It is. Otherwise I might be as gullible as you Guys and the Westboro Baptist bunch, making "doctrine" out of anything I found printed in that book.

I wasn't commenting on liberalism. I was commenting on the ridiculousness of lumping something that has some scriptural validity in with something that does not.

2 Peter 3:16 He writes the same way in all his letters, speaking in them of these matters. His letters contain some things that are hard to understand, which ignorant and unstable people distort, as they do the other Scriptures, to their own destruct

Peter believed that the things Paul wrote were scripture so if we get rid of Paul then we have to get rid of Peter too and pretty soon there will be no church left to be a part of.

Your teachers in school had it. Your bosses have it. Your pastor has it. God has it. Authority gives the listener the ease to trust the words being said and to do what is being said. No authority. No trust. Not to say you cannot trust even without authority, but you're supposed to figure out if the words are worthy of being trusted then.

That's the authority women do NOT have over men. Listen to us all you want, but then think for yourself to decide if you believe it. Authority means that trust was earned and the people listening ought to do what is being told.

And, if you have a pastor who was an electrical engineer two years ago, (don't laugh. I had him as a pastor), then there is no authority in him either. The trust is earned by background too. Authority is earned.

Check out the Bible stories for why women don't earn it -- Eve, Lot's wife, Sarah, Delilah -- we have a gender-specific flaw. (Not saying women only have this, nor that we all do this all the time, but we do have the lineage to prove the flaw.) We have the skill sets to talk a man into anything without him even realizing he's been snookered. NOT a good trait for authority figures.

Well, I suppose we can always hope, one day after we're dead, for this flaw, this wrinkle, to be removed. Maybe one day we won't want to snooker them any more and the Holy Spirit will give them the wisdom to see when they're being snookered. Oh well, guess we'll just have to wait for that day. Until then, because women have such power over men, best to keep them silent because we sure don't want to place ourselves under the authority of weak men who might be snookered.

I hear Paul may have been quite short...
Maybe the body stood together to make the man leave for a time to get it together.

There is a fantastic amount of truth in that. I believe many people actually NEED to see external, written laws, in black & white, because they are truly afraid, almost terrified, to trust that Christ really can guide their lives from within them.

If they can see and read a set of laws, then they can trust in themselves to keep them. That is probably "safer" to them.
