I might do general ed at a community college. I'm not sure. I wish I could see all the possible outcomes, but I can't. It's driving me insane. Work-study doesn't do a whole lot from what I've been told. It's not the recommended route. Grants, I've never been able to find any that fit my criteria. And soon enough, when dad gets married, we'll make too much money for any sort of aid. Because parents are expected to help. America is crazy when it comes to college and tuition and financial aid. It's hair pulling stressful.
One option might be to see what type of financial assistance you can get from serving an enlistment in the US military or even the National Guard or reserves. It may be substantial.

Going through boot camp hell is not for everyone, and I don't think it is for me.

I highly respect those who do serve our country, though. I have friends who have gone into National Guard. My dad and my aunt have been part of the navy. I've had cousins who served (though one came out a bit loopy in the head).

Ultimately, I'm gonna have to play this by ear, and I'm gonna do what God says. Life can change a lot in 3 months.

If I win the lottery, I am paying for all your tuition and expenses. Every single cent! That's a promise.

(and this isn't meant to be a joke either)

My daughter is signed up for the work study for her upcoming fall semester, and it's about 16 hours a week and pays $2100 for the year. It definitely helps. Also, when you apply for FAFSA, they will automatically enter you for student grants based on income. They go off of your father's 2014 tax return, so marriage shouldn't have any effect this next school year. If you do plan to enroll, hurry and get that done asap before the grant money runs out.

It's overwhelming, I know. It was for ME, and I'm not even the one going. I hope that your father will help you with it all. It's a lot to do on your own.

I was looking through my Facebook timeline and chuckled, because I noticed some of my female friends refer to their long term boyfriends or fiances as their husbands. They will even change their relationship status to married before they actually are. I have never heard one of my guy friends refer to his girlfriend or fiancee as his wife or has he prematurely changed his status on Facebook to married. The closest might be referring to her as "his old lady" (not in front of her of course lol). Just another quirky difference it seems.

That seems really odd to me... to refer to someone as my husband on facebook before the wedding or even engagement. O_O

me too, and confusing to people
If I remember correctly, aren't there some states in the U.S. where if you refer to your boyfriend/girlfriend as a husband or wife, you are automatically common-law wed? These people better watch out! :p

Yep, Colorado is one of them. What makes you common law married here is not how long you have cohabitated, but how you present yourselves to others.

Based on the law here you could live together 20 years, have kids together, own a house and cars with both names on the titles and not be common law married; or you could live together for 24 hours and be common law married the deciding factor is how you present yourselves to others.

Actually it makes perfect sense.

Marriage (legally) is a contract. If you have lived together for 20 years and present yourselves as boyfriend/girlfriend you are not married.....you are boyfriend/girlfriend. If you have lived together for 24 hours and present yourselves as husband/wife there is the legal presumption that you have entered into that contract.

If you look at marriage biblically (as in 2000 yrs ago) marriage is a covenant between a man, a woman, and God. In the days of the early church there was no such thing as State recognized marriage (having to get a license) and although the church recognized the sanctity of marriage as given by God there was no such thing as a wedding ceremony as we know it.

after looking, and spending some time on all the forums today reading, i want to commend you men who are "regulars" in the singles forum.

i really admire the fact that you guys refrain from bashing women, including your ex'es. it's so very encouraging to me that you contribute to this forum in such a positive manner and set a great example for those of us here. even in threads where the topic necessitates discussion of such a thing, it's done in a very respectful manner.

anyway, wanted to let you know that not only that i notice this, but am appreciative of your godly examples.

as i was writing this, there was a verse that popped into my head as well.

Likewise, urge the younger men to be self-controlled. Show yourself in all respects to be a model of good works, and in your teaching show integrity, dignity, and sound speech that cannot be condemned, so that an opponent may be put to shame, having nothing evil to say about us.

I am currently enrolled in a Community College near where I live where I am majoring in Accounting and I absolutely love it. I started college after six years of being out of high school and I was a nervous wreck of failing out, the work load, and of course the financial responsibility. I applied for Financial Aid and I was able to get my tuition paid for and applied for several scholarships. There was a couple times where I needed to apply for a student loan and if you have to make sure that you go through with the Subsidized loan because those are the types of loans that do not build up with interest while you are enrolled at the school and if I remember correctly they do not start collecting until 6 months after you graduate or you drop out. I am also part of a Work Study program and I absolutely love it because they usually would work with your class schedule and it is wonderful work experience. If you have any questions regarding starting school you are more than welcome to PM me I would do my best to answer your questions and smart ideas to save money while you are going. I pray that you don't allow money to stop you from doing something great with your life.

Thank you, cmarieh. :) I've been given a lot to think about, and will definitely have to be given time to process!! I'll see where God leads me, and He might be leading me down this path! And if that's the case, then I'll do my best to follow His path even when it's not exactly what I wanted to do.

You are welcome, my dear. You are so young and I urge you to pray about it and keep doing it until God gives you and answer. For God is always Faithful
