I would have been very surprised if Jesus had interrupted His message in order to deal with something so unimportant to Him. It was NOT a teaching occasion. The disciples were still learning and had yet to receive the Spirit of illumination, and to realise that the Gentiles had an equal part in the one new man. Then they would soon realise that the kingdom was being restored in the new church that was forming, the new nation (Matt 21-43).
But as the NT says NOTHING about Jesus returning to Jerusalem I suppose that people have to look for it in the silences![]()
I would agree .I think that can be seen by looking at Luke 9 . Every time the Lord would hide the spiritual meaning in a parable. they would become faithless not trusting the Holy Spirit ,not seen. They would start to look for another outward form as to "who is the greatest".
Three times in that portion of scripture they denied Christ. The last time still not understanding the parable they set there eyes on the temporal Jerusalem, as if the kingdom of God was of this world, wanting to kill all the gentiles who they thought were a outward competition, as those who do walk by sight, the temporarily. And not faith the unseen eternal) . Christ rebuked the apostles.
And sent messengers before his face: and they went, and entered into a village of the Samaritans, to make ready for him.
And they (the apostles)did not receive him, because his face was as though he would go to Jerusalem. And when his disciples James and John saw this, they said, Lord, wilt thou that we command fire to come down from heaven, and consume them, even as Elias did?But he turned, and rebuked them, and said, Ye know not what manner of spirit ye are of.Luk 9:52 -55
It was obvious it was not the manner of faith, the eternal, not seen. But rather they understood by the things seen the temporal.
