Sealed in Christ
Let us listen to Paul
Now it is God who makes both us and you stand firm in Christ. He anointed us, set his seal of ownership on us, and put his Spirit in our hearts as a deposit, guaranteeing what is to come.
2 Cor 1:21-22
Two things stand out here. God makes us stand firm in Christ.
The Holy Spirit in our hearts is our deposit
So here is the problem. Some have abandoned God, no longer are in Christ and are consumed
in sin and sinful behaviour.
If the seal is not removed, then these people are still in Christ, and still Holy with the Holy Temple
being defiled by their behaviour but God is not concerned, the Holy cannot be defiled.
Well obviously this is not true, and people can defile that which they have at first received.
Paul writes it like this
Some have in fact already turned away to follow Satan.
1 Tim 5:15
Are they now still in Christ and full of the Holy Spirit? I think not.
It is easy to see the upside in fellowship in communion with Christ, but not the downside.
And our sense of the spiritual union, is hard to define. What are we in Christ?
This is the mystery of spiritual communion. But it truth just as we can come to life, we
can also die. This is why branches can wither on the vine and die.
