Never take the "descriptions" of what the life of Christ looks like when He is manifesting in and through us and turn them into as "commandments" to keep "in order" to obtain or maintain salvation as in being joined as one spirit with the Lord.

Jesus and Paul described what the true life of Christ is like when He is manifesting His life in us but works-based belief systems take these descriptions and turn them into " you must do these things in order to remain saved." That is not the gospel of the grace of God in Christ's finished work on the cross.

We are learning how to live by the life of Another in us and only the accurate preaching and teaching of Christ Himself which is the gospel message will provide the proper nutrients for us to grow in Him as we ought.

We save ourselves by believing and being born again.
John 3 1-21

Peter was born again, do you think He would contradict Jesus.

The phrase to save ourselves is connected to line 38.

He is clearly teaching to believe on the work of Jesus, how else could we save ourselves?

Your misreading, once again, nullifies the work of the cross completely

I'm not saying Peter's teaching a works gospel. I'm asking YOU and everybody else to explain how it is that Peter can say, "save yourselves" in a 'salvation by grace apart from works' altar call and that not mean you earn your own salvation. If you can do that then you will understand how works are required in salvation and those works not earn salvation.

"38Peter replied, “Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. 39The promise is for you and your children and for all who are far off—for all whom the Lord our God will call.”
40With many other words he warned them; and he pleaded with them, “Save yourselves from this corrupt generation.” " (Acts 2:38-40 NIV)

So explain it. How is it that Peter is teaching salvation by grace through faith apart from works, which he surely is, yet tells the people to 'save yourselves'? Explain that, then you will finally understand how works have to be a part of salvation without those works earning that salvation. Can you do it?

hi! i suspect it has something to do with the Greek Text, and the way it's translated in the NIV (and other English translations). many translations render it "be saved", due to the tense and voice of the verb, just as it's used in John 5:34, as follows:

"Even though I do not accept human testimony, I say these things so that you may be saved."

funny thing, same verb expressed the same way in Greek, but none of the translators render it "save yourselves" there?

The promises of God are trustworthy and sure to His children; "the providence of God can change His heart cannot."

I have heard about the glory coming bringing healing vision, but never knew who it was that had it. Thank you for posting this.

Its an interesting thought that we could be going through the separation of sheep and goats now. I feel this could well be true. The darkness is increasing and perversion is of a degree close to Noah's time if not worse. And saints are waking up. This current move of God is actually called the Great Awakening.

Ive located Mark Barclay but the link in the post is inactive. Again, thank you stillness.
1. Kenneth Hagin is a false teacher, preacher, & prophet. God's servants know this is so.

2. It's ironic the Great Falling Away is labeled by the blind as the Great Awakening.
[/QUOTE]

This has nothing to do with Kenneth Hagin. You didn't read it did you? Look up Mark Barclay. A Holiness declarer. And I agree.

~Do you still not understand that works are only 'required' in salvation because they are the expected and obligatory outcome of having faith

What I understand is that with love there is no obligation. Love does what love does because it's love. :)

This morning at 4 am ish...I heard this and posted it somewhere. Just sit at His feet and the serving will come naturally.

It's the same with the works of Holy Spirit. Only they are supernaturally natural.

I think you are thinking of the natural man too much and doing good deeds. Even the unbelievers have love but with a selfish motive of receiving the same back. Agape is not so.

Now if that is what you are saying too, then I have misunderstood you. Trouble is though for me, is why would I?
I do not think they understand, When you do something out of obligation, and not out of love, You have failed to be christlike.

Christ did all things out of love, not a sense of duty or obligation.

When you love people. no matter what you do, it is out of love, not out of obligation. You do dnot even question what you or doing, You just do it..

That is the rest Christ promised.

He said to save yourself from this wicked generation.

Not to save yourself from the penalty off your sins.

we should be focused on what the difference between the two are.

The Judgment seat of Christ, or Bema seat of Christ, is for reward not punishment. It is a picture of an athlete stepping up to receive his or her reward - whether good or bad - there is no condemnation for those who are in Christ

"For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, so that each of us may receive what is due us for the things done while in the body, whether good or bad." 2Cor5:10
Hi TruthTalk...These are nice little gems i like picking up as i am learning God`s word...I know there is no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, but i never knew yet or understood about the Judgement seat, is that where our rewards we will be of gold or silver, and the hay and stubble will be burnt:confused:...xox...

And Jesus is the judge, not standing in for us, during this Judgement.....and nobody has suggested there is condemnation in Jesus, ever...

the Parable of the talents and Mina's is all about the judgement seat of Christ and I will suggest there will be many there that will find out he never intended for your rest to be passively doing nothing...If you are not increasing the kingdom[bearing fruit]and just stay passive and bury your talent this Judgment seat is not going to make you feel all grace filled and lovey dovey....
Once again you misunderstand what we who hold to the works of Jesus are saying Meggido.

We brag on Him not on self. That does not mean that we passively sit and do nothing. We sit down with Him in the heavenlies in His victorious resurrected life, and do as He ordains for us. Those works He intended before creation began.

Now there are various degrees yet of understanding. Offense however, will not draw anyone to what one is preaching. An offended man is hard to win, true? Seems to me I read that somewhere.

if only the Lord Jesus lives forever, has a permanent priesthood and is able to save to the uttermost those who come to God through Him.

if only he would lose none of those the Father gives Him.

oh... wait... ! ;)
Now, you just stop it with those pesky facts and belief in God's salvation! ;) :D

The Lord is most seen in the true believer as they walk in His truth, as they obey His commands. Jesus said if we love Him we will obey His commands.

This is the Jesus-based belief system and is the true gospel of grace. The gospel of grace empowers the believer to obey the righteous requirements of the law.

That's when the world sees Christ and when we see Christ in one another. The Holy Spirit brings life to the words of God and they become alive in us and grow fruit and more fruit and abundant fruit. Hallelujah!

It's all of God's grace and not our own works. Man's works are not God's work. So if you see God's glory revealed in the heart of the believer, it's because that person is obedient to the Lord and works with God's grace through obedience.

Love is a beautiful fruit which does occur as a child to who is under the wings of the father. Think about this sister how upset was you when you lost your true friend who you opened up to with all your heart and protected and fighted for and cried with and shared all your upset with and shared theres.. Tell me sister where does this love come from ? please answer me sister coz i had all this taken away from me.. as a child...but i still carried on loving..
It has to come from God Jim. I had a "friend" who spoke evil of me to my late husband. This was the one who was an alcoholic, and womanizer, and we did end up divorced. I can't say though that I didn't have my share in the divorce too. Bitterness forms and is hard to live with. I can see that now.

Anyhow, when I heard what was said, I started to pray for her. I didn't really like her at the time let alone love her. But, she wanted a baby and was having a really hard time conceiving. So I was praying the Lord would give her a baby. And He did. Now I can't say it was because I prayed. The testing was for me, not her.

The only way I could do this was reading it was in the Word to pray for our enemies...so that was raw obedience, but when she had the baby...it became pleasurable to me seeing the results of faith. Or at least it could of been. :) Built my faith tremendously.

So pray for whatever it is that has hurt you Jim. Whoever...bless them and ask good for them.

I heard a story that a woman baked a cake for another woman who was having an affair with her husband. That stopped the affair. :)

Hi my friend Jimbo.
Your post has touched me. I fully empathise with your last sentence cause I have been there as well.
I still carry some of that baggage, not in terms of loving as such but allowing myself to be loved.

Putting up barriers and being guarded.
Love is intrinsic to our nature and when we have robbed of it, it is difficult to receive it.

However knowing where we are coming from and working through the pain and allowing the ultimate lover of our souls to heal us we ultimately seek to love others. Probably because we don't want them to suffer like we have.

And that's the grace of God in us.
Love our brothers, love our neighbours and even love our enemies.

God bless you Jimbo and I pray your love for others grows and grows and mine as well

How should we view Commentaries?

I personally love to read from commentaries and have about 1/2 dozen or so that I regularly view on some subject.

There is an inherent problem with going by commentaries to determine truth - they can be giving out what their denomination has taught them in the past and so we "could be" in another church tradition type of situation being perpetuated.

For example - some in the Pentecostal religion believe that true Christians born from above can lose salvation as in being joined as one spirit with the Lord and that the Father sends His beloved children to hell, so all commentaries that " go with this belief" are then cited as being "legitimate sources of truth
".

But in reality - they are just expressing their own religious views on a passage.

Commentaries are basically what the author himself thinks about a passage or certain doctrine which is absolutely fine. I find that I get a part from one and a part from a different commentary and the Spirit of God uses them all in some aspect to reveal what He is speaking to me about.
This man doesn't trust commentaries, but he quotes from hypergrace web sites.

You want to trust what he posts?

and what if the believer refuses or is that not going to happen to a true believer ?
