Although I am in favor of wisely monitored free speech, there occasionally comes a point where, in a privately owned online forum such as Christian Chat, a sincere group of people may request limitations on some types of speech.

For instance, in a privately owned Jewish online forum, there may be call to limit the ravings of pro-hitler anti-jewish posters.

The purpose of this thread is to see what people's thoughts and feelings are to no longer allow posts regarding the Flat Earth Conspiracy.

Even if the sentiment is unanimous one way or the other, it is still entirely up to the discretion of the website owner what to do about the issue.

Personally, I would like to see the subject banned. Threads or posts promoting the Flat Earth Non-Sense (FENS) will simply be deleted.

Those posters who continue to make such posts will gradually loose rep points. And after a few clear offenses will be banned.

At the very least, allowing FENS on the website:
1 - wastes disk space on the servers,
2 - clutters up the forums with non-sense postings,
3 - suggests to visitors to this web site that Christians are ignorant and crazy,
4 - wastes the time of posters such as myself and others who actually try to reason with the FENS,
(Yes, I know I can stop posting. I really don't know why I continue to do so.)
5 - takes attention away from truthful discussions about true concerns and real conspiracies,
6 - encourages the trolls or delusionaries who continue to post the FENS.

What are your thoughts on banning FENS?

Thank you.

I don't think any thread or post should be banned and that includes any particular member that may have views or perceptions that are contrary to other members.

There should be a peripheral Chat area. It is very tenuously biblical, and an extremely pointless question, so it should just be put somewhere in the corner.

Bible Discussion should mean what it says

I'm not for censorship, even though the flat earth theory seems completely preposterous to me.

I submit that polls should be removed from CC, they offer no solutions or resolutions and clearly they are skewed for the purpose of misinformation. Unless, were you speaking of "pole shifts" perchance?

we already have rules that no anti- Christian propaganda is used
we even have rules that say Catholics are not Christian......
so why should we allow crazy conspiracy theories?

I support censorship for online forums, as they are meant to be a place of discussion for a particular group of people.

Like, say, someone comes to the site merely to work to twist the bible to lead away new Christians who arent yet strong in their knowledge and faith, Id definitely vote to kick them. This is a Christian forum, so obviously it should be kept that way. There are places for those who wish to debate with others who are willing to debate them, this isnt the place.

With this though, I dunno, Im somewhat supportive, as I dont believe the bible at all says the earth is flat, but that it actually says its round, and I think that its a really meaningless conversation to be creating on a Christian forum. But I dunno about removing them and banning them or anything : p
(removing existing ones who suggest a ban on them)

We have rules that say Catholics are not Christian? (I'm not Catholic, I'm just curious about that.)

I wanted to vote yes but I hesitated when I saw your post. But do you really read threads about flat earth conspiracy?

At first I was mildly curious about it. Then I got to thinking a lot more about the whole concept and wanted to help delusionaries think through the details. Now I am convinced - based on NO empirical evidence, that most of the posts are from trolls.

But, I still can't figure out who is delusional, self-aggrandizing and paranoid, and who are doing it because of a warped personality, and who are doing it for a hidden agenda with or without pay.

After so many months of reading and responding, I doubt there is any value in trying to reason through the ideas with the FENSers.

In my opinion, either they are deluded and unreachable, or know better and reasoning is irrelevant.

Most of my motivation in posting is the desire to help people think through honest questions.

Hmm, maybe it wasn't in the rules, but moderators / administrators have made anti- catholic threads in the past

You are correct and I agree, of course. No anti-Christian rhetoric should be tolerated. I just meant as Christians, we should be able to communicate so as to encourage, pray for and help each other, ya know? But I'm not a mod, so what would I know about running a site? LOL

I think what you're proposing inadvertently is to remove the Conspiracy Forum, which would lead to these topics ending up in the Miscellaneous Forum. So, I'd respectfully disagree.

I wanted feedback on the topic. I didn't know how else to frame the question.

I speculated that there would be more agreement with doing so. There is strong support for not restricting the topic. That is helpful for me to know.

I will not contact the administrators with the suggestion.

In this case, it seems the poll is quite appropriate. Would you agree in this case?

If those who believe in say, the flat earth theory aren't aloud to post things on it how on Earth are they ever going to change their mind?
Banning these things also bans the chance of us being able to show truth to some people.

I hereby concede that restricting the "Flat Earth Non-Sense" (FENS) from CC is not the correct thing to do at the moment.

Thank you for your input.
