Hi young lady, I would be more than glad to answer your question.
However, what am I actually answering?
You have provided no Scripture.
Are we to just give our opinions and leave it at that?
Hi Allen,
It's not a personal opinion but based on scripture.
You must know that not everything we'd like answered is in either the O.T. or the N.T. John 21:25 clearly states this.
For instance, you won't find the doctrine of the Holy Trinity in the bible, however, it is in there.
It's there because it's inferred - and that's all we have to go by.
It's also be inference that we can safely say that satan cannot read our minds.
First of all, he is not omnipresent. He cannot be everywhere at one time and uses fallen angels to help him do his work. This can be confirmed in Job 1:7 when the LORD asked satan from whence he came and satan replied "From roaming about on the earth and walking around on it." NASB
It's repeated in the N.T., see 1 Peter 5:8 - "the devil prowls about like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour." NASB
So we see that the devil is not every place at the same time as is God because only God is omnipresent.
The devil is also not omniscient. He doesn't know everything - including our thoughts which only God knows.
God created the angels. Angels do not have all the qualities that God has, they are created beings. Lucifer, or satan, was an angel and so has the qualities of an angel, not of God. Only God is omniscient.
1 Chronicles 28:9 New International Version (NIV)
[SUP]9 [/SUP]“And you, my son Solomon, acknowledge the God of your father, and serve him with wholehearted devotion and with a willing mind, for the Lord searches every heart and
understands every desire and every thought. If you seek him, he will be found by you; but if you forsake him, he will reject you forever.
Psalm 94:11
The LORD knows the thoughts of man,
That they are futile.
We might be able to add Mathew 9:4 and Mathew 12:25 but it's not clear to me if Jesus is able to read the minds of those present or if he can know by his knowledge of them what they're thinking.
So, as you can see, the bible is very clear that GOD can read the thoughts of man but is silent on the same ability for satan.
Many times SILENCE is the proof that the thought or concept never entered into the minds of the inspired writers of either the O.T. or the N.T.
Also, I'd like to add that God can read our thoughts because the Holy Spirit indwells believers - He is a part of us.
Satan does not dwell within a person unless that person is possessed by satan.
Just an aside:
Satan is Hebrew and means Adverary
Devil is Greek and means Accuser
And, if fact, all he could do is accuse us of something already done - which is visible and known - or tempt in different ways until he finds the one that works the best (through trial and error I suppose).
Now, why do you think the O.P. asked this question out of fear?
(whether or not satan can read our thoughts).
