Hey everyone!!!

A regular CC user has been posting beautiful animated Christmas scenes with gently falling snow that are making me homesick.

I grew up in the north, and every year, I would eagerly await (and hope for snow) the week of Christmas. For some reason, it just didn't seem like Christmas when everything was still green. During my childhood, we had some snow storms that shut everything down for a week, so snow always reminds me to thank God for shelter and warmth.

The most vivid Christmas memory I have is that my childhood church put out a life-sized nativity scene every year, and as a kid, I always felt anxious and worried if I saw the Baby Jesus covered in snow. Yeah, I knew it was only a statue but I always had the urge to run over, brush off all the snow, and wrap Him in more blankets...

One year, it was snowing cats and dogs and our church replaced its usual nativity with a nightly Live Nativity scene instead (with a plastic doll as the Baby Jesus). I remember feeling sorry for all the actors, who must have been absolutely freezing.

Even in my home state, there were many Christmases without snow. Someday, I would love to be able to fly to a different place every year that has snow--and even get snowed in for a week--at Christmas.

What about you?

How do you like your Christmases?

Does it still seem like Christmas if you're looking at palm trees or mowing your lawn?

(As always, I'd love to hear your thoughts, but will also be posting a poll, just for the fun of it. :))

I prefer a white Christmas. My city always receives its first snowfall in the week before Christmas. It is always a happy week for me because I love snowfall!

I actually don't like snow.. or cold weather :S and considering it's still getting to 70 here, I don't think a white Xmas is going to happen lol. I guess Christmas is Christmas to me, but I won't complain if it's warm and sunny. :)

My dog is not fond of snow. I'm impartial - I could have it or leave it.

But I am reminded of an old Hinsons song...

"I'm dreaming of a White Christmas
*sounds of thunder and rain*
:chuckle: Well, maybe next year

It don't matter if it rains all day on Christmas
If the tree looks scrawny or the lights don't blink at all
Let it rain, let it STORM, let it come what may, it's Christmas
And with the family all here, we're laughing and having a ball

Family singing carols round the fireplace, it's Christmas
And it don't matter if Grandpa sings off key
Cause the harmony's felt this time of year, it's Christmas
And with the family all here it sure sounds like a choir to me!"

In Florida if I woke to a White CHRISTmas I'd think I was back in Michigan and worry how much I would have to shovel! HAHAHA Seriously most CHRISTmas Days we hit the beach and I am happy with the white sand being my white CHRISTmas.

I grew up with white Christmases or at least winter ones. So after 3 years of tropical Christmases I'm very ready to have a white Christmas. Though in deference to weather and transport and all as long as it snows sometime within a week of Christmas I think I could be satisfied. We had a good snow about a week before thanksgiving that melted pretty quick so I'm hopeful for a Christmas snow.

I love and prefer white Christmases....but alas I live in Florida so it would almost be a miracle to have one here...but I have purposely gone north at Christmas just to have the snow. Love it as long as I am visiting and then can get on the plane and leave it behind....

We don't get any snow in our immediate area (I'd have to travel about an hour to see any). It would be the cat's pajamas to get a cabin somewhere where there's mild snowfall! Oh well.

I grew up in Michigan. 17 years in Detroit and 11 years in Lansing. Many white Christmas's there. Where in Florida are you? We live in Clearwater. I like the white sand idea for Christmas.

I grew up in the South like the South of Texas...so not only Texas but the bottom of Texas...practically Mexico lol! So to me Christmas has always been hot, with palm trees (the Rio Grande Valley has tons of them), and greenery. What makes Christmas for me, I suppose, are the decorations. A tree with lights and ornaments is what reminds me most of Christmas. Without that, it sure don't feel like Christmas. Also we usually have a small nativity scene that my mom sets up.

That being said, I would always wish and pray for snow. I honestly thought that snow felt soft and smooth...kinda like ice cream because that's the way they depict it in cartoons. I finally saw snow when I was 19 years old in 2009. It was a cold winter that year and I was in Dallas at that time. It snowed on Christmas and it kept on till after New Years.

I built my first snow man and had my first snow ball fight with my brother and cousins. It was awesome! But I did feel a little disappointed with the snow...just because it wasn't the texture I thought it was. It's difficult to build snowmen, it's very stiff, and it feels more like shaved ice than ice cream. No, I didn't want to eat it lol! :p But I guess I just imagined snow to be a magical thing that felt beautifully: soft and almost cotton like and it wasn't.

so funny one group is like its graupel or hail

another group compromised and said snow like hail such as the news report

and another group said its definitely snow

I live in the metro Phoenix area so I have no way of having a white Christmas here, but maybe I can go to an area that has snow...
