"by those who believe and who know the truth. For everything God created is good, and nothing is to be rejected if it is received with thanksgiving, because it is consecrated by the word of God and prayer."
ok friend, read really slowly, "because it is consecrated by the word of God". Hello. Do you know what that means? The Word of God tells us what is okay to eat and what is NOT food. You said you eat pork "with God's blessing". You have to be careful with statements like that. God never blessed pork to be eaten. That will make you a false prophet for saying God blessed something when He clearly did not. Please be careful with that. God says eating pork is an abomination. He did not change his mind. Come away from the lies of the adversary.
Your missing the point man! The point is that Paul is talking about those who were still clinging to the law. ALL food, including the foods that were listed under the law that were not to be eaten are not to be rejected if it is received with thanksgiving. Your teaching would bring people back under the works of the law. Believers in Christ are free to eat whatever food they like, as long as their conscience is in agreement. But to teach to abstain from eating the foods that were forbidden under the law, would be attempting to please God by ones own efforts, that is, to take credit for doing those things. The only thing that should be counting on for salvation is what Jesus accomplished and nothing of our efforts. Should we do good works, Yes! But not to obtain or maintain salvation, but to glorify God and by those works we are building up our treasures in heaven. You go before the Lord with the attitude of "Lord look what I did" as a means to obtain salvation and you will be turned away.
"God saved you by his grace when you believed. And you can’t take credit for this; it is a gift from God. Salvation is not a reward for the good things we have done, so none of us can boast about it. "
The things that we have done would be abstaining from the foods that the law forbids, the keeping of the Sabbath as a work to enter into eternal life, keeping holy days, feasts, etc., etc.. You would be doing those things as a means for earning salvation, period. As I demonstrated earlier, Cornelius household received the Spirit while Peter was still speaking and that without being circumcised, promising to keep the law, being baptized or anything else and because God cleansed their hearts through faith apart from the works of the law.
I claim nothing but Christ crucified! He is the One who provided salvation for me and I am not going to attempt to perform works for eternal life which the Lord has already provided by the shedding of His blood. I guarantee you, if you go before the Lord with your works, you will never enter into the kingdom of God.
