figured if I ever somehow managed to have kids (which is unlikely) id rather have girls. I tend to deal with girls better then I do boys.

I'm surprised there's people saying that they'd rather have girls than boys. I usually hear the opposite.

Anyway, it wouldn't matter the gender for me since it's a 50/50 chance anyway. I don't think it's fair if the child does find out in some way that they were wanted as the opposite of their gender. Though if I ever happen to have a girl, I'd hope to God that they would be nothing like how I am.

A long time ago, in a thread far, far away... Er... Sorry. Got confused with the "Star Wars trailer" thread for a minute...

I always went back and forth with the thought of having kids. I was considered "very weird" at my Christian high school when I went through my "not going to have any" phases. And because I'm adopted, when I did want kids, I used to think about possibly having 4--2 by birth and 2 by adoption. Like Bruce, I thought twins would be cool and at one point, wanted 2 sets of twins.

At around 37, I realized I didn't absolutely HAVE to have kids (seeing as I had not even a potential date in sight), and that was VERY freeing. I had a bit of a mourning period in realizing I'd never have a biological relative, but I know it's going to be ok. I have NO intention of starting a family in my mid-40's... That's great for other people (especially Hollywood, apparently), but not me.

Personally, I think anyone who wants kids should take a crash course in child raising by volunteering to take someone's kids for a couple days and nights every week for at least 6 months and paying for all their needs on the days you have them. (I know many here are probably doing that with younger siblings or relatives and I have nothing but admiration for them.)

My last relationship ended when I was 29, and for 3 years I was a part-time single parent to a 4-year-old and 18-month old. I got a very good taste of what it's like to be a parent during that time. The mother had passed away long before I was ever in the picture, and the father was incapacitated most of the time, so I'd get calls from the daycare saying they needed to be picked up because their dad had failed to do so, etc. When the youngest was 3 years old, he still wasn't talking or potty-trained (and the older one was only partially trained) so I worked with them on that a lot, even though I had no clue as to what I was doing.

Their dad used to drop them off at my house a lot, so on the nights they stayed with me, I used to set an alarm twice a night and wake them up to go potty (I had no idea what else to do.) I took them to church alone, and tried my best to make sure they had Christmases, birthdays, etc., because their father was incapable of doing most any of that. I remember when the littlest one started saying his first words (with his big brother helping me coach him) and what an triumph that felt like.

But I also remember crying myself to sleep nearly every night and feeling like an utter failure, because I was angry at their father ALL the time.

One day, we were playing with Legos and the older child asked me, "Kim, why does God love us?" All my life, I'd been asking my parents and teachers the hard questions, so it was pretty interesting having it turned around!!! I tried to explain that the Lego things we were making were our creations... and that, in a much more complicated way, we are God's creations... But again. I was like, "Good grief, he's asking such a great question and I have no idea how to answer."

I couldn't even imagine what it must be like to raise kids through their teenage and young adult years. I'll tell you one thing, that experience left me with an IMMENSE amount of respect for parents, especially those who have to do it alone. I realized that nothing can really prepare you for parenthood except or actually having to take it on.

Oh man, I'm totally with you on this one, Sky.

The greatest thing about having little kids around is the excuse to buy the coolest toys!!! I am a parents' worst nightmare, as I am automatically attracted to playsets with a bajillion little pieces and those that make the loudest, most realistic noises ever (can you tell I've mostly shopped for little boys...)

I remember this ultracool pirate ship the boys used to play with--it had lots of working parts, such as a sliding plank for captives to walk, trap doors that opened and closed, and working grates above the sections that were meant to hold prisoners (such as Batman and Spiderman, of course!)

AAAAHHHRRRR, Matey!! :D

I know that God controls this but it's still fun to think about. If you want kids or have thought about them for your future, how many do you want? What genders? Or does it not matter to you?

My friend and I were talking about this today and she said she wants one child, a boy. I think I want two or three at the most. I've actually always imagined myself with two boys and one girl. I don't know why, but I have haha.

I think now that I'm 26 (my profile is wrong) I'm getting baby fever lol Oh my!

Now if only storks could bring husbands too! :p

I have exactly what you want! had my boys first then my girl now im done :)

Lol I love you Kim! You have such a beautiful spirit!
And you are petite too...which means you could jump right in the activities with the tots.

Oh this tale should be in the 'Embarassing Story' thread...lol but ah well...I'm here lol

When my daughter was 6. I was field trip mom and we went to the fire house at her school.
Well...here comes the amusement :p

We were all sitting on the floor (the children and I)...
Of a tiny model house....for safety training purposes.

I bet that sample house was 20 by 20 feet if that lol super small!

So the friendly neighborhood fireman says....

* Oh btw...remember I am 6 foot tall lol

So he says..." Miss....why don't you demonstrate 'Stop...drop and roll for the children."

Bahaha....I looked at him and thought

"If I stop drop and roll...in this tiny facility...there will be some walls crumbling down"
You know what I am sayin'? Lol

Luckily...I suggested

"Little Bobby here wants too..."

Shweeeet save! haha

I have been blessed with 2 and care for no more. I was told I would never have any, clearly God had different plans. I won't lie and say being a solo parent is easy, however I cannot imagine my life without my children. . Read some do not want children and find it hard to date. I am unsure why. Many in my family do not want and have not had children. Some are married and some still single. There are many people who do not want children. So I say to them do not give up hope there isn't a godly match for you. As to those who want and haven't met their spouse. No worries, you have many years ahead of you. Tonight at the bb game I met a pregnant mother, older then me pregnant with her first. God has a plan for all of you! Trust and pray diligently!

Lol.....the hormonal equivelant does not = the same exact mentality on absolutely everything. Our bodies produce the extremes of hormonal intensities at different ages. It's just the nature of the differences between genders. The most notable difference is, women get an extra 20ish years of wisdom to battle the onslaught with.

Guys deal with the extremes younger when they have less wisdom and life experience :p. Which is why we are all pretty much retarded at about 16-20 and enjoy blowing things up and watching American Pie. As logical creatures as men generally seem to be when they mature, there is no logic at the peak of hormonal activity, i can confirm this personally. Lol. It is not fair to expect women to act logically either when it is due time for their hormones to be out of whack and this biological clock we speak of is ticking like an armed warhead. Men have no biological clock.
Yeah I know, that's just me being snarky...as per usual. I deal with the terror of my ticking time bomb of a uterus with copious amounts of sarcasm. But for reals, I am not looking forward to wanting a baby...because I don't know what will have to change in my brain and hormones for that to be the case.

Also, fun story...when I was about 4 or 5 my mom told me that I wanted 8 kids. I imagine I thought of babies as very similar to dolls, you could have fun with them...but when you got bored or needed a juice box break...into the toy chest they went...

If I ever had a child, and it was a boy, I would name him Gaylord Weegee Elmo Blanket Smothermunchie II.

Clearly I'm still not ready yet. :(

If you do this, make sure you start taking ninjitsu classes the day he is born. Because when that kid turns 16.....you got a fight coming your way and there is absolutely nothing you can do about it but prepare yourself :p.

I have a boy and a girl, the boy is older, 10, daughter is 9. I never really cared about gender, just wanted kids. It's cool to have one of each, they are different, yet a lot alike. I know they're trying very hard to remove gender based things, but I still hear, that's for girl's, that's for boy's, coming out of children's mouth's. I also work at a pre school, so I hear it there to, and unless they hear it at home I've never said anything about a boy who might want to play with the doll house or a girl that likes to play with trucks.

At home it's not a big deal, except my son will only be the boy ponies if he play's my little ponies with my Daughter.

Make sure, that the person you will be/are in a relationship with. Is emotionally capable of caring for children. Because, If you want them and they can't handle it emotionally. You will be all alone. Even in the relationship. I believed too much in my (ex)wife. It haunts me to this day. Since it was supposed to be a Christian marriage.

I have thought about having kids one day, I have thought of how I would raise them what I would teach them and what genders I would I want ect. I grew up seeing what not to do as a parent so I learned how to be a good parent because I never had a good one, I have seen how favoritism is common within the parents and the children and have seen the damage that can do, I have seen how kids become without structure and discipline without rules and without responsibilities I have seen how many parents don't even know their own children and much more.

One day I would love to have children I don't know or really care about the number of them as long as I am smart enough to be financially able to take care of them, I would love to have a girl but also a boy however they won't be from my seed way to many medical issues run through the family and I remember me as a kid I honestly cannot handle that

I have mixed feelings about kids... I have days where I see myself roaming the earth as a hobo blogger backpacking the earth, and days where I see myself with at least 3-4 kids. I'm permitting myself to be cynical about kids and look at all the possible downsides to buffer myself against the pending "baby fever" that all of my 24-27 year old friends are suffering from at the moment xD
