I had to catch up on laundry today because I was "running out of clothes." Odd thing is I have a closet full of clothes, and one and a half chest of drawers full of clothes. (The other half of the drawers is full of sheets and a few clothes that stay for sentimental reasons only.) But, I can't wear most of those clothes now because it's winter and those are my warmer weather clothes. Both kinds. My summer clothes and my spring/autumn clothes. And then there are the special-occasion clothes -- dresses, nice slacks, button-up shirts, jackets, vests, and things I just loved, but can't wear anymore.
When I worked, I needed more clothes. I represented the company, so I had to wear "office clothes." No less than enough blouses to last 8-10 days, and 3-4 mix-and-match trousers/pants/slacks. (Not even when I was young did I like dresses or skirts. lol) You just can't get caught wearing the same blouse twice in the same week, right?
Now I have three pairs of trousers, four sweatshirts for very cold days, three long sleeve T-shirts, and one button-up blouse. I don't usually need to have more than that because I usually don't leave the house but for 1-3 hours on any given day. (I will not wash a shirt if I only wore it for a couple of hours unless I sweated or got goop on it somehow.)
So, all this to ask, what is "enough clothes" for you? Do you think it has to do with culture, what we do for a living, or something about expressing ourselves by our clothing choices?
