Then who's the leader of that marriage? The woman or the man? And who's doing the wooing here? Is it not Christ who draws us (the church) in, steals our hearts, leads us and guides us, sacrifices all for us? And... isn't the marriage of Christ and the church supposed to be the model by which we are to be married on earth? I'm not expecting my future spouse to be Christ. He will be far from perfect, just as I am far from perfect. But the roles we are meant to play... sorry. I'm the bride. Not the groom. A proverbs 31 woman is whom I aim to be, and the woman you described is FAR from that model.

And far it be from me to steal a man's moment in proposing. Mind as well steal his man card for eternity.
do you realize that you did not make any point in your reply. you asked me how can a woman make an effort to find a Christian husband and i gave you my advice.but what is the relevance of you saying "Is it not Christ who draws us (the church) in, steals our hearts, leads us and guides us, sacrifices all for us? And... isn't the marriage of Christ and the church supposed to be the model by which we are to be married on earth? I'm not expecting my future spouse to be Christ. He will be far from perfect, just as I am far from perfect"
what were you trying to imply by saying that? if you feel too proud to make an effort to find a man then just come out and say so instead of quoting how Jesus draws our hearts together in order to justify your personal belief. You said that a proverbs 31 woman is whom you are to be, did the bible say that the proverbs 31 woman should not make an effort to find a husband? so whats the relevance of that statement with this post? making an effort to find a christian husband does not stop you from being a proverbs 31 woman and you know that. also, you or your future husband being imperfect does not stop you from making an effort to find a Christian husband and you know that. the woman i described is the mature and intelligent woman who also has the attributes of the proverbs 31 woman, so what are you talking about? you believe that not allowing the man to be the one that proposes steals his"man card", i am a man and do you think i care if a woman proposes to me? i will not care at all if she proposes and i will say yes to her if that is what i want. i don't see her proposing as stealing a so called man card, that's for non Christians, true Christians don't care about such worldly things like who gets to propose. .but having said that you can choose to let the man do all the work to find you and you can just sit there and wait to be found, i am only advising you not to do so.

God likes to get us out of our comfort zones. If a woman has been in the habit of chasing men, don't be surprised if God tells her to just sit down, shut up, and bide her time.

If a woman has been in the habit of sitting down, shutting up, and bidding her time, don't be surprised if God gives her a nudge to move her butt when the timing is right.

The same goes for men too, in many ways.

The moral of the story is, God does what He wants and He doesn't need your "helpful" input, although He does want you to pay attention and participate. There are lots of very wrong ways to go about finding "thuh wun," and no cookie-cutter, one-size-fits-all correct one, either. God moves in mysterious ways and He can put two people together in as many varied ways as there are human circumstances and personalities.

This thread sounds to me like it was put together by a man who is taking out his lady-related frustrations on this forum's female population... I personally have never even heard of this doctrine of which he so negatively speaks, but upon thinking about it, it doesn't sound like a bad idea actually. The idea that he's suggesting throwing the idea of God's leading and caution to the wind and hunting down a potential male spouse like some kind of bizarre reverse whitetail rut is... remarkably bad advice. I have yet to see such a scenario conclude on a positive note.

There's no Biblical example of a woman proposing to a man. It's not a wordly thing. God invented marriage. The most a woman did was Ruth, she showed she was interested, but he had to do the rest. If you see that as a propopal, well okay then. She got that advice in that specific case. It doesn't mean I have to throw myself before every guy I like a bit.

No I agree that you shouldn't just sit there and say nothing and expect a man to do everything. Of course you can initiate a conversation. You can even tell him you like him, but next time maybe I'll pray harder if this is really the right one. On the other hand who cares if he doesn't like you back and you made a mistake? A friendly guy says: oh no problem and just keeps being friendly and your brother has a good laugh. I even don't care if he responds arrogantly with: I don't know who to choose lol.
But you said proposing. That's asking a guy to marry you. I'm never gonna do that again. I did once and he expected me to be the mom and lead. Dutch guys in general don't step up to women. They want a bossy woman who leads them. A guy doing all the effort and as a woman you just sit back can be a good leader, but also very bossy. Because I want a man to lead but not be bossy, but more equality, I think you should both do effort and if you notice he's too shy you can help him out a bit, but not take over his role. Just like Ruth did.
Everyone uses their cellphone the whole day. It means nothing.

Btw if you want to know if a woman is interested, do effort and look at the hints. She'll find an excuse to talk to you and if you're just getting along and talking shell make a joke that she likes you and then walk away or do something weird so it will leave you puzzled. That way she can just say it was a joke if you don't like her back. There's other things. Ask the youtube experts. One guy who's a womanizer found it out and he is absolutely right. Not all will do that though I think. If they're very shy they'll just stare. It's best to ask God though because someone can like you back and still not be the one He has for you. Also you can just talk about it with a christian. Hey I have the idea you're the one. Well I think you're mistaken. Oh okay LOL I'll listen better next time. Oh no problem. Only if you go after an arrogant one they'll reject you and then: who cares? What I love about God is that He doesn't care at all if He gets rejected. Well He does but He will still say He loves everyone and wants to marry us.
I was in a service. From the podium, everyone was there, loud and clear: THE HOLY SPIRIT IS TOTALLY IN LOVE WITH YOU AND WANTS A RELATIONSHIP WITH YOU!!!
I loved it. Here, now that's Mr. Right. We can learn something from Him.

Clearly, if Jesus took wine, sour or otherwise, and drank it on the cross, we have a contradiction that would make Jesus out to be a liar. The Greek word used for "fruit of the vine" at the Last Supper and the Greek word used for "wine vinegar ("sour wine" in some English translations) is not the same Greek word. What Jesus tasted on the cross was water mixed with vinegar, a common drink among the Roman soldiers. This vinegar did not necessarily come from grapes; it could be made from figs, palms, fermented grain extract, etc. Therefore, Jesus did not lie, and the Greek language bears this out. However, the great majority of English Bible translations including such popular ones as the NIV, NASB, NKJV, and the Amplified have Jesus contradict Himself.

Being our resident jaded guy, I'll reply, Melita! :D If a guy insists the woman must be the one to make the approach, then there are usually some underlying insecurities. Or, there is a huge ego issue. I would agree with you, Melita, it takes two to tango here. How many women on here are introverts? Theres no way they are going to make the approach. So, if you insist the guy do it every time, both he and she will be lonely for a very long time. Lets just use common sense on this issue and stop throwing the bible under the bus! :D

No Contradiction
Matthew 26:29, "But I say unto you, I will not drink henceforth of this fruit of the vine, until that day when I drink it new with you in my Father's kingdom."
Matthew 27:48, "And straightway one of them ran, and took a spunge, and filled it with vinegar, and put it on a reed, and gave him to drink."
Contradiction
Matthew 26:29, " I tell you, I will not drink of this fruit of the vine from now on until that day when I drink it anew with you in my Father's kingdom."
Matthew 27:48, " Immediately one of them ran and got a sponge. He filled it with wine vinegar, put it on a stick, and offered it to Jesus to drink."

This is just too much.

I just realized a typo in this... "If you insist the GIRL do it every time,......"

I agree that a woman should tell a man that she likes him, that will count as making an effort. in regards to proposing, you cant just walk up to a man and say will you marry me. before you propose, you will have dated him for a while and have gotten to know him well so you will not be shy to propose to him.You said you want a man to lead you. What exactly do you mean by wanting a man to lead you? do you want man to lead you like the way Muslim men lead their wives in Iran or Saudi Arabia? may be you like that. the bible says that the man will rule over the woman but that rule is a democratic rule and not a dictatorship as the bible also says that a man should love his wife and a man that loves his wife will listen to her opinion and his rule of the home will be a democratic one. You said that Ruth saw that Boaz was shy and she helped him out.I guess you read that in the "coby" international version of the bible. Ruth placed herself in a place to be seen but like i have explained just placing yourself in place to be seen may not work and you still have to initiate conversations and make an effort on your own path to find a husband
Also, when those girls women I mentioned walked up beside me and started texting on their phone, they clearly wanted me to ask for their phone numbers. Don’t hate the player, hate the game...lol

pete13, i was just wondering... since you keep saying if a woman is interested, she should make an effort -

when you have been interested in a woman, how have you shown her you're interested? i agree the woman (actually both men and women) shouldn't just stay at home and wait for God to bring a spouse right to the front door. i totally understand that. but based on what i've read in your posts, you're putting all the fault in women. it makes me wonder what experiences you've had that led you to start this thread. tone gets lost in text, but the tones i get here are frustration and maybe a hint of bitterness. i apologize if this is wrong. i just want to understand :)
In the world today, which gender finds it more difficult to find a partner? Is it the man or the woman? of course it is the woman because a man can easily walk up to any woman and ask her out and as a matter of fact, i can ask you out right now in front of everybody on christianchat.com because i am mature but the woman has this shyness and the belief that a woman's heart should be so hidden in God that a man has to seek him just to find her as a result they don’t make as much effort as the man and consequently they may find it more difficult to find a partner. The reason I started this topic is because I hate to see the look of disappointment on the face of a 35 year plus Christian woman that has not found a husband yet and the look of disappointment on the face of a 35 year plus Christian female divorcee who did not have the maturity to find a Christian marriage that will not end up in divorce. So I am here to encourage women to be mature at an early age, to be strong, and to make an effort on their own path to find a husband

Biblical, the man is the head. Wives obey your husbands. If he obeys God and is not controlling and selfish that is no problem. I don't want a man to see me as his mom. Either a man wants to marry you and proposes or you can nag and beg because he doesn't want to. No thanks. I'm rather alone then with Mr. Right, Jesus.

So they wanted your phone number and you thought neeh.
If you have to walk after a man he doesn't like you.

Classic KJV Only inability to understand the vernacular of the times. Quick way to lose an audience there, kiddo!
Ohhh ok, I was wondering what Tintin's post was referring to. I didn't see anything in any of the OP's posts concerning KJV-onlyism. Unless I missed that................
