Jesus is like the Nehushtan, and if you recall Gods people were in error for worshipping it.

Because While it is understandable how an item which brought miraculous healing could become an object of worship, it was still blatant disobedience to God’s commands (Exodus 20:4–5). The bronze serpent was God’s method of deliverance during the incident recorded in Number 21
Nehushtan should be a powerful reminder to us all that even good things—and good people—can become idols in our lives. Our praise, worship, and adoration are to be directed to God alone. Nothing else, regardless of its amazing history, is worthy.

For context:

Numbers 21:4-8
[SUP]4 [/SUP]They traveled from Mount Hor along the route to the Red Sea,[SUP][c][/SUP] to go around Edom. But the people grew impatient on the way; [SUP]5 [/SUP]they spoke against God and against Moses, and said, “Why have you brought us up out of Egypt to die in the wilderness? There is no bread! There is no water! And we detest this miserable food!”

[SUP]6 [/SUP]Then the Lord sent venomous snakes among them; they bit the people and many Israelites died. [SUP]7 [/SUP]The people came to Moses and said, “We sinned when we spoke against the Lord and against you. Pray that the Lord will take the snakes away from us.” So Moses prayed for the people.
[SUP]8 [/SUP]The Lord said to Moses, “Make a snake and put it up on a pole; anyone who is bitten can look at it and live.” [SUP]9 [/SUP]So Moses made a bronze snake and put it up on a pole. Then when anyone was bitten by a snake and looked at the bronze snake, they lived.

2 Kings 18:4 He removed the high places, smashed the sacred stones and cut down the Asherah poles. He broke into pieces the bronze snake Moses had made, for up to that time the Israelites had been burning incense to it. (It was called Nehushtan.)

John 3:14 Just as Moses lifted up the snake in the wilderness, so the Son of Man must be lifted up, (all NIV)

You are quite correct. As long as the Brazen Serpent was a symbol of God's grace, and prefigured Christ on the Cross, lifted up, and to be gazed upon by faith, it was a source of healing. The minute that serpent became Nehushtan, and an idol to worshiped, that became a perversion and idolatry.

Since God was working in the midst of Israel throughout their history, the Brazen Serpent could have been a test -- would Israel worship the one and only true invisible God, or would Israel resort to idolatry? And of course their history ever since their departure from Egypt was a history of idolatrous worship.

Why is the serpent to be shunned and destroyed, Because it represents Satan himself. Indeed the Bible describes the Devil thus: And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him. (Rev 12:9).

It is significant that snake worship pervaded the whole world, including ancient Mesopotamia, ancient Egypt, ancient Greece, ancient Rome, North America, Meso America, South America, India, China, Cambodia, Nepal, Korea, all of Africa, Haiti, Australia, etc. Satan has always coveted the worship which rightly belongs to God alone, and the day is coming when he will be worshiped worldwide (but only for a season). See Revelation 13.

G'day love - I think ye are a wee bit confused - you ain't the first or the last..

John 5:21 For just as the Father raises the dead and gives them life, even so the Son gives life to whom he is pleased to give it.

John 5:22 "For not even the Father judges anyone, but He has given all judgment to the Son

John 5:23 so that all will honor the Son even as they honor the Father.
He who does not honor the Son does not honor the Father who sent Him.

Because Jesus is not only claiming equality with the Father he stating that to worship the son is to worship the Father, who NO "man" has seen or Will see.

The Messiah/The Shepard
Of course Jesus is the Messiah as well as the Shepherd of His sheep. But that does not mean that He is NOT God. He is God the Son, or God manifest in the flesh (1 Tim 3:16), or God the Word (John 1:1; 1 John 5:7 KJV).

as much as I appreciate you putting forth effort in quoting so many scriptures, you particularly don't fathom,Matthew chp. 4 9-10
"And saith unto him,all these things will I give thee,if thou wilt fall down and worship me.
"Then saith Jesus unti him,Get thee hence,Satan:for it is written,Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God,and him only shalt thou serve.
Jesus telling satan that he will not bow to him for he is God,also you have overlooked seemingly,a distinct and helpful part of the entire chapter of matthew chp.4 confusing things for yourself,Matthew Chp 4. verses 5-7
"Then the devil taketh him up into the holy city, and setteth him on a pinnacle of the temple,"
"And saith unto him,If thou be the Son of God,cast thyself down:for it is written,He shall give his angels charge concerning thee:and in their hands they shall bear thee up,lest at any time thou dash thy foot against a stone."
"Jesus said unto him,It is written again,Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God."
referring to satan that he is God and won't be tempted by him even in a flesh form and showing his authority and wisdom evidently to satan.

It would be wrong to worship the snake statue that represented Christ, but it is not wrong to worship Christ because He is Deity (God) just as much as the Holy Spirit or the Father. The apostles worshipped Jesus in Matthew 28:17, and He did not correct them, because they were not wrong in doing so. "All the fullness of the Father is in the Son." That would include His God-ness.
