Someone revived my thread! I'm ecstatic!
Don't worry it was never dead, merely sleeping. That comes when the Nominee is nominated for the GOP. Then I suppose we'll have to make a general election thread.

Until that time, it has been some while since you had your pet favorites. Now that the field has formulated more what's your opinion so far?

You know, I like Fiorina, but she makes me wish Sarah Palin had enough political support to throw her hat into the ring.

I'm too busy with politics at the local level right now to really focus or care about an election that is a year and a half off.

I'll show some cards when it comes to my preferences though.

When it comes to choosing a man or woman for elected office I have two criterion- ability to communicate/evangelize the message and a proven record of turning ideas into reality.

Of the two, I like the record. I like experience in administration and influence-wielding in the capacity of an executive or asimilar capacity.

Naturally then, I gravitate toward governors, am skeptical of senators, and rarely consider people with no governing experience. My favorite candidates and prospective candidates are Walker, Perry, and Jindal.

The next level are the personal stories. People on this site are free to believe what they will. I wouldn't listen to some forum jockey who claimed to have all the personal contact I claim to have, but I'll just say that I am pretty well-connected and place a premium on character references given to me by people who have served as staffers to these candidates. It's also a decent way of knowing who may or may not make it out of the race with their reputation intact...just sayin'.

So based on all these factors, my favorites so far are Walker, Perry, and Jindal.

As for political calculations? Well, like I said, I'm too busy calculating at the State House level to really care what is going on at the national.

Lol, Sarah Palin's political day came and went me thinks. I liked Sarah Palin, but I am sure she herself is even far better off outside of government. Carly Fiorina seems better suited for this election. I think though like Ben Carson she'd be better off to run for an office like Congress or maybe some state department type job. Still she adds to the debate positively and her running makes it possible to enter US politics somewhere later on.

So far we got Ted Cruz, Rand Paul, Marco Rubio, Mike Huckabee, Carly Fiorina, and Ben Carson in for certes. Jeb Bush, John Kasich, and Lindsey Graham are likely possible to jump in still since the field formulation phase is still underway. The whole list so far is fairly representative of the disparate GOP factions, but only one can be picked to try to reunite the GOP as one.

Fiorina is better suited for the election, but Palin is, far and away, the one better suited for governance.

Well with the first GOP primary debate swiftly approaching I figure I shall revive this thread again. From the last time we have talked the GOP primary field has grown tremendously, and of course Donald Trump has once again like previous campaigns jumped in early to kick over sand castles. John Kasich, the best qualified candidate, has also jumped in lately, but whether he will make it to the debate is to be seen.

So what is everyone's thoughts and analysis of the campaign so far? What are expectations for the debate? Whom of the candidates are in your top 10 that you'd like to see in the debates?

Well as social issue become more important because of all the recent attacks by the supreme court against the people...I think I am kinda waiting to see if any of these more successful governor types will be willing to take up that battle?

Yea I see what you mean, though I am not big on the social issues at least when it comes down to voting since I perceive most the politicians, especially the GOP, to talk a good talk on the social issues, but they never follow through.

I am not meaning so much on whom you think will win the nomination, or whom you will vote for. We will cross those bridges when we reach them. Moreso interested in your analysis of the campaign-to-date, and expectations, theories, and/or analysis of the upcoming debate.

To answer my own questions for an example; my analysis of the campaign so far is that the GOP was running pretty solid until Trump jumped in. Trump has single-handedly laid to waste most of the candidates in the GOP field and turned the GOP into a circus attraction. Things are certainly looking good for Hillary at the moment.

Touching on the upcoming debate a little side plot to look for is the GOP will have an opportunity here to get their party back on the rails with this debate. However there is of course also the chance the opposite will happen, especially with Trump and other F-list GOPers put together on the same stage, and it may turn into more of a circus than it is right now. It is also potential that Trump will lay so much waste to the GOP that the Republican Party could become so thoroughly illegitimized that it ceases to exist as a party. Either way, should be somewhat entertaining.

On the more serious side of things I am hoping Kasich will get to the debates and be able to show off some of his amazing record of positive results, which is what really sets him apart from the rest of the GOP field as the only viable alternative to Hillary Clinton.

On my fantasy 10 for the debate: John Kasich, Rand Paul, Marco Rubio, Ted Cruz, Jeb Bush, Lindsey Graham, Scott Walker, Bobby Jindal, Mike Huckabee, and Rick Santorum (Obviously in my fantasy match-up it would be a serious real politick debate, so it is unlikely this match-up will occur.)

I would say that Hillary has been really hurt recently..I think they may be some danger she will not even get the nomination ..

I guess I like the Governors ..and would support anyone of them who really took a strong stand against the moral perversion of our society...I cant see past these issues this election...too much in on the line to accept a republican candidate that wont fight this battle for the people.

In terms of Hillary, I think she is actually in a stronger position since she has been able to cultivate her base and with the whole Trump dynamic much of attention has been taken off of her, which will work to her advantage since she is all ready so well known. I highly doubt Bernie Sanders or Joe Biden will be able to seriously contend with Hillary.

As for the governors, being governor is one thing, but the record as governor is another. This is why I favor Kasich, compared to the other governors in the running Kasich actually has a positive record as governor, even an exceptional record. This is what makes him the strongest GOPer to put up against Hillary. Not only can Kasich contend with her rhetorically, but he can back it up with his record, something almost no other candidate in the GOP or even Democrat party can do.

As for social issues, yes I agree it be nice if they would fix these issues, but I like to be a realist, and realistically not a single candidate will do anything about the sexual abuse and abortion problems in America. It's a reoccuring theme for every campaign I have seen. Some say they will do something, but they never do. I have absolutely no confidence in the government on this regard. Especially in this election many of the GOP field are not even pretending anymore that they'll do anything positive about those issues, but say bluntly they will either go with the flow or will compromise themselves and the nation.

Of course they wont do nothing if we don't expect them to do something...Its just not a option for some us to again allow some abortion and gay agenda approving republican to represent us...It don't work and if we don't demand it..it sure wont happen. If the republicans want the Christian vote...let them find a candidate that represents our values...its that simple for me and many others. If they want to lose again they can find another McCain or Romney.

I agree with your principle, but realistically not a single candidate in the GOP or Democrats will do anything about those issues. That's just the bleak reality of this time era.

Lol you pretty much described in part on why I refuse to vote between the two parties. Nevertheless, whether we vote or don't vote at all, the government of America is by law our servants and the citizens are the kings, at least for the time being. We therefore must be prepared to analyze, manage, and influence our servants by any means necessary no matter whom they may be.

I am not at all a Trump supporter, but I don't think he is a troll at all, I think he actually believes what he says, and there is a certain strain of logic to his views. It has been amusing to watch Trump annhilate all the GOPers that try to rise up against him, especially between him and Lindsey Graham. It would seem on the surface to be wise for the other GOPers to ignore Trump, but that's not possible since Trump will not let himself be ignored, plus they will soon be standing a few feet away from him soon enough. I do think he'll drop out soon enough though too, so really the other GOPers just gotta endure and they have to bolster themselves as individual candidates and as a party. That's what I was meaning by there is the potential here for the GOP train to get back on the rails with this debate, but then there is the potential for them to go so far off the tracks that they crash, so we shall see.

As for Cruisin with Cruz, I don't particularly care for Cruz either, but that is a pretty catchy slogan, you should copyright that and sell it to him.

Oh, I do like Cruz.
On Trump, my hunch is that the Big Boy Media is backing him so they'll have someone they can stick needles in if he makes it to the general.

My hunch on the media coverage of Trump is like Trump himself said in his running announcement and he has bought off sections of the media to get him both coverage and to create polls which favor him.
