I was just on a forum and Catholosisim came up. I got nothing against people who are catholic but I don't consider them to be Christian either. I here there are quite a few differences between them and a Christian church. My friends Catholic and I'm trying to convince him to convert. But he's in the mindset once a Catholic always a Catholic. Or are the differences minor and nothing to worry about? Most people seem to think so.
Catholics love God like anybody else having talked to them, and some quite devoted, which my grandparents were strict Catholics, and strict with their lifestyle, but for the most part they do not pay too much attention to what is taught, for it sounds right to them.
Cults, and weird interpretations, especially the new age movement, can happen, because they can take scriptures out of context, and it sounds right to them, which the only way to get them to understand,is if they are willing to give you a shot at telling them your interpretation, and then you have to patiently wade through the muck,to clear things up.
They are some denominations that are not that bad, that even though they may be off on a few scriptural truths,it does not do any real damage, and for the most part they got it down, and believe the Gospel of Christ, but some have serious errors, which the ones that have serious errors, are not because they start fresh learning the Bible of when that denomination started, but they dragged something in to it of grave error, and it became kind of like their foundation for the interpretation of scripture.
It is obvious when the Roman Empire embraced Christianity, and the Bible, that they did not abandon all their religious ways that they have practiced, but held unto them, and dragged them in to the Bible, and it kind of became their foundation of the interpretation of scriptures.
So the Roman Catholic Church will do things that can be on the pagan side, and hold tradition as having importance, and doing other things other religions do,and so forth, and that is why Mary can be the Queen of heaven, and the mother of God,and the Pope can be the Holy Father, and the head of the Church, and practices using material objects thinking there is power there, confessing sins to a priest, and so forth.
