If I Started Dating Someone on CC, I Would:

  • Announce it to as many people as possible, as soon as possible. After all, we're in LOVE!!!

  • Never announce it to anyone but close family and friends. No one else needs to know.

  • Possibly announce it after we had been seeing each other for some time (4-6 months). (Or what time f

Okay I'm going to post a serious reply to this thread in a minute, but first I have to get two things out of the way.

First: WOW, seoulsearch started a thread that got THREE POSTS from Kirk! Not one, not even two, but a whole THREE POSTS! Kim I am impressed! I have seen Kirk in chat occasionally but I have never seen him post in the forum before.

Nah. That biting sense of humor is a good thing to have. Many people have too thin of skin to appreciate it.

Okay, now... would I announce it in CC? Yes I would announce it if two conditions were met.

1 - I was certain we were actually "together" and she also acknowledged it. I don't do assumptions with matters of the heart.

2 - If she was cool with it being announced.

As for what if we broke up, well, that's life. I announce the good in my life, I'd announce the bad too. I wouldn't leave the forum over it though.

I picked "Possibly announce it after we had been seeing each other for some time" (my time would be 6mo-1year, depending on how long I'd known the person before we started dating and how much we were able to talk, visit, etc), and "it would depend on what the other person wanted to do--we would decide together". Upon consideration (I'm a horrible click now, think later poll person :p), I would actually probably wait until I was engaged. But honestly? I could never see myself in an online relationship.

Well there was this time I met a guy on CC and we hit it off and started regularly e-mailing each other. And though I have the best parents in the world and tell them most things, they didn't even know he existed until we'd been e-mailing each other for several months. So no I'm not public about the CCers I talk to outside of CC, but I'd consider letting you all know if I became engaged whether it was to someone on CC or not. But I'm about as interested in getting a date as Lynx is so don't worry, there's very little chance of that happening.

The only way that could happen is if I met someone who also happened to have a CC account, and then probably not because no one would care lol.

I don't think I'd be dating someone who'd make a big deal out of whether to announce it on CC or not. I mean, I would let my CC friends know personally (as personal as online can get) but I don't necessarily have to make a thread about it.

I know someone here who dated another CC'er and it caused problems. People actually de-friended them after the announcement and after the break up one of them simply couldn't bring themeselves to come back. Tried but couldn't. Based on this observation answer would be no.

I will keep my dating life in general private as long as I can. Being public with it before did not work for me. It's nice to get encouragement from others about your relationship and it is good to share your excitement but when things go wrong, its not easy to answer questions without making the other person or yourself look bad.
