I have seen a lot of post lately that would suggest that some believe God wants believers to be poor and sick....Now I know some are trying to counter what they believe is false teaching, but you cant throw away the blessings and promises of God, just because you believe someone is misusing the truth.

"The blessing of the Lord maketh rich and adds no sorrow".... Its absolute biblical truth that can be defended point by point.

"by His stripes, we are healed" ..is absolute biblical truth that can be defended point by point.

Now if anyone wants to be sick and poor, I will pray for you :)

If anyone wants to discuss these issue in a godly and respectful way? I will be glad to have that discussion :)

(about to go to work) so it might be later

There are several ways that God uses adversity in believers' lives:

1) chastening us when we persist in a sin or sins.

2) In order that the way we respond to adversity in faith may be used to lead a friend or loved one to Jesus.

3) in order to pave the way for a greater blessing.

In addition, some adversity may be a consequence of free will that God is willing to temporarily accept in order that love might be possible.

Yes, God is very able to use our distresses and ailments for His good, but He is not the orchestrator of our ailments.

I have often thought that good is the absence of bad. So therefore, God cannot do(in this case, orchestrate) bad in any shape, way or form since He is forever good. To do bad is literally out of His capabilities. God may be able to do the impossible but He can't against go His own nature.

Some more Scriptures from Paul at the end of his life.

"7 But we have this treasure in jars of clay, to show that the surpassing power belongs to God and not to us. 8 We are afflicted in every way, but not crushed; perplexed, but not driven to despair;9 persecuted, but not forsaken; struck down, but not destroyed; 10 always carrying in the body the death of Jesus, so that the life of Jesus may also be manifested in our bodies. 11 For we who live are always being given over to death for Jesus' sake, so that the life of Jesus also may be manifested in our mortal flesh. 12 So death is at work in us, but life in you." 2 Cor. 4:-12

"
16 So we do not lose heart. Though our outer self is wasting away, our inner self is being renewed day by day. 17 For this light momentary affliction is preparing for us an eternal weight of glory beyond all comparison, 18 as we look not to the things that are seen but to the things that are unseen. For the things that are seen are transient, but the things that are unseen are eternal." 2 Cor. 4:16-18

Afflicted in every way. Paul went through the mill. He was sick, he was beaten, shipwrecked etc etc. HIs outer body was "wasting away" while his inner self was being renewed.

Rather than claiming God's healing and/or blessing, instead he looks to eternity. That is the reality of the Bible. This life is for spreading the gospel, and preparing ourselves for eternity.

Woe to those teachers who do not deal with the truth of these verses!

If you want to condemn healing, do so after listening to a Bible message without youtube sound bites or other peoples opinions about what healing means. My personal challenge to those who disagree with healing for today. God bless you.

hi ladylynn, its not so much anyone disagreeing with healing, its more a case of seeing those who are disabled in some way, somehow lack faith, whereas we both know i'm sure some great christian who are physically or mentally dis-advantaged. I myself have had life changing healing from god, but i dont think it makes me a more faithful christian than those who havent.

Paul was no more sick than anyone else, and he knew just how to take hold of his healing and did so. He suffered much hardship, however, as the enemy of God sought to destroy him. His life was not marked by sickness or disease, but his thorn in the flesh was persecution sent by Satan.

God wants us to believe and walk in the truth of His Word, which is true holiness and there is no other.

Isa 58:6 Is not this the fast that I have chosen? to loose the bands of wickedness, to undo the heavy burdens, and to let the oppressed go free, and that ye break every yoke?
7 Is it not to deal thy bread to the hungry, and that thou bring the poor that are cast out to thy house? when thou seest the naked, that thou cover him; and that thou hide not thyself from thine own flesh?
8 ¶ Then shall thy light break forth as the morning, and thine health shall spring forth speedily: and thy righteousness shall go before thee; the glory of the LORD shall be thy rereward.
9 Then shalt thou call, and the LORD shall answer; thou shalt cry, and he shall say, Here I am. If thou take away from the midst of thee the yoke, the putting forth of the finger, and speaking vanity;
10 And if thou draw out thy soul to the hungry, and satisfy the afflicted soul; then shall thy light rise in obscurity, and thy darkness be as the noonday:
11 And the LORD shall guide thee continually, and satisfy thy soul in drought, and make fat thy bones: and thou shalt be like a watered garden, and like a spring of water, whose waters fail not.

I don't listen to youtube preachers or TV evangelists. I NEVER have! Instead, I have been reading the Bible cover to cover for 35 years, in multiple languages including Greek for the NT and Hebrew for the OT. I also went to Seminary for 7 years, where I studied the Bible in depth, and came to a deep understanding of his Word, and a continuing Spirit filled relationship with God.

I have learned that God sometimes heals, when it is his will. I do not deny that. I have also learned that there are many cases where people do not get healed, including Paul. And everyone dies. If we are lucky, we die of old age, which means we get sick from various diseases of old age, just like Kenneth Hagin got taken by heart disease.

I posted this in another thread, but I will post it again. A close friend of mine gave me Kenyon's and Kenneth Copeland's books to read in the 1980's Then she got ordained by Copeland Ministries in the 1990s. She started a Philippino church, and led many to the Lord. She had the gift of evangelism. But she had that gift BEFORE she got pulled into the WoF movement.

But when I got sick with Rheumatoid Arthritis, she judged and condemned me for not being healed. I was very upset by her condemnation, and it was one of the things (among others) that drove me away from God during those difficult early years with RA. About 5 years later, I got a phone call from her, telling me she had breast cancer. She decided not to get treatment, saying she believed in healing, and felt the assurance she was going to be healed. She and her church and family prayed and believed. they claimed every promise of God. She was even preparing to go on a mission trip for a year to Malaysia which her doctor advised against, especially in light of her cancer, and that she had refused treatment.

She died 10 months later when the cancer metastasized and went into her brain and drove her insane and destroyed the rest of her body.

That is why I have such distain for the Word Faith movement and all the claptrap that goes along with it. Now, I know the Bible well, and I see that suffering is part of our walk with God, and it shapes, molds and transforms us into the image of Christ. It develops character, being in the furnace of affliction. To see only blessings and health and wealth is to turn from the WHOLE counsel of God.

We will not be perfect in our bodies till the resurrection. That is the Biblical message. I know God is in control, health and sickness, blessing and sufferings. I know that my Redeemer lives! (Job 19:25)

Hello prodigal., yes, its those hard questions we all ask and have no simple answer for so we accept that there is no healing for today. I put this link up for the very question you just asked here, people who are disabled or dis-advantaged., or who have been healed of some illness or problem like you and I have been healed. I have not said at anytime that it is a lack of faith prodigal, or that someone is more or less faithful than another. The link I posted addresses that very accusation about healing. Please take a look at it Prodigal. Blessings.

It is always God's will to heal! When you do not believe that, then you are stuck. BTW, Paul wasn't NOT healed, and when he did get sick as people often do, he had the surefire promise of healing.

Angela your experience is one of many reasons we left the WOF movement. That kind of condemnation runs unchecked and is foolishness at best, a work of the devil at worst.

Is God's WILL for you and what he ALLOWS in your life the same thing?

Think about that awhile before answering. It is not a trap, a condemnation, a swipe at you or anything else.

This question and it's answer are found numerous places in the Bible

The answer to the title of this thread is quite simple. What did God want the Israelites to choose? Life. Right? Not death, not curses. He wanted them to walk in health and well being. He wanted to prosper them. Again, He wanted them to choose life! So, let me ask you. If in the OT God wanted the choice to be life, what makes you think He now prefers death, sickness, disease, and suffering? What does the word say about Jesus dying (and eventually resurrecting) and wanting for us? Life, and life abundant.

The question itself, "Does God want us poor and sick?", needs to be looked at from the perspective that He presents Himself. As Father. What good father wants his child sick and poor? What father with the means of healing his child or curing whatever oppresses his son or daughter, would withhold such medicine? Is not God love? You may say, "We cannot compare our morality with Gods and paint God bad if indeed He did do these things, for then we would be playing God." You're right. But Jesus compared the Lord to that of a father. When he spoke of giving gifts and not giving them a stone when asking for bread. So you see, knowing that a man sees suffering and his heart yearns to lift it, how much more our heavenly Father who is Love? Do you think Father God smiles down upon your sickness, or do you think He is just waiting for you to go to Him? We try every source, but why not God? Is He the last resort? Have we forgotten who we belong to, and what has been purchased by His Son's blood?

Come on people! Children of God wake up, and see Father God for who He is! I write this having been cured of the incurable, an autoimmune disease. I write this having yet another disease in need of healing, and His response was, "I've got you." We have hope of healing, but we need to go to the source. You may say that you've tried or you may feel you don't have enough faith. but don't rely upon your faith. Rely upon HIS! He is faithful. He is true to His word. He is true to the promises He has made to you. Do you feel your faith stirring now? Do you feel that he is able? Its because He is able. He is willing. Your faith is stirring because when you look to him and not yourself, you see that with Him all things are possible. He is Creator God, He created you, all the matter and energy that you are comes from Him. Whats a scar that cannot be erased, to the One that made skin from the dust of the earth? Whatever your issue, go to Him. Pray. "Lord if I have not the faith, then by your mercy." God is love...

Scriptures, please!

and under his wings you will find refuge; his faithfulness is a shield and buckler. 5 You will not fear the terror of the night, nor the arrow that flies by day, 6 nor the pestilence that stalks in darkness,
nor the destruction that wastes at noonday. 7 A thousand may fall at your side, ten thousand at your right hand, but it will not come near you. 8 You will only look with your eyes and see the recompense of the wicked. 9 Because you have made the Lord your dwelling place— the Most High, who is my refuge— 10 no evil shall be allowed to befall you, no plague come near your tent. 11 For he will command his angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways. 12 On their hands they will bear you up, lest you strike your foot against a stone. 13 You will tread on the lion and the adder;
the young lion and the serpent you will trample underfoot. 14 “Because he holds fast to me in love, I will deliver him; I will protect him, because he knows my name. 15 When he calls to me, I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble; I will rescue him and honor him. 16 With long life I will satisfy him and show him my salvation.”

14 For God speaks in one way, and in two, though man does not perceive it. 15 In a dream, in a vision of the night, when deep sleep falls on men, while they slumber on their beds, 16 then he opens the ears of men and terrifies them with warnings, 17 that he may turn man aside from his deed
and conceal pride from a man; 18 he keeps back his soul from the pit, his life from perishing by the sword. 19 “Man is also rebuked with pain on his bed and with continual strife in his bones, 20 so that his life loathes bread, and his appetite the choicest food. 21 His flesh is so wasted away that it cannot be seen, and his bones that were not seen stick out. 22 His soul draws near the pit, and his life to those who bring death. 23 If there be for him an angel, a mediator, one of the thousand,
to declare to man what is right for him, 24 and he is merciful to him, and says, ‘Deliver him from going down into the pit; I have found a ransom; 25 let his flesh become fresh with youth; let him return to the days of his youthful vigor’; 26 then man prays to God, and he accepts him; he sees his face with a shout of joy, and he restores to man his righteousness. 27 He sings before men and says:
‘I sinned and perverted what was right, and it was not repaid to me. 28 He has redeemed my soul from going down into the pit, and my life shall look upon the light.’ 29 “Behold, God does all these things, twice, three times, with a man, 30 to bring back his soul from the pit, that he may be lighted with the light of life.
