In the OT? There are none that I know of. But Jesus himself said he would be in the heart of the earth for three days and three nights. I believe him.
Yet in the OT it is prophesied that He would suffer many things in His atoning work, Isaiah 53 and Jesus confirm that here in Luke 18:31-32

“Then He took the twelve aside and said to them, “Behold, we are going up to Jerusalem, and all things that are written by the prophets concerning the Son of Man will be accomplished.32 For He will be delivered to the Gentiles and will be mocked and insulted and spit upon”

But you do not believe this you keep going to your one Scripture Matthew 12:40, is that really looking at all the Scriptures where Jesus taught about what He was to suffer in His atoning work?

Yes. And we know from the words of Jesus in Mark and Matthew that he would be dead for three days and three nights.
Then why do you not post them? Because they teach that Jesus must suffer many things before the chief priests, elders, teachers of the Law and the Gentiles, be spit on, mocked, flogged, crixified and killed then He will rise to life. You do jnot post them because they do not sayd that Jesus will be in the Tomb for those 3 days.

Check Matt 12:40.
Brother why would you place all your doctrine in one Scripture that does not clearly say what you believe, when I have posted many Scriptures that says clearly what I believe?

That's where we disagree.[/QUOTEYes we do and to that point since you believe that Matthew 12:30 is the grave or Tomb, since you have not post any Scripture that says that Jesus would be in the Tomb for that time, yes you red it into the verse, but if it is the grave you have not explained Isaiah 53:9 speaking of the grave in His atoning work“And they made His grave with the wicked—but with the rich at His death”

I will ask you again, when was Jesus with the wicked in the grave?

Your mind is made up. So is mine. Time will tell. :)

God bless.
It is only made up on the Scriptutes that I posted, I also post in a post to someone else that if they posted Scriptures that said Jesus would be in the Tomb for the 3 days, that I would repent. They posted no Scriptures

(BTW, I did read all the scriptures you posted. I believe you are misunderstanding them.)

Okay, then please help me and explain what this Scripture is saying Matthew 20:18-19

“See, we are going up to Jerusalem. And the Son of Man will be delivered over to the chief priests and scribes, and they will condemn him to death19 and deliver him over to the Gentiles to be mocked and flogged and crucified, and he will be raised on the third day.”

Can you please explain what this is talking about and it chronology?

This is why we need to examine ALL the Scriptual evidence, rather than just isolate a single verse or lionf of similar verses, ALL the evidence. If we do the answer is there.

Interesting that you say that and that Studyman agrees with you since both of you hang your doctrine on one verse Matthew 12:40. I've posted atleast 12-15 protions of Scriptures if not more of Jesus' teacing on His atoning work, with OT prophesy. Also verses with Jesus saying everything that was written of what the Son of Man will suffer, then He gives a list of what He had to suffer to fulfill what was written or prophesied about Him and neither of you believe the words of Jesus about His atoning work.

As I mentioned I used to believe what you brothers believe but after reading all the Scriptures I posted, I realized that whatever "heart of the earth" means it is not 3days in the Tomb, because Jesus never taught that in all the Scriptures I posted on what He taught about His atoning work. So the only conclusion I can come to is that it is all that He would suffer at the hands of evil men and the Gentiles, because when Jesus clearly taught about His atoning work that is what He taught.

I will ask you as I asked Studyman can you please explain what Matthew 20:18-19 is teaching?

“See, we are going up to Jerusalem. And the Son of Man will be delivered over to the chief priests and scribes, and they will condemn him to death19 and deliver him over to the Gentiles to be mocked and flogged and crucified, and he will be raised on the third day.”

Since this is what Jesus taught about His atoning work before He suffered these things and after in Luke 24, please explain what this means because it must be what He meant by "heart of the earth" because it is all He taught about what the prophets wrote and prophesied about His atoning work or can you post Scripture that teaches this plainly about Him being in the Tomb for the 3 days and nights?

What is wrong with the scripture below:

"For just as Jonah was three days and three nights in the belly of the great fish, so will the Son of Man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth."

The order of events was that Jesus suffered at the hands of the Jewish leaders who handed him over to pilot where he was then crucified between 9am and 12pm. Then sometime between 12pm and 3pm he died and his spirit departed from his body and went down in Sheol/Hades to that place of comfort where Abraham and Lazarus were. After he had died Joseph of Arimathea was given permission to take his body and he put it in his own new tomb where his body lay for 3 days and 3 nights. On the evening of the third day before sunrise, the Lord resurrected fulfilling the scriptures.

What is it exactly that you are attempting to proclaim Johnny-B?

What I am saying is that Jesus overwhemly taught that He suffer many things in those 3 days and nights and He lists them when He teaches about His atoning work and they are what Isaiah prophsied in chapter 53. Jesus did say that what He would suffer would fulfill what was written and prophesied about His atoning work like He did in Matthew 20:18-19

“See, we are going up to Jerusalem. And the Son of Man will be delivered over to the chief priests and scribes, and they will condemn him to death
19 and deliver him over to the Gentiles to be mocked and flogged and crucified, and he will be raised on the third day.”

People assume that assume that Matthew 12:40means the grave or Tomb, but Jesus never teaches His disciples that He would be in the Tomb for that 72 hour period. He aways taught that He would suffer many things as He did in Matthew 20:18-19 and it is what the disciple said He taught them after His resurrection in Luke 24:18-21

“Then one of them, named Cleopas, answered him, “Are you the only visitor to Jerusalem who does not know the things that have happened there in these days?”

19 And he said to them, “What things?”

And they said to him, “Concerning Jesus of Nazareth, a man who was a prophet mighty in deed and word before God and all the people,20 and how our chief priests and rulers delivered him up to be condemned to death, and crucified him.21 But we had hoped that he was the one to redeem Israel. Yes, and besides all this, it is now the third day since these things happened.... 25 And he said to them, “O foolish ones, and slow of heart to believe all that the prophets have spoken!26 Was it not necessary that the Christ should suffer these things and enter into his glory?”27 And beginning with Moses and all the Prophets, he interpreted to them in all the Scriptures the things concerning himself....

44 Then he said to them, “These are my words that I spoke to you while I was still with you, that everything written about me in the Law of Moses and the Prophets and the Psalms must be fulfilled.”45 Then he opened their minds to understand the Scriptures,46 and said to them, “Thus it is written, that the Christ should suffer and on the third day rise from the dead,”

In this discussion do you read the disciples or Jesus saying anything about 3 days and nights in the Tomb? No, they both speak of Him suffering, one of the disciples even says "it's been three days since these things happened". So Jesus repeats what He taught them while He was with them, how what was written by the prophets about Him was necessary for Him to suffer what they wrote about Him. Then He say it was in the Law, the Prophets and the Psalms. With that we can look to all of these to see what His atoning work
entailed and not one of them has that He would be in the Tomb for 3 days and nights, but Isaiah lays out all that He would suffer in His atoning work and that is what Jesus taught His disciples.

So I take what Jesus clearly taught about all He would suffer in those 3 days and read what He suffer once He was delivered to the chief priest and elders and the Gentiles they all happened day and night, and the things they did to Him are what He taught and what Isaiah prophesied.
By those teaching of Jesus and the prophesy, "heart of the hearth" has to be what Jesus taught He would suffer, not the Tomb only, because He never taught the disciples about the Tomb and Isaiah 53:9 says "they made His grave with the wicked" and we know that Jesus was never in a grave with the wicked, so the term grave here has to mean something else other then the grave or the Tomb because verse 9 also says "and with a rich man in death" we know that this is talking about Jesus being buried in Joseph's Tomb a rich man from Arimathea. So it is very obvious that "grave" is not the Tomb. Also reading Isaiah we see that the Tomb is only a part of what Jesus had to suffer for the atonement of our sins.

There is one other interesting thing, when Jesus was handed over to Pilate it is the first time that a time frame is mentioned associated with Jesus. He was delievered to Pilate in the "morning" "early morning" both referring to at or before 6 A.M. and we know that the women came to the Tomb before 6 A.M. and it was empty. So with Jesus being handed over to Pilate before 6A.M. on Thursday, between those two 6A.M periods that is 72 hours or 3 days and nights.

Friend...what you are asking for and relying on are 'many scriptures all about what men will do to Jesus' which of course are true...but some of us believe the Words Jesus/Yahshua HIMSELF spoke as a final sign that this would show that HE PERSONALLY was resurrected on the Sabbath.
The jesus peddled by the roman church as having resurrected on sunday is a REPLACEMENT, a false christ we have been warned of Mat 24. The REAL Jesus told us not to be deceived and HE gave the sign of Jonah Mat 12v40.

I knew that was what you guys were trying to prove, but that is not what the Bible teaches.

Matthew 28:1--6 “Now after the Sabbath, toward the dawn of the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went to see the tomb.2 And behold, there was a great earthquake, for an angel of the Lord descended from heaven and came and rolled back the stone and sat on it.3 His appearance was like lightning, and his clothing white as snow.4 And for fear of him the guards trembled and became like dead men.5 But the angel said to the women, “Do not be afraid, for I know that you seek Jesus who was crucified.6 He is not here, for he has risen, as he said. Come, see the place where he lay.”

Mark 16:1-6 When the Sabbath was past, Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James, and Salome bought spices, so that they might go and anoint him.2 And very early on the first day of the week, when the sun had risen, they went to the tomb.3 And they were saying to one another, “Who will roll away the stone for us from the entrance of the tomb?”4 And looking up, they saw that the stone had been rolled back—it was very large.5 And entering the tomb, they saw a young man sitting on the right side, dressed in a white robe, and they were alarmed.6 And he said to them, “Do not be alarmed. You seek Jesus of Nazareth, who was crucified. He has risen; he is not here. See the place where they laid him.”

Luke 24:1-7 “But on the first day of the week, at early dawn, they went to the tomb, taking the spices they had prepared.2 And they found the stone rolled away from the tomb,3 but when they went in they did not find the body of the Lord Jesus.4 While they were perplexed about this, behold, two men stood by them in dazzling apparel.5 And as they were frightened and bowed their faces to the ground, the men said to them, “Why do you seek the living among the dead?6 He is not here, but has risen. Remember how he told you, while he was still in Galilee,7 that the Son of Man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men and be crucified and on the third day rise.”

John 20:1
“Now on the first day of the week Mary Magdalene came to the tomb early, while it was still dark, and saw that the stone had been taken away from the tomb.”

Matthew and Mark both say the Sabbath was over when they came to the Tomb, Luke and John say on the first day of the week which is Sunday. Can you provide the Scriptures where Jesus taught that He would riseon the Sabbath?

Please make your case with Scripture for your doctrine of a Sabbath resurrection.

Also the first century Church meet on the first day of the week.

Acts 20:7 “On the first day of the week, when we were gathered together to break bread, Paul talked with them, intending to depart on the next day, and he prolonged his speech until midnight.”

I Corinthians 16:1-2 Now concerning the collection for the saints: as I directed the churches of Galatia, so you also are to do.2 On the first day of every week, each of you is to put something aside and store it up, as he may prosper, so that there will be no collecting when I come.

In Acts 20 we see that they broke bread on the first day of the week and Paul preached for a long time. Paul instucts the Corinthians when they take the collection for the saints, on the first day of every week to set aside and store up something so that when he come there is no extra collection. So Paul broke bread which is the Church service.

Acts 2:42
“And they devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching and the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers.”

Paul rebukes the Corintians about the Lord's supper or the braking of bread, because they were turning it into a feast.

I Corinthians 11:20-22 “When you come together, it is not the Lord's supper that you eat.21 For in eating, each one goes ahead with his own meal. One goes hungry, another gets drunk.22 What! Do you not have houses to eat and drink in? Or do you despise the church of God and humiliate those who have nothing? What shall I say to you? Shall I commend you in this? No, I will not.”

The Church came together on the first day of the week, Paul evangelized on the Sabbath in the synagogues, but the Church did not meet in the synagogues on the Sabbath, they meet on the first day of the week. You are right about one thing and that is the RCC did change the first day of the week's name to Sunday, but the Church never meet on the Sabbath and no one can keep the Sabbath, because there is no priesthood of Aaron's sons or a Temple to make the Sabbath offerings in.

For it was fitting that we should have such a High Priest – kind, innocent, undefiled, having been separated from sinners, and exalted above the heavens, who does not need, as those high priests, to offer up slaughter offerings day by day, first for His own sins and then for those of the people, for this He did once for all when He offered up Himself. WIth that said this thread is about

[h=2]When was the Messiah put in the grave? and when did He resurrect?[/h]
Changing the subject does not alter what day He resurrected.

Oh Marc....don't you believe that Thursday was a 'high day/sabbath Joh 19v31 and no work was allowed....it started the moment Jesus was entombed wednesday sunset...no time then either. There was only friday and it took all day for the women to do what they had to do. They bought spices and returned to prepare them...as scripture says....when the sabbath/high day (Thursday) was past.
Do you not believe in a Wednesday crucifixion and a sabbath resurrection ? It is very fitting that the Son of God should rise on God's Holy day !
I do Indeed! That was a typo. I meant to type Tuesday.
I'm sorry Marc, as I see it the women could not have bought and prepared spices on a Tuesday because they 'rested the next day 'as per Commandment/sabbath and went to the tomb early following morning/sunday.
that is just as it falls into place...why have you a problem with friday being the day when the spices were prepared ?
I must be loosing my edge as I age! I did indeed mean Thursday! Supposing a Thursday Crucifixion There would have been ample time to purchase spices before the Levitical Sabbath commenced at sundown and prepared on Saturday after sundown.

If Jesus were Crucified on Thursday, Friday would have been the Levitical Sabbath; and Saturday the 7th day Sabbath.

Sunday, Firstfruits, would then have been the THIRD day; thus fulfilling all prophetic preconditions.

Another possible reading allows the time between entombment on Thursday and Sundown Thursday to fulfill the first day; and Saturday evening to fulfill the third night; will still allowing Sunday to be considered the third day having begun at the previous sundown. This reading satisfies both 3Days and 3 nights and rising on the third day.

Even if they had the spices and oil the guards were guarding the tomb, they could not have entered until the guards broke watch.

Mat 27:59-66, “And having taken the body, Yosĕph wrapped it in clean linen, and laid it in his new tomb which he had hewn out of the rock. And he rolled a large stone against the door of the tomb, and went away. And Miryam from Maḡdala was there, and the other Miryam, sitting opposite the tomb. On the next day, which was after the preparation, the chief priests and Pharisees gathered together to Pilate, saying, “Master, we remember, while He was still alive, how that deceiver said, ‘After three days I am raised. Command, then, that the tomb be safeguarded until the third day, lest His disciples come by night and steal Him away, and should say to the people, ‘He was raised from the dead.’ And the last deception shall be worse than the first. So Pilate said to them, “You have a watch, go, safeguard it as you know how. And they went and safeguarded the tomb, sealing the stone and setting the watch.”

Mat 28:1-15, “1, "But late in the sabbath, as it was dawning into day one of the week, Miryam from Maḡdala and the other Miryam came to see the tomb. 2, "And see, there was a great earthquake, for a messenger of יהוה came down out of heaven, and came and rolled back the stone from the door, and sat on it. 3, "And his appearance was like lightning, and his garments as white as snow. 28:4, "And the guards trembled for fear of him, and became like dead men. 5, "And the messenger responding, said to the women, “Do not be afraid, for I know that you seek יהושע who was impaled. 6, "“He is not here, for He was raised, as He said. See, I have told you. 8, "And they left the tomb quickly, with fear and great joy, and ran to report to His taught ones. 9, "And as they were going to report to His taught ones, see, יהושע met them, saying, “Greetings!” And they came and held Him by the feet and did bow to Him. 10, "Then יהושע said to them, “Do not be afraid. Go, report to My brothers, to go to Galil, and they shall see Me there. 11, "And while they were going, see, some of the guards having gone into the city, reported to the chief priests all that took place. 12, "And when they had come together with the elders and taken counsel, they gave enough silver to the soldiers, 13, "saying, “Say that His taught ones came at night and stole Him away while we slept. 14, "“And if this should be reported to the governor, we shall win him over and keep you out of trouble. 15, "And having taken the silver they did as they were instructed. And this account was widely spread among the Yehuḏim, to this day.”

Sunday, Firstfruits, would then have been the THIRD day; thus fulfilling all prophetic preconditions.
FirstFruits is a presenting to YHWH not a resurrection:

Leviticus 23:10-12, “to the children of Yisra’ĕl, and you shall say to them, ‘When you come into the land which I give you, and shall reap its harvest, then you shall bring a sheaf of the first-fruits of your harvest to the priest. And he shall wave the sheaf before יהוה, for your acceptance. On the morrow after the Sabbath the priest waves it. And on that day when you wave the sheaf, you shall prepare a male lamb a year old, a perfect one, as an ascending offering to יהוה.”

In the Fest of First-Fruits the Priest “On the morrow after the Sabbath the priest waves it

That is why when the women came to the tomb;

John 20:1, “And on the first day of the week Miryam from Maḡdala came early to the tomb, while it was still dark, and saw that the stone had been removed from the tomb.”

Yahshua did not let Himself be touched;

John 20:17, "יהושע said to her, “Do not touch Me, for I have not yet ascended to My Father. But go to My brothers and say to them, ‘I am ascending to My Father and your Father, and to My Strength and your Strength.”

He had not yet ascended to YHWH to present Himself as the First-Fruits to YHWH;

Leviticus 23:10-12, “...the first-fruits of your harvest to the priest. And he shall wave the sheaf before יהוה, for your acceptance...a male lamb a year old, a perfect one, as an ascending offering to יהוה.”

Ephesians 4:9-10, “But what does “He went up” mean, except that He also first went down into the lower parts of the earth? He who went down is also the One who went up far above all the heavens, to fulfill.”

John 3:10-13, "יהושע answered and said to him, “Are you the teacher of Yisra’yl, and do not know this? Truly, truly, I say to you, We speak what We know and witness what We have seen, and you do not receive Our witness. If you do not believe when I spoke to you about earthly matters, how are you going to believe when I speak to you about the heavenly matters? And no one has gone up into the heaven except He who came down from the heaven – the Son of Aḏam.”

I just want to show the root word here because many transslations have it "burnt"

Thank you, and Amen! :) I have long stood for the crucifixion being on a Wednesday. I must admit it can get quite confusing when the gospel writers frame their witness using different methods of timekeeping. A comprehensive image comes in handy at such times :D

Yes, and by Sir Robert Anderson's book, we can understand that Jesus rode into Jerusalem(April 6, 32AD) on that faithful Sunday, 4 days prior to His death.

For some reason there seems to be a horrible mix-up with posts between JohnnyB and myself...no idea how that happened...and his posts are coming up under my name....technology gone berserk.

It is not me speaking against the 'sabbath-resurrection or saying all the things Johnny is saying...please scroll back a few posts and you will see the error.

NOW the error is even between you and Johnny...something is badly wrong.
