When I was little my sister and I were eating our breakfast my mom would read us the bible and ask us questions to ensure that we understood it.
2. What is the best dish your mom cooked?
Every Christmas my mom makes a seven layer Spanish Dip that is famous within our family and you must eat it with Doritos to get the best experience. Then my mom is also known for making good Deviled Eggs. It is delicious.

1. What is your favorite memory of your mom?

Oddly enough it was after my Grandmother died. Mom was grieving, and she just needed a day to sit and watch our favorite movies at home. So me and her sat and watched movies together. I was just happy to be there for her and comfort her by doing something she enjoyed.

New Questions in honor of Mother's Day:

1. What is your favorite memory of your mom?
My mom is a hard person for me. I'm not sure I have a favorite.

2. What is the best dish your mom cooked?
Cheese Soufflet. Hands down. Mostly my mom hated cooking and gave the job to me full time at 8, but the things she could make really launched my interest and career in cooking.

3. What is the funniest thing your mother ever did?
First Easter I hosted, my room-mate brought a bottle of wine. My mom, not being much of a drinker, had two glasses before dinner, went to sit down on a kitchen table chair and BOUNCED off of it onto the floor and dissolved into a fit of giggles. I was being far too big in my britches and was tackling my first leg of lamb and Seder style dinner (Passover fascinated me and I thought it would be fun to try). It was a very silly day.

4. What is the best piece of advice your mother ever gave you?
The worst answer you can hear is, "No" when asking for things from my dad. Wasn't always the worst thing we could hear, but it made asking less scary.

5. What television show title best describes your mom?
Family ties.

1. What is your favorite memory of your mom?
No ONE memory specifically. She was always one for spontaneous road trips. There were many Saturdays where I thought I might just watch cartoons all morning, but within a couple hours, I was swimming in the Yuba or Tuolumne or American River and window shopping in the antique store of some small podunk Northern California town.

2. What is the best dish your mom cooked?
I'll try, but there are really way too many to mention. Enchiladas, Cornish Pasties, lasagna, crepes....you name it, she could cook it! She was also a master of cakes. I inherited the cooking gene, but not the baking gene. I mean, I CAN bake, I just don't like to (except for holidays).

3. What is the funniest thing your mother ever did?
She had a pretty good sense of humor, but if I shared any of it here, I would get banned. :p

4. What is the best piece of advice your mother ever gave you?
"Who cares what they think?"

5. What television show title best describes your mom?
She was kind of an odd mix between June Cleaver and Roseanne.

New Questions in honor of Mother's Day:

1. What is your favorite memory of your mom?
When she worked for a company locating buried cables, she'd take us kids with her a lot during the summer...it usually meant getting to go out to breakfast, and listen to her and my uncle crack jokes and talk politics while we drove all over Colorado.

2. What is the best dish your mom cooked?
Um...she made some "interesting" food...maybe banana bread, that usually turned out safe.

3. What is the funniest thing your mother ever did?
Probably telling the one-armed man that she didn't seem to have enough hands. Way to go, mom.

4. What is the best piece of advice your mother ever gave you?
Something all smart-sounding about staying away from men who disrespect their mothers, maybe. Hard to say, she's given a lot of advice.

5. What television show title best describes your mom?
Oh dear, I don't know...if there's a sitcom about a really awkward 50-something woman who loves her family, eats too much salad, and can't tell a joke to save her life, that'd be it.

New Summertime Questions:

1) Did you have any traditions as a kid that you use in your life now?

Home-made pizza and root beer floats. We did that once a week and whenever my family gathers together, we still do it.

2) Have a favorite summertime memory?

We spent our summers at the lake, nearly running wild. All of those years of time at the lake kind-of run together in a swirly memory of Hawaiian Tropic dark tanning oil (that smell!), warm skin, water, fishing, amphibians, bonfires, burnt marshmallows, wet hair, watermellon, burgers, and laughter.

3) Do you water ski, how good are you?

I'm not good. I haven't been up on skis in a very long time.... maybe 25 years? I don't know if I could get up on them again.

4) What summertime memory would you like to live again?

The lake with my sisters and that whole group of kids, being kids again. We're all middle aged now, mostly with kids, mostly married... but one weekend together and being our dorky, akward but unaware selves.

5) Do you spend time in the sun or out of it?

I spend time out of it now. I miss being suntanned and warmed through like that, now I protect myself. B)

New Summertime Questions:

1) Did you have any traditions as a kid that you use in your life now?
Growing up, our family always went on a camping trip with another family - they were friends of my dad's from his Army days. My dad used to be a park ranger, so he knew all the best campgrounds in California. We were tent campers and always considered people who camped in RVs to be kind of wimpy.

My ex hated camping, so we never went. After we divorced, I took the kids on a couple camping trips and they loved it. One trip was in the Santa Cruz mountains, and we accidentally visited a nude beach (I've told that story here a couple of times), and the other was two years ago, when we camped near Crescent City - but first tried to visit a relative in Anderson, CA, then went up to Oregon, headed west and went down the coastline to arrive back in California to our destination. The kids wanted to travel to another state, because crossing some sort of line thrilled them at the age they were, and I wanted them to see the Oregon coastline..

2) Have a favorite summertime memory?
As a kid - the various road trips. My dad, no longer a ranger, had a desk job but traveled a lot to various areas in California to the many state parks. During the summer I would go with him sometimes. I remember a trip to the Salton Sea at the extreme southern part of the state, and another in Modok County, in the extreme north. So I pretty much went all over the state. One of my favorite memories was going with him to a ghost town called Bodie. I don't remember what all he did exactly, but I think it had to do with developing the area for tourism while maintaining conservation efforts and all that.

3) Do you water ski, how good are you?
I've been a couple of times. I was able to stay up after some practice...but it's not really my thang.

4) What summertime memory would you like to live again?
I loved to walk by myself in the woods. I would go for about 20 minutes and try to get lost, then make my way to camp. I had a good sense of direction that would never allow me to succeed in getting lost. I have no idea why my parents let me do this at such a young age.

5) Do you spend time in the sun or out of it?
I don't lay out in the sun or anything, but my work has me outside a lot. I don't apply protection, but I rarely burn. I do tan and freckle a bit, though. My tan looks a little bit orange-ish, like I used that bottled tan stuff or went to a "fake and bake."
