Yea... I had rather have folks that can read and write English ... These poor kids in the cities cant even read or write and some progressive wants to waste effort to impose Spanish on folks...don't make sense to me?

I agree that we should educate students a little better in English and I don't think it should be required to take Spanish. However, I do see huge benefits to learning the language, just like Willie says.

It's kinda like saying what's the point in learning European History? Or African History? Yes, we live in the USA but it also benefits the student to learn other parts of history, not just their own country's. I feel that Spanish is actually even more beneficial because we actually get to use the skill in a job.

Whether we like it or not (I think we need to secure our borders...but it doesn't look like that's happening), immigrants are coming into the USA in large numbers. To be ready for the competitive job market, it really helps to know Spanish.

Yes indeed. People In Jesus' time all knew at least three languages because of the close proximity of other countries. Most Europeans know multiple languages for the same reason. And America is "shrinking" in that respect, also. It is pretty unrealistic to think our children and grand children will remain at all competitive (if they actually are now) without knowing at least two languages.

Nope it don't... what benefit is it to a inner city kid to be able to say hello in Spanish, when he cant read or write English?

well you can start now
After the stroke, it is all I can do to even maintain 30% of the Spanish I used to know, and maybe 15% of the German. I gave up on trying to remember Korean; I probably have a working vocabulary of only 70 or 80 words in that language anymore. I think fanaticizing about learning Russian at this point is a pipe dream.

These days, they have to at least be able to communicate with the gangs to keep themselves alive.

Truthfully, if a person wants to speak their own native language (in most of our cases, English) well, they will.

You cannot prosper (or its very hard) for anyone to prosper in America and in much of the world now without speaking English ..its the language of world commerce and business ... Its not helpful to promote Spanish to those that need English to have better lives.

When to use Don't or Doesn't isn't readily understood by a large number of people. :) I laughed at your comment. So rest easy, it didn't fly over all our heads. :)

My opinion....
That's like a commercial that would ask your donations for less important charities.....
It's like.....ok sure. I will donate to save a whale or what not....the day no child is ever starving

Btw folks....lol
Please forgive my opinion if someone disagrees
I just feel like society and yes our government puts most important issues on the back burner
Just like in my area
Tax payers paid 10 million bux over the years
Just to 'plan' the building of a bridge
It's ridiculous sometimes

Anyway God bless all :)

Who is "they" ? And why are "they" trying to force folks to learn Spanish? When so many cant even read or write ..they waste time with this kind of stuff?
So... are you under the impression that in these schools where Spanish is one of the subjects, English isn't another one?
