From Adam through the giving of the law there was the oral tradition. This oral tradition was amended somewhat with the flood and God gave Noah His instructions called Noahic (sp) laws until Moses, and with Moses teh oral tradition was written down.
Now there is an enorrmous break in the oral laws, and that is when Abraham was given the Gospel, and the promises for his offspring.
If anyone cares to correct or add to my understanding, by all means your contributions are welcome.
Love works no ill towards their neighbor;therefore love is the fulfilling of the law,and the two greatest commandments is love God,and love people,those are the spiritual laws that everybody will be judged by whether they have the words of God or not.
Rom 1:17 For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith: as it is written, The just shall live by faith.
Rom 1:18 For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness;
Rom 1:19 Because that which may be known of God is manifest in them; for God hath shewed it unto them.
Rom 1:20 For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse:
Rom 1:21 Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened.
Rom 1:22 Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools,
Creation testifies that there is a higher power,and His attributes,that created all things,and one of those attributes is love,for He provided food,and the means to make clothing,and shelter,so nobody has an excuse for not believing that.
So before the law was given,this universal law that extends to all who dwell upon the earth,is in place,and is today too,if they have not heard the word of God.
Abraham was not given the Gospel though,for the Gospel is spiritual salvation,a goal that they could not attain to in the Old Testament,for the blood of animals could not completely take away their sins,to be able to have the Spirit,to perfectly live up to the two greatest commandments,love God,and love people,but in the New,the blood of Christ takes our sins away completely,and we can have the Spirit to love perfectly.
Physical ordinances no longer apply,for they have no bearing on spiritual salvation.
