for some serious trouble.

On the normal end of the spectrum:
1. Lavender. It just has a nice crisp clean scent to it. I always mix some lavender EO into my home made laundry detergent

2. Bergamot. Zesty citrus scent. Works well with a lot of men's scents. The real stuff again, so EO not FO.

3. Pretty much any freshly baked bread, pastry, or meat. Bonus points for all three.

And it should be noted that while I enjoy the smell of diesel, I do not enjoy most chemically derived colognes and perfumes. They always come across as way too strong (seriously, sniff a woman's perfume, and then sniff some gasoline, the perfume is stronger). Cloying, overbearing, and lingering are three adjectives I'd use for most of the scents people douse themselves with. And most people have no idea what a proper application is.

It should be like walking through a fine mist. Do not apply directly to the skin or clothing, or you'll smell like a chemical plant. And just a small mist too. I've seen way too many guys (and women) who stand there emptying the bottle like a firing squad dispatching a target.

It's so hard to narrow down just a few! Great thread :)!

1. I love food scents... so, so many, but some of my favorites are vanilla, cherry, and most especially, almond. Ah, and fresh baked goods... especially when made with loved ones.

2. I love the smell of roses and jasmine.

3. I love the smell of some people--we all seem to have our own original scents, even if they're "enhanced" (Axe body spray does not count!!), but the smell of some people is just so comforting. I know most people hate Old Spice, but I still smile when I smell it because my Dad used to wear it when I was little.

4. I still love the scent of Love's Baby Soft (cheap drugstore cologne) because it was the first "perfume" I ever received, and a gift from my grandparents. It smells like baby powder, and it's still one of my go-to fragrances. It makes me think of when my family got together when I was young.

5. Have you ever noticed that the weather has certain smells? I love the smell of a cool fall day or a sunny romp in the snow.

6. I love the smell of Noxema skin cream and Cover Girl makeup, even though I don't use the actual products. Guess it just must be the eucalyptus... (Maybe what I really want is a koala...)

Other than the wet dog, I'd say you're spot on with the rest of these.

I can't believe I forgot leather. Good leather smells fantastic. Oh man, when I ordered some horsehide when I made a couple of strops for my straight razors, I could not stop smelling it. The closet smelled amazing for months.

Freshly mowed grass.

When i was in the second grade or so my dad took to curing country hams and selling them. He and a friend would salt them and hang them in a dark place for weeks. The dark place my entrepaneur father chose was my closet. All my clothes smelled like country ham. I went to school smelling like breakfast. Kids would yell "grab yer biscuits boyz here cones the ham". Remember that weird smelling soap in school wash rooms? That was about all that would cover it up. To this day when i smell country ham i have to pee.

I like food smells - lately my place has been smelling of coffee, chai, butternut squash, garlic, onion, bacon, sage, citrus and most recently, lamb with rosemary.

the ocean - I occasionally take a sanity trip by myself to the coast, taking in the sights and smells.

pine, lemon, verbena, sandalwood, lemongrass

machine oil

bread baking - won't be smelling that for a while, at least at my place. Doing low carb.

- New plastic shower curtains
- Tires
- Shoe stores
- Sharpies
- That smell when you turn your heat on for the first time

Those are my weirder ones. Other than that, I can't list all the scents I love. I'm a scent-fanatic.

I forgot to mention various herbs and spices. There are too many to mention but I love them! (not coriander/cilantro though, fresh is evil)

Only someone who works in my industry will ever appreciate the smell of this stuff, most people would say it smells absolutely horrendous.
