I am specifically talking about being a financial coordinator to my fulltime job.

And, it's called being wise in my finances, and retirement is not the only one I'm budgeting for ;) My brother is doing the same thing and he's just a year older than me.

At least I won't be crying when I'm 60 and still having to work a fulltime job. -shrugs-

Or, people are going to make jokes and poke fun in a loving way? Something that you are known to do, as well. Nothing wrong with planning for retirement. Doesn't mean every single 20 something year old needs to open one up. You can still save money by not having billions of accounts. Life isn't the same for everyone. It took 11 months for me to get a job after graduating college. Once I did get a job, I had to pay off the couple grand I still owed my school. Was able to do that in August. Two months later, I'm getting ready for grad school... So yes. I don't have a retirement fund. But kinda hard to do such thing when you don't have a job for nearly a year and once you get one, you pay the debts you still owe. And then once you do that you carry on your education, since you didn't go to school to make 10 dollars an hour as Porter... So again. Life isn't the same for everyone, and no need to take offense when someone was just joking with you. Can't help what other people say, as it's kinda hard to know what each person says.

Sigh. Where is this coming from? I'm not saying any of that.

I'm still saving my money regardless of what people say. This is wisdom and I know everyone means well, but am shocked that I am getting advice not to save money. People just don't listen and put words in my mouth that I'm not even saying.

I am saving money. I am saving for retirement. I am saving for a house. I am saving for college. And no one is going to tell me otherwise.

I have an emergency fund, I have groceries, I have all these things and life is going well. When something does go bad, I have money saved up to fall back on.

It's wisdom and I'm done discussing my finances on here.

-shrugs-
Yikes, Shiney. I didn't tell you not to save, dearheart. I was just responding to your comment:
"At least I won't be crying when I'm 60 and still having to work a full time job."

Then you ended it with: -shrugs- #HatersGonnaHate

I think of the many CC members here who are around the age of 60 who are suffering serious situations in their lives; physical problems, loneliness & depression, death of their loved ones, family members suffering, etc. I don't believe that any of these people planned for these things to happen, and yet they happened anyway.

I'm sorry if you thought I was trying to discourage you from saving your money. That is not true. In fact, I just sent my children this quote yesterday:

"The best way to double your money is to fold it in half and stick it back into your pocket." ;)

So you see dear, I'm all for being wise in your finances. It's also wise to know that money can't guarantee peace.

I know your post wasn't directed towards me, but I wanted to say that each of us definitely goes through unplanned suffering/challenges/difficulties in our own way. I had several setbacks myself. And I always tell my parents, "If you would have known..." (what they were getting into when they adopted me...)

But one of the reasons they became so careful is because life's tragedies (as you mentioned Violet, death, surgeries, job losses, health problems for various members of the family...) made them cautious. And I agree with jsr as well, everyone's story is different and we all adapt in slightly different ways.

Thanks for sharing the "witicism" at the end ("The best way to double your money"...) I'm going to have to "tuck that one away" and remember it for later! :)

No worries, Melita.

Ever have one of those days when you feel like you're on the wrong planet? It's kind of been like for me at work the entire week. ;)

Aren't we all in the wrong place, though? Cause Earth certainly isn't my home.

*seoulsearch pops in to help derail her own thread for just a minute*

Shine, I can totally relate. My parents have trained me to think about financial planning and responsibility since I could walk.

If I got $20 for my birthday, 10% went to church and then and then half went to the bank. Yeah, I hated it at the time. But they taught me that it's often about simple choices that take a little more work but are worth it in the long run. I try to pack my lunches and make my own iced coffee instead of spending $20 a day on food (a lot of people I know spend at least this and more every day on Starbucks or a Red Bull or both and then some kind of takeout lunch.)

I'm shooting for retirement at 55 (it sneaks up kinda fast, huh... I remember people making fun of me in my 20's because of some of my financial choices.) I might not make it exactly on time (65 is my back-up plan :p), and life will probably throw in a few speed bumps along the way, but... things such as being at the car dealership last week and learning I needed something done for $160... and being able to have it done right then and there (because it's an hour drive) without worry because I have an emergency fund just for these types of things... makes it all more than worth it.

I also have a brother who lived at home with my parents for several years after high school... worked 2 full-time jobs, saved everything he could... and bought his first house, at age 26. In cash. (I wonder how many girls called him a loser for living with his parents during that time...)

Haters only hate because they don't have anyone to teach them how to do the same thing (or have the discipline to do it.)

Shine... It's so cool to meet someone else who thinks the same way!! :) (We could get together and talk financial strategies... with homemade--to save money, of course :)-- tea! :D)
Count me in. In the same way, my parents trained my siblings and I to save. The moment we started schooling and getting our allowance, we bought our own toys :) So we had to learn to budget since we were like 6 and buy toys every month. On special occasions, then, parents bought us better toys. I'm thankful they did that. Cause tithing and offering didn't become a problem for us siblings when we started working. I know for a fact, that newer Christians find it challenging.

I became reckless with my finances though when I fell in love (and when I was addicted to video games for a total of 10 months) lel and now I'm suffering the consequences. Sortof broke right now. But I found my piggy bank and counted my coins and I found almost $200 in there (which I budgeted for my entire month's food expenses and I thanked God for the provision that comes from everywhere lol). I do have savings in bank but piggy banks I can't live without even if I try lol.

Financial management is good stewardship :)

I'm all for saving money as much as I am for giving them away though. I think (and this is just my own thinking lol), I've grown in that area of my walk in life. I budget so money doesn't go to waste, but when there's an opportunity to give, I sincerely think, that's the greatest investment. Cause I know some people also get so deep into saving that they miss the chance to bless others, forgetting that provision comes from God. I mean, I met people like this and they consider my giving as weakness lol. It's wisdom to do both in proper balance.

So I heard there's water in Mars. I wonder what humanity's next course of action gonna be. It'd be amusing to watch them from heaven when we get there. Lol.

The question doesn't make sense to me.

It should read: How Long Have You been Paroled? :D

True that. We're in the world but not of the world. But it's safe to say God put us here for a reason. Right? Evidently God delighted in doing so. He did say He created us for His own pleasure. So, how might I bring God pleasure? The best way I can think of is to love Him with all my heart. And yet, I don't believe that's why I'm here. I think I'm here so God can love me with all His Being. That's so phenomenally amazing that I can hardly wrap my brains around it. The Lord is so awesome. ♥
