The three days and nights are not literal twenty four hour days. Part of a day is taken as a whole day and night. An example of this an be seen in our judicial system. If a person is convicted and sentenced in court at 11am for example the day of the conviction is treated as a whole day not a bit of one. The same applied to days and nights in first century Judea.
How many times has it been said...and is written :1Cor 15v3....how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures v4 and that he was buried and that he rose again the 3rd day according to the scriptures. Scripture tells us that there are 12 hours in a day and 12 hours in a night.....it says nothing about bits and parts here and there...that is all human reasoning which seemingly you value more than scripture....'nuff said !

Interesting and very convincing evidence! Except, my understanding is that the Jews considered any part of a day, even an hour, a "day." In fact, an Orthodox Jew was the one who told me this!

I am not going to comment anymore but pray and re-read. And, I will probably still observe the same days, at least with as regards to the church I attend. So, are we to celebrate "Good Wednesday, instead?" Or just the Resurrection?
Your comment about the word day is present in English as well. Context tells us how long of a time the word means. It can mean anything from a point in time of a day to an extended period of time. In that day the Romans ruled. That is centuries. We are active during the day implies daylight. Etc.

However according to YHWH and Yahshua:

John 11:9-10, " יהושע/Yahshua answered, “Are there not twelve hours in the day? If anyone walks in the day, he does not stumble, because he sees the light of this world. But if anyone walks in the night, he stumbles, because the light is not in him.”

Berĕshith/Genesis 1:5, " And Yah called the light ‘day’ and the darkness He called ‘night.’ And there came to be evening and there came to be morning, the first day."

Exodus 12:18, "In the first month, on the fourteenth day of the month, in the evening, you shall eat unleavened bread until the twenty-first day of the month in the evening."

Leviticus 23:32, "It is a Sabbath of rest to you, and you shall afflict your beings. On the ninth day of the month at evening, from evening to evening, you observe your Sabbath.”
However judicial and Jewsish time reckoning are not YHWH's time reckoning. THe pharisees made their own way in that any part of a day was considered a day so they could "honor" Sabbath for a part of the day and have "fulfilled their duties"

The Encyclopedia Judaica, Day;

In Jewish communal life part of a day is at times reckoned as one day; e.g., the day of the funeral, even when the latter takes place late in the afternoon, is counted as the first of the seven days of mourning; a short time in the morning of the seventh day is counted as the seventh day; circumcision takes place on the eighth day, even though of the first day only a few minutes remained after the birth of the child, these being counted as one day. Again, a man who hears of a vow made by his wife or his daughter, and desires to cancel the vow, must do so on the same day on which he hears of it, as otherwise the protest has no effect; even if the hearing takes place a little time before night, the annulment must be done within that little time.

Jewish Encyclopedia, DAY (Hebrew, "yom");

In the Bible, the season of light (Gen. i. 5), lasting "from dawn [lit. "the rising of the morning"] to the coming forth of the stars" (Neh. iv. 15, 17). The term "day" is used also to denote a period of twenty-four hours (Ex. xxi. 21). The day is reckoned from evening to evening—i.e., night and day—except in reference to sacrifices, where daytime and the night following constitute one day (Lev. vii. 15; see Calendar). "The day" denotes: (a) Day of the Lord; (b) the Day of Atonement; (c) the treatise of the Mishnah that contains the laws concerning the Day of Atonement (See Yoma and Sabbath).

This is not Scriptually correct:

"evening" is word # H6153. ereb - Strong's Concordance: ereb: evening, Original Word: עָ֫רֶב, Part of Speech: Noun Masculine, Transliteration: ereb, Phonetic Spelling: (eh'-reb), Short Definition: evening

Hebrew Word Study (Transliteration-Pronunciation Etymology & Grammar) 1) evening, night, sunset, 1a) evening, sunset, 1b) night

I suggest you look up the phrase" in that day" in the Bible and explain how all of them are either 12 or 24 hours. Have fun. Obviously language quirks are not your long suit. We use them without thinking about them

How does that apply here?

Yes "in that day" is meaning in that time or era etc. But to apply lt to 3 days and 3 nights would be miss application, as He did not say "in those 3 days". That is not what is being talked about here. Yahshua/Jesus simply said 3 days and 3 nights. So what a day is would apply in this instance.

I was pointing out the flaw in your list of definitions. You were implying that day only meant 12 or 24 hours. Hebrew and English both have the same issue with the word day. Greek probably as well.

"day" and "in that day" are not the same thing...

A day is defined by the Creator of the day, and is clearly shown in Scripture.

Does anyone on this forum believe that Jesus was put to death on Friday, and resurrected before sunrise on Sunday? What do those those of you who believe that was the timing situation think the relevant scripture meant where it said that DAY (that Sabbath) was a "high day?"

English Standard Version
Since it was the day of Preparation, and so that the bodies would not remain on the cross on the Sabbath (for that Sabbath was a high day), the Jews asked Pilate that their legs might be broken and that they might be taken away.

Greetings Inquistor,

Personally, neither the day of the week that Jesus was crucified on nor when he rose has ever been a concern for me. What is important is that took place. What I do know is that there were two Sabbaths back to back. One was the feast of unleavened bread Sabbath and the other was the regular seventh day Sabbath. Jesus was crucified several hours prior to sunset which would have counted as day 1 with the Sabbath of unleavened bread and the Passover beginning at sunset. For regarding the feast of unleavened bread, on the first day they were to do no work and were to hold a sacred assembly and the same for the seventh day of the feast, which means that the women would have waited for both Sabbath's to pass back to back, which ended at sunset initiating night 3, where they waited until early morning ending the third night.

It is not 'language that has a problem with 'timing'...it is PEOPLE who will insist on 'meddling with it to their own 'usage of it.
When scripture states '3 days and 3 nights it refers to 12 hour periods as quoted in Joh 11. Do you think God is incapable of giving us more 'detail if it is necessary ?
Taken scripture as it is written gives us the 'perfect SABBATH resurrection time'....but because it DISagrees with PEOPLE's timing they reject it...and wanting to be more right than GOD - HE will reject them come judgement day !
They will hear the words : depart from me, I never knew you ! they had been stubbornly following a FALSE jesus resurrected on sunday in opposition to scripture the written Word of God !

Friend, it should be of the utmost 'concern for every Christian WHICH Jesus they follow !
The real authentic Jesus/Yashua was concered enough to WARN us of false christs that would deceive many !!! Mat 24....take heed you are not one of them...NOW is the time to repent and be corrected.
Most trad christians think that will never be necessare for them...and they will have no excuse !

Our most precious Savior was placed in the tomb of a wealthy man just before dusk , the dusk of a Sabbath.

Whether it was the Seventh Day or a Special Sabbath, I do not know.

The only truly important truth for me and for you is that He rose again just for us.

I know He was enterred for three days and three nights, there is no secret to this, nor is there any secret manner to count them, three days and three nights.

All blessings from our Maker in Yeshua, amen.

Hello Beta,

Not knowing what day of the week (Wed, thur, Fri) is not eternal life threatening. Knowing or not knowing what day of the week the Lord was buried on does not constitute a false teacher. If you're believing that the Lord was crucified, buried and resurrected, then you're believing the gospel. Regarding this issue I need no repentance, for I believe that Jesus was in the heart of the earth three days and three nights as he claimed.

And why wouldn't you know if after sunset was a special day or not when all scripture points to a 'high day/the annual sabbath of unleavened bread Joh 19v31 ? how could it be the 'weekly sabbath on which the women rested when they had not yet bought and prepared the spices ?
Because there were 2 sabbaths that week there were also 2 preparation days, one before each sabbath.
There is no 'secret manner to reading or counting time but it is important to follow scripture in order to recognize the authentic Jesus and not be fobbed off with an imposter by ungodly men...which is what happened and gullible people continue to believe in.
People's 'eternal life depends on whether or not they know and follow the true Jesus ....or they will hear the words I never hnew you !

OK friend....if halve the truth is enough for you so be it...your choice !
(even in a court of law you have to attest to the 'whole truth....not part of it)
btw....not knowing is one thing....rejecting/denying is another....there is a difference.

Hello again Beta,

Just fyi, since Jesus died during the ninth hour, which is from 12pm to 3pm, they would have had plenty of time to buy spices before sunset.

Can you show us anywhere in scripture that says we need to know whether the Lord was put into the tomb on Tue, Wed or thur? What is important is knowing that he was buried and rose again on the third day.

Do you actually believe that at the Bema seat that the Lord is going to line people up and say "Ok, tell me what day of the week was I buried on and what day of the week did I resurrect? And it better be the correct day of the week because your eternal life depends on it!"

What makes you think buying and preparing spices could be done in a couple of hours ? In their time 'everything had to be done 'on foot or by hand...did they have cars or machinery to speed the process ?
I have worked in a 'Herbalist's and know from personal experience that it takes TIME to produce Lotions and Ointments from 'raw matereals that had to be 'ground to fine powder and heated very slowly or otherwise carefully prepared...so please don't make 'flippant assumptions that are totally UNworkable....and WE had modern Equipment to work with. People are so 'casual about things they know nothing about.

What you think that it couldn't? I would also remind you that, since Jesus died during the ninth hour, it would have been anywhere between 12pm and 3pm. Therefore, he could have died a 12:15, which would have left plenty of time before sunset to purchase spices. This is really not something that we should be arguing about.
