Without the Law of Sacrifice there would be no mercy, the only reason we have mercy is because Yahshua/Jesus gave Himself up in our place. The greatest gift of mercy ever given was by the Law and will of the Most High.

Is there anything not true about that?

so you state that all the animals sacrificed were atonement even thought the scripture states that the blood of bulls and goats could never atone?

that is the only way that the system of sacrifice in the OT would have any true value

as it is, the ONLY value it has is to point the way to the FINAL sacrifice

stating the greatest gift of mercy ever given was by the law demonstrates a total lack of comprehension on your ability to make any sense out of either testament IMO

seriously? your response would be funny if you were not serious!

Bait and switch, you act like I said something I didnt and then use it to say Im wrong.

I can sum it up easily;

Yahshua, it means YHWH is our Salvation.

Dude, You can act all religious with your Hebrew idioms. It does not help.

You stated when asked that the law gave mercy and it gave you Jesus. It did not. No amount of Hebrew idioms will change that.

The law did not give you Jesus, My statement stands

This is an excellent passage, thank you for posting. In Galatians 5, Paul continues on this theme of not being under the law. I believe he is writing concerning Judiazers, who were trying to get new Gentile Christians to be circumcised, and follow the law of Moses. Paul rebukes them again soundly in chapter 5 verses 1-12. But then, because they are new gentile Christians, who have no idea what is sin and what is not, Paul TEACHES them HOW to love one another. He closes with bringing them back to the results of not giving into their fleshly desires. Context again - the chapter, the book, the Bible is so important!

"13 You, my brothers and sisters, were called to be free. But do not use your freedom to indulge the flesh; rather, serve one another humbly in love.14 For the entire law is fulfilled in keeping this one command: “Love your neighbor as yourself.”15 If you bite and devour each other, watch out or you will be destroyed by each other.

16 So I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh. 17 For the flesh desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the flesh. They are in conflict with each other, so that you are not to do whatever you want. 18 But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law.
19 The acts of the flesh are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery; 20 idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions 21 and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God.
22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law. 24 Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires.25 Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit. 26 Let us not become conceited, provoking and envying each other."
Gal 5:13-26

As you can see - there is a pretty strong sin list in Galatians in verses 19-21. Paul does NOT want these new converts turning to Judaism. But, there are still right ways and wrong ways to live when you are loving God and your brother. AND, people need to actually be taught these things. I truly believe that because we read the Word of God and believe it, the Holy Spirit will indeed lead us to see the areas that need transforming. Again, transformation in the New Testament is always in the passive imperative.

Passive imperative:
Passive means God does it to us.
Imperative means God commands us to do it!
So we have a responsiblity. It is not just about floating along, doing nothing and suddenly we are sanctified! Instead, God calls us, commands us, in fact to read, learn, listen and obey!

Paul has made it very clear we do not live under the law, and we are not bound by the law in Galatians! Hallelujah! BUT, he also talks about the flesh and the havoc it can wreak! So we do need to read, pray, and obey the admonitions to walk in the Spirit not the flesh! Yes, we are given the Holy Spirit when we are saved! Yes, the Spirit will never leave us! But, we can still walk in the flesh, if we either are not aware of God's expectations, because we have not studied the Word and hidden it in our hearts, or we are willfully defying God, and defying the Holy Spirit.

We are under a great obligation to walk in the Spirit. But if we always did - would these warnings Paul gives in several places be necessary? We have a responsiblity to walk with the Spirit as he walks with us. That is why Christ gave us his commands, and that is why Paul so strongly says in verse 13 above that we have a choice about whether to walk in the Spirit or the flesh!

So this is not really a grace vs law issue at all! it is a flesh versus spirit issue! Let us not find ourselves defending something we all agree with, but rather, look instead at the real issues of walking in the flesh. Verse 17 so clearly states:

"For the flesh desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the flesh. They are in conflict with each other, so that you are not to do whatever[ you want." Gal. 5:17

Paul repeats this again in Romans 8:5:

"
Those who live according to the flesh have their minds set on what the flesh desires; but those who live in accordance with the Spirit have their minds set on what the Spirit desires." Romans 8:5

These are truly important instructions about how God expects us to act. Do not ignore the verses you do not like! But no condemnation or judgement on anyone in this forum. Just the deep theology behind what walking in the Spirit really means!

I understand that passage and the rest full well and the reason the book of Galatians was written

kindly do not underestimate people because they do not write a book every time they post

do YOU understand that the op does not believe Paul's letter have the same value as the rest of scripture?

which is, of course, the only way one can hang on to the law and shove it at everyone with the wild abandon we have demonstrated in this thread

to the best of my knowledge, you do not hold that view

I sure hope you do not hold that view

ps...as I ran out of time with regards to my post 103

OF COURSE it is actually a flesh vs spirit issue and Paul makes that adamantly clear in his opening sentences!!

I have yet to see one single 'law keeper' or variation on the theme believer, give acknowledgement to this book in it's value as it goes directly AGAINST what they preach/teach

so then, is emphasis on the law and keeping it a work of the flesh or the spirit?

everything hinges on that answer

stating Paul is hard to understand is law keeper 'CODE' for Paul was not really an apostle and we do not agree with what he teaches

that discussion has been had over and over in these forums...perhaps you did not participate? dunno

as Paul states, having begun in the spirit, are you now being perfected in the flesh?

it is obvious from the op, that we do NOT all agree

I took me 5 minutes to reply, and you said this:

yet I am still waiting for more than an hour for your reply concenring this matter:

I answered you

you choose verses to support your neglect to apply what Paul wrote

EVERYTHING law keepers and variations on that theme teach do the same thing because it is the ONLY way you can reach the contusions (intentional) that you do

you prefer not to discuss that fact, yet EVERYTHING colors your view of the Bible BECAUSE of that fact

I don't play word games so you are not going to get me to respond to your PERSONAL opinions and demand I answer questions that you base ON those opinions

let's be a little more sophisticated, ok?

There is an intent of Instructions and a legalistic view.

These 4 passages sum it up better than I can with my own words.

Matt 7:12, "So then, whatever you desire that others would do to and for you, even so do also to and for them, for this is (sums up) the Law and the Prophets."

Mattithyah 22:37-40, "Yahshua said to him: You must love YHWH your Father with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your might. This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself. On these two commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets."

Romans 13:9-10, "For the commandments: You shall not commit adultery, You shall not murder, You shall not steal, You shall not bring false testimony, You shall not covet, and all other commandments are summed up in these Laws; namely: You must love your neighbor as yourself. Love does no wrong to a neighbor; therefore love is the fulfilling of the Law."

1 John 5:2-3 (ESV), "By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God and obey his commandments. For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments. And his commandments are not burdensome.

All the text in RED shows that LOVE is the intent. Love according to His standard, not mine, not your, HIS.

If there is no standard, there is no sin and verything satan does is OK. This is not so.

oh there is an intent in this thread all right

darn tooting......

Mat 22:36-40, "Teacher, what is the greatest commandment in the Law? Yahshua said to him: You must love YHWH your Father with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your might (Deuteronomy 6:5). This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself (Leviticus 19:18). On these two commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets."

Is this teaching still valid for the NT Christian?

and

How does this apply to our walk?

Luke 16:16-17, "The Law and the Prophets were until Yahchanan(John), since that time the Kingdom of Yahweh is preached, and every man is pressed to enter it. But it is easier for heaven and earth to pass, than one yodh of the Law to fail."

Will do DC

Hebrews 10

For it is impossible for the blood of bulls and goats to take away sins.

5Consequently, when Christa came into the world, he said,

“Sacrifices and offerings you have not desired,
but a body have you prepared for me;
6in burnt offerings and sin offerings
you have taken no pleasure.
7Then I said, ‘Behold, I have come to do your will, O God,
as it is written of me in the scroll of the book.’”

8When he said above, “You have neither desired nor taken pleasure in sacrifices and offerings and burnt offerings and sin offerings” (these are offered according to the law), 9then he added, “Behold, I have come to do your will.” He does away with the first in order to establish the second. 10And by that will we have been sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.

11And every priest stands daily at his service, offering repeatedly the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins. 12But when Christ had offered for all time a single sacrifice for sins, he sat down at the right hand of God, 13waiting from that time until his enemies should be made a footstool for his feet. 14For by a single offering he has perfected for all time those who are being sanctified.

15And the Holy Spirit also bears witness to us; for after saying,

16“This is the covenant that I will make with them
after those days, declares the Lord:
I will put my laws on their hearts,
and write them on their minds,
”

17then he adds,

“I will remember their sins and their lawless deeds no more.”

18Where there is forgiveness of these, there is no longer any offering for sin.

Clearly if we look at the context itsabout the law of sacrifices, and how Messiah's Sacrifie is the true Sacrifice...

Clearly the entire book points to more than just that..as in a better way, system, sacrifice etc...my point still stands!

Response: --- I have read or scanned all of the posts and there is a lot of good Scripture confirming that 'Yes, this teaching is still valid for today.' Love is the theme of the Christian life, "Now abide, Faith, Hope, Love, but the greatest of these is Love.

This is what Jesus said to the disciples in the upper room, after Judas had left the supper to betray Jesus to the Pharisees. --- Jesus gave a New Commandment to the 11. --- It was not 'new' in the Scripture, but it was new to them, because it was no longer taught by the Pharisees --- but it would become their 'new lifestyle.' --- Jesus said in John 13:

34 "A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another.

35 By this all will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another."

--- So everyone who has the indwelling Holy Spirit actually has this Spirit of love.`

And I see that you used part of this context that was taught by Paul. --- He knew the OT and the Laws of Moses, so he does respond to this subject by making application from the Ten Commandments in Exodus 20. --- We find this in Romans 13:

8 Owe no one anything except to love one another, for he who loves another has fulfilled the law.

9 For the commandments, "You shall not commit adultery," "You shall not murder," "You shall not steal," "You shall not bear false witness," "You shall not covet," and if there is any other commandment, are all summed up in this saying, namely, "You shall love your neighbor as yourself."

10 Love does no harm to a neighbor; therefore love is the fulfillment of the law.

The first 4 Commandments deal with our love and respect for God. --- If we love God, we will be obedient to Him in all of His instructions for us. --- The fifth Commandment is "Honor your father and mother." --- If we love our parents we will honor and respect them, and care for them as they cared for us.

--- And the other five Commandments deal with our neighbors, the outside world.

--- So we are to have a lifestyle where people "Know we are Christians by our love one to another." --- The big quest is, "How do we reflect that love?"

To Love God right, IS to Love one another as we Love ourselves. service to God, is to serve One another. even the Law is about how we treat others. to steal from you, is to not Love you, to lie to you is not Love, to cheat on a spouse is to not Love them, to disobey our parents is to not Love them. Our society thinks Love is nice words, But it is action. your op rings in my mind as this

1 john 5:1-5 "Everyone who believes that Jesus is the Christ is born of God, and everyone who loves the father loves his child as well. 2This is how we know that we love the children of God: by loving God and carrying out his commands. 3In fact, this is love for God: to keep his commands. And his commands are not burdensome, 4for everyone born of God overcomes the world. This is the victory that has overcome the world, even our faith. 5Who is it that overcomes the world? Only the one who believes that Jesus is the Son of God."

the commands of God that came through Jesus ARE Love for one another, and that is Gods command to us, that is how we honor God by Loving one another, but not just our friends and family......the least of Gods people who need true Love that is action. a homeless man doesnt need someone to say " i feel for ya, be well i hope things get better, love you friend"....they need a helping Hand in the name of Jesus, they need a meal, a drink, a visitor, clothes they need true Godly Love and there is a world of Hurting, impoverished, starving, lonely, judged ect people in the world. Love is what Jesus taught us to actually do, Love is what the Law taught also. the difference is the law came to the sinner so it reads as rules forbidding things " thou shalt not" it reads as it does because no one was born again of the spirit at that time, it came to govern sin in sinners Lives. it teaches Love by telling rebels what NOT TO DO to one another.

Jesus taught Love to the new creation who is born again through Him. He taught the children of God what TO do to Love one another. same spirit, the difference is man. and the fact that the Kingdom of God is for the inner mans death and rebirth, the Law does not have that rpovision, it is a system of rules restraining people who are slaves to sin. under the Law Gods commands are a burden because in the heart the people are born rebels. we died to that, because we lay down our old selves for the sake of Jesus, and we are born again through accepting the truth of His word. Yes, that is Just as valid today as it will always be, Love God above all, by Loving one another in Hinor of Jesus Christ and His sacrifice for us

The law did not give you Christ, it was given to lead you to Christ.
Huge difference.

The law and the prophets were to introduce to the world God and his terms of life and interaction.
Christ was the cornerstone of this message, the ultimate demonstration of Gods heart.

The lie being pushed here is there is a difference between the old testament and the new
rather than the new testament is the fruit of the old, all its contents worked out bringing
the Kingdom of heaven to earth, and communion with the Holy Spirit for every believer.

I would say by following Yahshua/Jesus - reading the word so we may remember and understand it and apply it - to be honest, kind, not slanderous, patient, caring, but also not to comprimise with wrong/wrongdoing, not to be worldly, etc. SO much more but just to sum it up, these are some of it... Mercy, Righteous Judgement, Faithfulness.

The lie being pushed here is there is a difference between the old testament and the new
rather than the new testament is the fruit of the old, all its contents worked out bringing
the Kingdom of heaven to earth, and communion with the Holy Spirit for every believer.

its like a plan to build a house peter, One is the foundation. the other is the home completed to dwell in. there is a difference in laying a foundation , and building the actual House. Just as there is a difference, in the old testament, and the new. they are the 2 covenants promised to abraham. the old testament is for the isrealites led out of egypt. it is a pattern of what was to come. some of the differences. Moses doesnt offer eternal Life, Jesus does. Moses commands sinners to be put to death, Jesus commands sinners to never cast a stone at another sinner. the old testament rewquires animl sacrifice, Jesus is the sacrifice for atonement in the new. the old came to sinners with no power to give rebirth, Jesus offers a pardon for the sinner, and the power to transform them into a child of God. the Old speaks opf a circumcision of the heart, Jesus offers that circumcision to make us new inside, because our actions come from inside us. a clean Mind filled with Gods truth, will automatically produce Godly fruit. the old came to those who had died through adam, the new comes to those who Live in Christ.

I understand your comment, without a foundation, we cant build the house and expect it to stand, but a foundation has no walls or roof to guard us from the storms either. Just like laying a foundation rewuires certain tasks and certain materials, so did the first covenant. and Just as when you are finished with the foundation, you need different materials and skills to build the House. Gods Plan began before either of the abrahamic promises came. remeber the first covenant came long, long after the promuise to abraham for the Jews, and for the world through them. if a person followed the old testament to the letter, we would transgress Jesus command in the gospel. if we follow Jesus wholely, we will not transgress the moral Laws. yet we must not follow the mosaic Laws because the command Judgement on one another, and sentance by one another, based on the testimony of one another. the gospel is superior offering Mercy and forgiveness by one another.

if we stone a person for thier sin, we are not obeying Jesus, yet if we do not stone a sinner, we are disobeying Moses...the difference

" matthew 9:13 "But go and learn what this means: 'I desire mercy, not sacrifice.' For I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners ." ( to repentance) The Law hardens the sinners Heart and makes Gods Law, simply rules rather than the spirit of Love that is veiled in it. God completed everything By showing US mercy, and teaching us to give mercy rather than meaningless sacrifice. under the law, if a person had many many livestock, there is nothing to say they couldnt sin freely and then sacrifice animals because the Law made that atonement for thier sin. The gospel is all transparent from the heart where Gods spirit dwells, we cant Hide our motives, everything has to be sincere.

I dont always do well when I try to word things in my words, but you did a great job here, thank you so much, to me, this is the intent.

funny i understand most everything you word :) the spirit is able God bless you in all things He is pleased to do so, and may yuou and all of us know more and more His will for those of us in Christ Jesus, His eternal Family

May we all be one in the Messiah! In Spirit and truth!

Hebrew 4:12 For the Word of Yah is living, and working, and sharper than any two-edged sword, cutting through even to the dividing of being and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and able to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart.

1 Kings 3:9,11, "So give your servant a discerning heart to govern your people and to distinguish between right and wrong. For who is able to govern this great people of yours? And the Almighty said to him, “Because you have asked this, and have not asked for yourself long life or riches or the life of your enemies, but have asked for yourself understanding to discern what is right."

The great teaching of Jesus on Love expressed through `good works` is found in the Sermon on the mount, that show how Love is applicable today.

The first verses are called the `Beatitudes,` which comes from the word, `Beatify,`which means `to make happy` or `blessed.` --- In the Amplified Bible it gives the expanded meaning of the Greek, and says:
3 "Blessed [spiritually prosperous, happy, to be admired] are the poor in spirit [those devoid of spiritual arrogance, those who regard themselves as insignificant], for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

We could simply say, these should `Be (our) Attitudes,` to mold us into the mature believers that God wants us to be. --- Matthew 5:
1 And seeing the multitudes, He went up on a mountain, and when He was seated His disciples came to Him.
2 Then He opened His mouth and taught them, saying:
3 "Blessed are the poor in spirit, For theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
4 Blessed are those who mourn, For they shall be comforted.
5 Blessed are the meek, For they shall inherit the earth.
6 Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, For they shall be filled.
7 Blessed are the merciful, For they shall obtain mercy.
8 Blessed are the pure in heart, For they shall see God.
9 Blessed are the peacemakers, For they shall be called sons of God.

10 Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness’ sake, For theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
11 "Blessed are you when they revile and persecute you, and say all kinds of evil against you falsely for My sake.
12 Rejoice and be exceedingly glad, for great is your reward in heaven, for so they persecuted the prophets who were before you.

13 "You are the salt of the earth; but if the salt loses its flavor, how shall it be seasoned? It is then good for nothing but to be thrown out and trampled underfoot by men.
14 "You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden.
15 Nor do they light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house.
16 Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.``

--- We are called to serve the Lord, and whatever we do should be guided by the Holy Spirit, to bring glory to God.
