I wear 10 or 10 1/2. So I could totally steal your boots! Ha.

I spent the better part of my teen years trying to make my hair be straight. For prom, I straightened my hair with a blow dryer and round brush, which took an hour, and then...curled it.
Yeah. Super silly.

I finally figured out that all I have to do is wash it, comb it, mousse it, and maaaaybe curl my bangs or pin parts of it up at random- 15 minutes, tops. So much wasted time before! Girls do goofy stuff.
yeah, i don't know if it's as goofy as spending a pile of money to have it thermally straightened by a professional, with the end result being neither curly nor straight.

my hair has a lot of ethnic properties in the curl pattern, so it requires "african level" straightening power, yet, the hair is so fine in diameter (from my welsh side) that it would destroy it if they actually used that much chemical.

so... the resulting effect was neither straight nor curly, but weirdly, unnaturally wavy, and worse if there was much humidity. like, it couldn't make up it's mind. the redeeming quality was that it was relatively easy to straighten with a dryer, 30 min later.

i did that for years until this guy who i started dating, who saw pictures of me with curly hair said, "why in the world would you ever do something to ruin your hair??? you look a million times better that way."

i was sort of dumbstruck that any guy had the courage to tell me that i looked worse currently because of that, and yet entirely endeared by such honesty. and the freedom that it spoke of.

and i finally stopped. doingallthat. he was also partly responsible for my eschewing spray tans. i used to really sort of hate the whole pasty and freckled thing because i grew up around a lot more melanin and felt so very awkward about being differently colored/featured than my siblings and parents.

i will always be grateful for his honesty. sometimes you just need one person to tell you that they see you. and the stupid, superficial, and goofy vanity-inspired idiocy just falls away like water on a ducks back.

acceptance can be so incredibly powerful.

Ugh, chemical straightening...ugh. I let the girls at beauty school use my hair to experiment and practice a lot, since I was the only one there with naturally curly hair at the time. Soooo, guess who got their hair chemically straightened? Yeah. It was horrible, it fried my hair and all I could do was wait for it to grow out and cut it off. One of the teachers kind of half-heartedly suggested that we could try spiral perming it to "fix" it, and I told her no way because...hello, my hair would basically just burn off.

I used to hate my hair because I just simply didn't know how to handle it...it was so poofy and frizzy. Finally, when I was 13 I went to a church camp for highschool age kids (my mom sent me with my sister) and a girl I'd never met before saw me the first morning trying to tame my hair and she just wordlessly handed me a bottle of gel and a pick. So after that, when I wasn't trying to straighten my hair, I was coating it in a handful of gel...which made it fairly flat and not at all frizzy, but was super crunchy and sticky to the touch. I was married before I randomly decided to buy mousse instead of gel one day. IT CHANGED MY LIFE bahahaha.

Anyway, I really admire you for coming to terms with having curly hair and pale skin, those features are so awkward to live with when you're younger and it seems like everyone else around you is different. It's awesome to see women get past that and be able to say "Hey, I LIKE me".

Naturally curly hair looks good. Straight hair that has been curled looks... weird. It never, NEVER looks natural. It looks like weird loops of pasta hanging off a girl's head.

Naturally straight hair looks very good. I dunno, just something about a woman with long, straight hair gets me right in the heart. Curly hair that has been straightened looks just wrong. Artificial, never really straight, never as pretty as naturally straight hair and yeah - fried.

Is it terrible that I can listen to the sound of mewing kittens for ages? Well little ones, the bigger ones get way too loud.

All right Lynx, I have to contest this. I usually don't use a pic as an avatar but in order to make this post, I guess I have to go back to using an old pic.

My hair is naturally straight. STRAIGHT straight. As in, a straightening iron would fear my hair because it falls so dead flat straight.

And because it is so flat and fine, I get perms. Beauticians are always terrified of my hair because they always say, "Asian hair doesn't take perms," and want to do all kinds of experiments on it like spiral wraps and use rollers the diameter of a pencil. I always tell them, "Trust me. My hair will take it." Now granted, I've pretty much gotten the instructions down pat--they need to use the purple or peach rollers, depending on how long it is at the time, roll it into as small of sections as possible, and use two perm solutions, and... voila!!! I've had times where every beautician in the salon came over to run their fingers through my hair because they couldn't believe it.

The even more amazing thing is that it also STAYS curled until I cut it off, even though I wash my hair every day. In this picture my perm is over a year old. I actually have a much harder time convincing people that my hair is naturally straight and no one believes that my hair isn't naturally curly.

LOL... I'm thinking... You're going to call me "Noodle Head"... and that's ok. ;) I've been called worse, and coming from you, I won't mind. Especially if you throw in some sourdough bread and chocolate.

Why lie to me about being allergic to peanuts when you know I talk to your mom frequently and may just check up on that. And then try and tell your mom you said you told me you hated peanuts, not allergic. Hey, I don't let kids step outside to not do a lab activity, simply because they hate peanuts/peanut butter. And it was Almonds anyway, not peanuts, which is not related to peanuts. Sigh.

seoulsearch: The avatar is small but from what I can see it looks artificial. Naturally curly hair just... has a different look. I can't quantify it, it's just different.

But I would mention that what I stated before is my opinion, and as such is just as valid as (and no more so than) anyone else's. And it's your hair, which makes my opinion less valid than yours. If it makes you happy, go ahead and curl it.

But I still think it's a waste of perfectly good, beautiful straight hair...

Okay Lynx, you have me curious now. Of these two pics, which do you believe is the real hair texture?

Beats me, I'm no expert. All I said was from what I can see I thought it looked artificial. But from what I can see of those two pics, they both seem off somehow. I'd have to see the straight hair in motion to tell for sure.

Whyfor you hide face? I know why I don't post pics of me... because I never like how I look in pictures. But I'm curious why someone's (yours?) face is hidden.

In other news, Aunt Diane is coming to visit tomorrow so I threw together a pot of chili to simmer tonight. Of course it won't be really good until tomorrow - that's just how chili is. Thing is, I was putting stuff in the pot and the chili was growing and I put stuff in and it kept growing... until we have quite a large pot of chili on our hands.

Anyone want to come over tomorrow night for a bowl of chili?

As far as hair texture goes, Lynx, we ladies DO appreciate what you're trying to say.

I think you're trying to tell us that many of us look good in our natural state and shouldn't feel pressured to spend a lot of time, money, or pain in trying to change something natural about us.

And I am very grateful that you do think that way.

You've spoken about your Aunt Diane several times and how much you enjoy her company... I hope you and your family have a wonderful visit together tomorrow. :)

Aunt Diane is one of the ones with beautiful, long, straight hair.

And I think we have that pot of chili taken care of, mostly. We called up uncle Fred and aunt Lucy, and we called up uncle Brent and aunt Lisa, and they'll all be here about 6pm tomorrow. There will still be some leftovers, but not too much.

Actually I think we still have enough of a block of sharp cheese that I could get out the grater and have fresh grated cheese to put on it. (Much better than that pre-grated stuff that is - I kid you not, read the ingredients - coated with cellulose (wood) powder.)

HA HA HA, funny you should mention this, Blue. I've actually had people "tug" on my hair and ask me if it was one of those clip-in ponytails... because they said it was actually too shiny or bouncy to be real hair... LOL!!!

If I ever did go bald though I'd just have to get used to it--I know a wig would drive me crazy because it would feel too scratchy and heavy. I admire women who can wear weaves and hairpieces--many of them look beautiful--but I can't even stand fake nails, let alone anything else.

Here are my random thoughts:

I just ate lemon chocolate and I liked it, what the heck is wrong with me? I have to get my stuff together for art and I have to get some sort of study plan in the works. I need to figure out if the health paper is going to be done in groups or individually but I can do that tomorrow at school.

I can't wait for tomorrow because I get to see my boyfriend and I am happy about that. i have been pretty lonely today but whatevs. I sound like a prissy teenager. lol oh well. I love CC cuz I can do stuff like this. :)

There's my random string of thoughts.

Oh last one: I love Jackie Chan!!!!!! ROFL

I also doubt her hair is fake. But the "artificial" to which I was referring did not mean she was wearing a wig.

But it did remind me of Wendy Bagwell's audio track "They all wore wigs" so I had to dig through my collection and listen to it again. Unfortunately I can't find that track on youtube so I can't share it with y'all. Ah well. He was talking about how after a long drive, if he doesn't have time to freshen up before the show he may look a bit frazzled - but all the girls have to do is "sop on a new head of hair."
