Just a comment on this, while I believe that some (and I would stress some)
ailments can have a spiritual dimension to them, this is by no means all. I think
it is unwise to assume that all RA for example is caused for the reasons that
you give, or for that matter, that all Auto Immune disorders are for the reasons you give.
There is a lot science does not know about the human body, we live in a fallen world,
DNA has become corrupted, we battle the world the flesh and the devil, our diet
over the years has also had an effect on health. Much of what we eat is not even real
food any more, just made up chemical compounds.
Does any of this mean God cannot heal - certainly not.
Does any of this mean modern medicine should be ignored - absolutely not
Examples:-
10 years ago I developed graves disease (a form of over active thyroid disease), which
is an auto immune disorder where the anti bodies attack the thyroid gland. It was
at a time in my life when things could not be going better, I had a secure job, I was
an active member of my church, I was growing in the Lord, there was no insecurities,
no self rejection, no self bitterness etc.
I do believe it was genetic, my mum and two cousins have had problems with thyroid
disorders. I prayed, I believed and God showed me He would heal me when the time
was right. Why there was a delay I have no idea but I have an inkling it was about
my own spiritual growth and faith. But when the healing came I knew for sure
it was God's doing and not man's despite the medication I was on.
Truth be told there is no direct cure for graves disease, medicine can only try
to control the hormonal imbalance via medication (which I accepted) and offer
radioactive iodine treatment to destroy the gland, which I rejected as I knew God
would heal me and he has.
I was told repeatedly there was an 90% chance of it returning within 5 years and
it has not happened. Praise God.
It has left me with another underlying disorder which is no big deal, I should prayer
more about that, but because it is no big deal I probably have not been consistent
in praying about it. Again it is something medical science has no cure for.
But my point is that diseases happen for all manner of reasons, we cannot make
generalisations that they all occur due to spiritual matters.
Can God heal all diseases regardless of their origin, yes he can.
I have also been healed of two woman's problems in the past and a joint
problem without medical intervention. Not that I have a problem as I say
with seeking medical advice, its just that in those instances God was my first
port of call. On each occasion they were genuine bodily physical problems
and did not occur due to self hatred, self bitterness etc.
I have a friend who last year developed breast cancer, she has some learning
difficulties so she did not do anything when she first noticed the lump and left it
really late to seek medical advice. By the time she did it was a significant cancer
and had spread to her lymph glands.
We were all there for her during treatment praying, supporting. She also moved
house during the treatment stages due to a problem she had with a purvey
neighbour and so we helped her move and decorate.
Early this year after surgery, several rounds of Chemo and radio therapy,
she got the all clear. But when she first started the treatment the doctors
were not too optimistic. Also at one point she had her lymph glands removed and
the doctors said she would have also sorts of problems with her arm swelling
and the side of her body - it never happened. The power of prayer and the
goodness of God has overcome it all.
Was she spiritually oppressed, self hating etc - no she was and still is the most
bubbly, happy, wonderful, optimistic prayerful person you could ever meet.
Her strength astounds me!
Praise God.
