Money: Is it Good or Bad?

One time while I was in Sunday school class, the subject came up about having money. The spirit of the teaching was that if you had money, then you was probably a rich selfish snob, who would end up in hell.

As I was listening about what was being said, I thought about Abraham, I thought about Job, and I thought about King David. All three of these men had great wealth. And even though they did had great wealth, they loved God!
I spoke up and said, It is not wrong to have money, it is only wrong when money have you. I told them about Abraham, about Job, and about King David. I see money as a tool. You can use money to help you to pay your debts, and you can use your money to help others who are struggling in life trying to meet their basic needs like food, clothing and shelter.

And I believe that there's nothing wrong with pampering yourself either. Buying a nice car for yourself, or buying a nice home, or nice clothes isn't a sin.
If you have the wisdom to make money, then go for it! Just be careful, that you do not fall in love with it!

1 Timothy 6:10
For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.

Apparently I must have said something right, because after church, a man in whom I didn't know, shook my hand, and slipped a fifty dollar bill in my hand.

I agree it is a tool, like one of those lugnut wrenches ...you can use to unscrew a wheel (b/c of a flat tire) or you can bash someone over the head with it or break a car window to steal stuff....it's all how you choose to use......and in itself is not evil...

Money: Is it Good or Bad?
It's just a medium of exchange. It eliminates the problem of a double coincidence of wants and the need to barter. It's a tool to facilitate trade, investment, and spending. It's like asking if a hammer is good or bad; it's just a tool that can be used for good, bad, or neutral purposes.

Nobody ever said money was the root of all evil.... it's the LOVE of money that is.

Look at Solomon... the wealthiest man that ever lived... and the wisest.

I think you nailed it... having money is not bad, it's when the money has YOU that it's a problem... You answered them well, I think...

Money is energy. It gives you power to buy. Gives security and happiness and the lack of it causes anxiety and depression. It is good if you use it to bless people. It is evil if you oppress people to obtain it.
Proverbs 30:7-9 GNT

I ask you, God, to let me have two things before I die: keep me from lying, and let me be neither rich nor poor. So give me only as much food as I need. If I have more, I might say that I do not need you. But if I am poor, I might steal and bring disgrace on my God.

Money is bad! All of you that have some should package it up, and send it to me ASAP, before it contaminates you. (PM me for the address.)

Can I meet that man and shake his hand too? lol

I agree. Money is like slippers -- nice to have, but we can live without too. I don't know why people think being rich is a sin. I'd be rich if I could have pulled it off. I also like slippers.

Besides, you forgot to mention the richest guy in the Bible -- Solomon. He made Michael Jackson look poor -- zoo and all.

Solomon even had a zoo, sort of! (1 Kings 4:23; 10:22, 25, etc.) :p

It is good when it is in the right hands. It is bad when it is in the wrong hands.

Actually, that was related to Pepperjack's post, but I good-and-proper slapped myself when I read yours.
