They sort of mean the same thing to me. They are irrevocable meaning God will not change His mind and revoke them. And without repentance means the same thing to me: He will not change His mind...
Yes, both of them mean exactly the same thing.

Wow Willie, judgemental much? I did read the whole article before posting. Then I went back and commented on points of the article I found troubling and made a brief summary of each main point.

Happens to be the way i learn.

Why do you have such issues with it?
Is this the way you read the Bible?????? Making up your mind, a verse at a time, "Yes", "NO", Yes", "NO", depending on how you happen to take that particular verse?

For anyone that is interested in this subject - Here is an excellent teaching of how the word "repentance" actually came from the latin word "to do penance" and distorted the actual meaning of the Greek word " metanoia".

I believe it was the catholic church that did this and it was for a specific reason.

Not according to the very words you, yourself, posted. It's right there for us to see. (Last line of post #492.)

Willie, please listen to me. It isn't what you have to say that's the problem. It really isn't. It's HOW you choose to say it.

Yes, it doesn't mean they believe what someone might think they believe. I think it means to turn from my unbelief. Unbelief is sin. The opposite of unbelief to me is belief. I truly think all sin springs from unbelief. So when it is said: turn from your sin, my mind translates it to: turn from my unbelief and turn toward God and believe.
I agree...I can see where "turning from the sin of unbelief" would be the fruit of having repented to trust in what Christ has done and not be in unbelief.

I can see the term used in that context for sure. Because you did "change your mind" to think differently then you did before when you heard the message of Christ and with the belief that followed your repentance Christ came into your heart and cleansed your heart by faith as Peter said in Acts 15:9.

In both accounts of the word for word preaching of the gospel by Peter and Paul - in no place were the people told to "repent" and yet - they did repent when they heard the message of their sins were forgiven through Christ.

The true proclaiming of the gospel provides all the ingredients that are necessary to be born again and to receive the abundance of grace and the gift of righteousness.

From Willie repentance article.....

What I disagree with;

1. "If turning from your sins means to stop sinning, then people can only be saved if they stop sinning."

Nope it means that you find no pleasure in your sins and have the inward desire to stop doing it.

I see though the misconception he is trying to address. However, I would like to note when people say "turn from sin" it does not necessary mean THEY MEAN sinless perfection, even if some people misunderstand the term to imply they have to be sinless to be saved.

We at least agree on his second point:

2. "A second faulty idea is that repentance is sorrow for sin. The Bible says in II Corinthians 7:10, "For godly sorrow worketh repentance to salvation not to be repented of...." Though godly sorrow may bring about repentance, it is not the same as repentance."

Who teaches you have to have a certain amount of sorrow to be saved? Its beginning to look like a field of strawmen...but I will continue reading..,(will post and comment on next post)
For your #1 above, from what I recall of the article, this man was not agreeing with this. He was quoting what someone ELSE taught and then showing that it was not true. In other words, the sentence you quoted was not him but was actually a statement he was refuting in his essay.

You mean people should not read my content, but rather enjoy fuzzy feelings from how many compliments I give them, or how many Smiley Faces they can count in a post? Are you truly being serious? What happened to the way you guys like to say that the truth is the truth, no matter if the reader likes it, or not.

You've done well too Ariel. No man can take our peace and our walk in the Spirit. It's by our own hand that we permit it.
============================================================

we're convicted, and we 'repent' and we GROW - our sins must become a 'thing of our PAST', it's called,
'OVER-COMING', - it is a 'life-long-process'...it is our Grace from Messiah to be able to TURN from
our 'old-man' in order to on the 'new-man'...

I don't know what else I can say, Willie. Attacking people and calling them ignorant idiots is not the way to get people to consider what you have to say. Berating them for their reading comprehension is just going to stop their ears and make them not care what you have to say. So if your goal is to help others and build them up, then you are not building very well but are instead trying to build while at the same time opposing the work.

What I am saying is completely attested to by the apostle. It doesn't matter if you have ALL knowledge, without love, gentleness, meekness, humility - you are a clanging sound in the ears. And if no one will listen to you because of the way you say it, then He can't use you as He wishes to.

If you really can't see this, I don't know what else I can say.

Perhaps it is just semantics. Without a doubt the actual Greek word simply means "To change the mind - change what we are thinking"

...there are fruits of having this changed mind which would reflect in now believing the truth about Christ- but the changed mind or thinking comes first.

In the case you were talking about - you changed your mind to think stop the way you were thinking - which is unbelief - which resulted in you now believing and to instead to think correctly that Christ has forgiven your sins as in the gospel message.

Jesus said it perfectly.

1) Repent and 2) believe the gospel. Change your mind - your thinking that you were previously thinking about God and believe the good news now. One must repent before they believe.

Mark 1:15 (NASB)
[SUP]15 [/SUP] and saying, "The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand; repent and believe in the gospel."

Anyway - I am just stating my views on it and it really became true for me when I read the actual accounts of the real gospel of the grace of God in Christ being preached by Peter and Paul in Acts 10 and 13.

This over-pushing of having to be PC so that some Snowflake's sensibilities aren't bruised is half the reason our country is in a death spiral.

How gently did Jesus tell the Rich Young Ruler to go sell everything he owned? How good did Peter feel about being told three times that He was not really loving Christ? I imagine the statement "Get behind me, Satan!" really comforted him in his "Safe Space." I think you have turned the speaking of simple truths into the itching ear scratching the Bible spoke of.

Can you "turn" before you have decided to turn?
The turning is the same as repenting to me. Turning to God. But I don't think an argument on semantics is going to help here. I don't see turning and repenting as two different things. You see them as two very distinct things. I am fine with you thinking how you think. I don't have any desire to change your mind and the way it thinks, understands and processes so that it is identical to mine. And I don't demand that everyone must use the same exact words as me. And I don't demand that anyone cry as much as I did or feel regret as much as I did when I turned to Him. But neither should they demand that I don't cry or that I don't tell Him I'm sorry. You are so trying to legislate repentance that you are making laws regarding it almost. It's very personal and you can't really legislate it.

Cry all you want. Just don't try to tell people that your crying is repentance. It is simply the way YOU needed to express the repentance you had already decided upon.

You REALLY may get a lot from listening to that video Bruce posted.
