Self loading AND firing with one squeeze of the trigger is auto. Civilians really have no need to possess these.
Yeah. When in the Army, I was the NCOIC of the Rifle Range and oversaw annual qualifying for my Battalion. We had one range for semi auto firing and one for fully auto firing. That was for safety purposes. Some of the soldiers only fired their weapons during qualifications, and I and my staff kept a close eye on them, and they only qualified on the semi auto fire range.
For those who actually carried their weapons on a daily basis, we qualified them both semi and fully firing. I was kinda strict. In order for them to qualify as Expert on the full auto range, they had to put a three round burst in the kill zone of a target three times at 100 meters. I was often pleased with the number of soldiers who qualified Expert, and on two occasions, I had three women soldiers who qualified Expert.
The fun part was when (at the end of the qualification session) we would allow them to approach a target at 50 meters with a 25 round clip, set at full auto, and let 'em have at it. They enjoyed it, but only those who qualified Expert got to do this.
