False, you cannot understand the greatest commandment and great commandment without reading and understanding the whole picture. If the good deeds of people can bring a sinful person to God, then the death of Jesus Christ was not necessary at all. What you were concluding is in contrary to the Gospel that Jesus taught and brought. Of course I will say no.
Let me give you an example: If you have a blind and deaf friend (whom you love), and he/she is going to cross a street which intersects with railway, and a train is coming, but this man is not aware of it. What would you do, if you love him/her? Will you just be still and do nothing or you will scream and stop him/her from crossing?
It all goes back to the heinous nature of sin and the Holy and Just nature of God. All men sins and accordingly God will judge each and every one of them for their sin. All have sinned and fallen short of the Glory of God.
Christianity is not a secular belief as the present world defines secular, sorry to say. When Jesus claims He is the only Way, and No one comes to God except through him, He is not joking and I bet many present day people will not classify that statement as secular.
God is the one who saves, not men. I was just trying to share what I know, from the Word of God. With or without me, by His Will, he will also save you and him, like He has done ever.
