My husband and I watched about 20 mins of a documentary last night. We started late so I hope to finish it today. I forget the exact name but it was about Islam in Pakistan. They were interviewing a pre-teen girl, about 11 I'd say. She was pointing to a school and saying she had leapt off the back wall and run away leaving her burka behind. Why had she run? Because she was beaten for not keeping herself covered. As the film continues you see no women on the street, all men. When finally do see women all you see is a wall of black, covered from head to toe,no faces seen. Is this what God wants? Is this what God demands of women? Oppression, beatings,no freedom? I get upset when people try to preach a Gospel that binds people, particularly women, and takes away their freedom.
We have someone here that has said more women will be in hell. And also believes its ok to abuse a woman. The Bible tells husbands to treat their wives with consideration and honor, lest their prayers will not be heard. In Matthew Jesus says that we are not to lord authority over each other. When I read some of the things Ive read here I ask where is the difference in some of these views from Islam?
Ive seen in this thread and another all about how women are responsible for dressing modestly. Im about to tell a story here and try not to be vulgar in making my point. My parents, husband and I recently went to a concert at a local church. The person that is the owner of the group I know very well and its a popular southern group. I know without a doubt that the group owner is a Bible believing Christian,Ive known him for years. My husband didn't know him.So I was so happy to see my friend after all this time.
Skipping forward, the men in the group are all married. They walked onstage and did a wonderful job.And I was happy to see my friend and got a chance to talk after service. When we were driving home I eagerly asked my husband if he'd enjoyed the concert and could tell right away he hadn't. He said "didnt you notice the youngest guy?" I admitted I hadn't. He said "how could you not?!" When I asked him to explain he said that the young man had been wearing "skinny" pants. And my husband asked if the young man was possibly gay. I talked to my mother the next day,who had been sitting in the front row. I asked her if she had noticed and she said that everything was so visible she didn't know which way to look. It was very noticeable to her.
People here know I traveled a lot in ministry. And I noticed lately a lot of young Christian men wearing pants as tight as they can wear them and shirts to match. I hear very little complaining about this and I wonder why? If men think that women are not visual at all, they need to dip in to some conversations Ive heard women have. Why is there nothing in this thread about how males dress and conduct themselves? I wonder, and I worry when I see the attitude toward women by some here.We are not Islamic, there is freedom in Christ, yet we all should dress modestly.
I get the feeling by some here that woman are naturally bad. Its just in their nature to try and lead men astray. They are naughty and need to be hit when they "disobey" and should cover themselves so as not to tempt men. I disagree wholeheartedly with feminism. Some here don't,but I do. That being said I also disagree with the attitude that women, like in Islam, that women cannot control their feelings, their sexuality, their thoughts and men must be daddy and discipline them. This is a ridiculous notion and not what the Bible teaches about women. If this is your belief they have a religion for you,Islam, you'll love their women,go find one of them. They're use to looking like, and being treated like garbage. My 10 cents for what its worth.
