We need to be extremely careful about putting God in a box.
The religious leaders thought they had God all figured out per the scripture and contained in a box, but Jesus blew the lid off.
We should pay attention and learn from their mistake. To God be the glory and all praise. Thank you Jesus that you have revealed this to the simple. Amen

I'm a bit confused. How is that a literal interpretation? An individual is 1 person and 2 individuals is two people. How is a nation synonymous with 2 people? Are you saying that the entire population of Israel will be put to death? I need clarification before I say more.

I said that the "death" of the 2 witnesses was literal.

I did try to explain in post #270 but maybe I didn't explain well enough.

The 2 witnesses are the Word of God.

The Law and the Prophets.

At the time of the writing of the book of Revelation, (66 ad? - 96 ad?), there was the Law and the Prophets.

There was no N.T. like we know it today.

Israel still carries them today, they are living witnesses of God's promises to Israel.

I used to think the same way as you and the majority of bible teachers until I invested many, many years of bible study for myself.
After all the apostle Paul admonished us to prove all things, to hold fast to what is good. That's what I did and God is my witness(no pun intended) my conscience also bears me witness that is what I did. I tryed to prove Enoch was taken to the third heaven, but I couldn't. What was I going to do with Jesus own words when speaking to Nicodemus: No man hath ascended into heaven but he who has descended, or the fact that Enoch is on the list in Heb 11 that states: THESE ALL DIED not receiving the promise. I find the book of Enoch very interesting, but I can't put it on the same level as what I can clearly see what the lord and the author of Hebrews wrote. How do you? I assume you know that the bible speaks of three heavens. The atmosphere, that which is above the firmament or space and the abode of God. Now concerning Elijah, he was taken up in the fiery chariot, we cannot extrapolate from what is in scripture, that he was taken to the third heaven. We do find some years later that Elijah wrote a letter to the king of Judah. That is a problem. As for Moses we know that he died and God himself put him in a grave. Now would you please tell me how for the love of God, how can the two olive trees mentioned in Zechariah 4 how can they be the source of the oil(olive oil through out the bible is always used as a symbol of the Holy Spirit). that's my one question. I answered you, please explain that, because I have never heard anyone answer this question. I do realize that I do have a wild imagination and I do think outside the box, but this has never been a problem. I find it to be an asset.

I hope I was not OFF BASE in this rebuttal. 40 years of bible study and still learning. Thank you Lord, thy word makes me wiser than my unfriendly foes.(better the blows of a brother than the kisses of an enemy) thanks for your comments vdp God bless

That is why Christians need to diligently study the word of God. I know from experience, I spent a decade in a very legalistic church. The leader thought he was the end time Elijah, not at first, but other ministers would call him that and after a while he started claiming it himself. I escaped only because I proved from the bible he was a liar and an imposter. I have family still traped in this lie, look at YouTube and see how many imposters are claiming to be someone. That does not give us the right to bet he holy thought police. We can guard our minds with the word of God. Don't you realize the savior died because those in power, the scribes and the Pharisees saw Jesus' ideas to be the ruins of the Jewish nation. Hitler tried to control ideas, burned books. Every ruthless dictator has tried to control ideas.Do you think Christianity should be in the same boat as them. That is not what is meant by: Contend for the faith that was once delivered. Just give it some thought. It is also written that the time is coming that those that kill Christians will think they are doing service to God. I'm not a heretic, or a false prophet. Give us absolute proof by Book, Chapter and verse in the Scriptures!

Because if the two witnesses were GOD and the HOLY SPIRIT as you have said and men don't believe their testimony, why would GOD have to send HIS angels last and afterwards with the everlasting GOSPEL to preach one more time?


1John 5 is sufficient here...for it is GOD who makes HIS PLEA through those vessels whom HE has called who are born of HIS SPIRIT to preach HIS TRUTH...

And just as the Father, the word, and the Spirit are ONE, the water and blood (natural man) and the spirit agree and testify to THIS TRUTH on earth in the one (man born of GOD'S SPIRIT)...

And before you say 1John 5:7-8 were added afterwards, it is okay because 1John 6 kind of clears up the TRUTH of CHRIST"S DIVINITY so that man should make no mistake that This is HE who was born not of "WATER" only...but of water and blood and it is THE SPIRIT who testifies...

You have done them no service in twisting GOD'S WORD at all...
Further, if you had simply preached the TRUTH of CHRIST and they believed, you have done them ALL THE SERVICE that is needed...

For the two witnesses are not preaching to those who believe in the TRUTH of CHRIST...but to those who do not believe in the TRUTH of CHRIST...

Ideas are yeast added to the PURE ((unadulterated)) BREAD of the WORD of TRUTH...
It is ideas and notions and thoughts and suggestions that need to end...so that THE TRUTH may be heard as it should be heard and received...GOD'S WORD and TRUTH...with no man-made additives, suggestions, thoughts, notions, ideas

It's sufficient to trust in GOD'S WORD and PROMISES and GOD'S WORD and PROMISES are most clearly and visibly seen and found and recognized in HIS SON...

It doesn't take HIM 10 years to convict man of THE TRUTH...when THE REVELATION of THE TRUTH of THE SON of GOD is given a man, that man has all that is needed and needful and should not "go out" from THAT DOCTRINE...which is CHRIST who is both the FOUNDATION and the HEAD of HIS OWN BODY...and as such is able to direct and teach the "members" of HIS BODY by HIS OWN LIFE-GIVING SPIRIT...

Remember, by THIS NEW COVENANT, we do not need for any man to teach us...

Wow! All I can say is: It will be interesting to see how many will agree and give approval, by liking this post. Whoever is left, following your way of thinking must die. And I thought the Muslim radicals that saw off peoples heads were dangerous! I see now why judgment begins at the house of God. You make me sad

I don't know how many scriptures I have used in my posts, but I guess you haven't read them, otherwise you would not make such a frivolous accusation. Here's one! Explain how the two olive trees( two witnesses) in Zechariah 4 How can they be the source of the source of the oil(throughout the bible, the olive oil is a symbol of the Holy Spirit) if you can explain that to my satisfaction, I will stop! Please, who would be a candidate to fill that position. I will be awaiting your reply. I've waited two decades, I can be patient a little while longer while you study into it. Peace

Whoever is left and holds to the TESTIMONY and LAW are the ones who will NOT listen to the wrong spirits whispering and muttering everything and anything but THE TESTIMONY and TRUTH of GOD..which is bound up amongst HIS DISCIPLES.
