Make every effort to live in peace with everyone and to be holy; without holiness no one will see the Lord. See to it that no one falls short of the grace of God and that no bitter root grows up to cause trouble and defile many. See that no one is sexually immoral, or is godless like Esau, who for a single meal sold his inheritance rights as the oldest son.
Heb 12:14-16
I met a person some years ago who had let a bitter root grow in them. Every conversation
was turned against the people they felt bitter about.
It reminded me of another conversation here on cc about legalism and churches people had
belonged to in the passed. I was linked with their experiences and told I was just like so & so
and how lost and empty they were.
I also got hurt in my church and thought I was rejected etc. But then forgiveness came and
I was set free. I realised it was bitterness and the wrong expectations that led to judgementalism
and condemnation. So quickly it grew. The key signs are continual mention of a group or
person, as if they embody some evil, which no-one actually does.
So it makes me wonder if HG is at its core is about a root of bitterness, and so much is about
reflecting on the failure of others, and not enough on what Christ is doing in their hearts today.
Everywhere hurts can cause bitterness, but dwelling in Christ and seeing His love and words, washes
and heals the soul, so each person appears as a fresh opportunity to share love and blessing with.
So bless you all in your sharing and reaching out to Christ and His work in your lives. We are all
dependent on God for everything, and need His spirit to work powerfully in us to bring us into His love
