This is ridiculous -- that a moderator could be harassed, threatened, or stalked. Crazy.
That should not seem so crazy since you and I are the only saved ones here.

Okay. Then I have a complaint! At this stage of life, it is disconcerting to see a post written by a 17-year-old, then near the age-declaration is a tag that says the writer is a "senior member."

Bwahahaha!

Seriously, I am still getting used to this! :D

It does matter and as he said he's here often doing his job, which I believe is voluntary.

He doesn't have to respond to everything and everyone - he has a life.

Not all things have to be corrected either, some they choose to leave as they are. Seems they are running this place like a forum should be. There are many other forums where everywhere you turn mods are all over many people, editing posts, (and not for good reasons) banning those who have differing theologies, and much worse.

That seems quite short-sighted. Not trying to find fault either, just giving this some perspective.
Here in Burbank we have cops who do absolutely nothing. This past year I've watched violation after violation after violation performed right smack dab under the noses of BPD officers go 'unpunished'. What is the result of this? We have idiots who drive 100 mph down residential streets and who don't even slow down for stop signs because they know there's no consequence for violating the rules. So sure, Burbank has a police department, but for all intents and purposes there are no cops on the street and we live in near anarchy because of it.

Here at CC, we have moderators, but for all intents and purposes ya gotta do something Reeeeeeeeeally horrific to get their attention. And because of that we all know that 'running the stop signs' here is without consequence. Which is why it continues and grows.

I've had a few members here write and ask me if I was a mod a couple of times, and sometimes they even included a page-long list of concerns they had about other users or issues here on the site.

I've known a few people who are mods on various Christian sites, and it sure ain't easy. Some of them have even had users threaten their welfare, as well as the safety of their families.

Believe me, if I were ever a mod on any site, no one would ever know.

One of my top conditions would be absolute anonymity.
:)After reading the OP,what would absolute anonymity reveal?

We could try moderating ourselves.

I agree with you but this IS the Internet and like ugly said, think about what standard, abuse will be given notice to before using the report button.

I don't know if there still are, but there used to be anonymous moderators on this site with varying levels of authoritative powers, both in chat and in the forums.

I had contact with a couple of them, and a former member here used to post about it rather frequently, as he claimed to have been one of them as well.

Your cop illustration is moot, apples and oranges. You're using it to say the mods here do nothing. That's just not accurate.

You gotta do something really horrific to get noticed? That's a bad thing? Sounds like longsuffering to me.

Maybe they should pound the stuffing out of everyone for the smallest slight and ban people left and right? One slip up pal, and you're outta here!!! :D

But the thing is you're incorrect. Behind the scenes they take care of what goes on by giving infractions and warnings - things you don't see. It isn't true then that only the really horrific things get noticed.

The other issue is that OP's like this are really a plea to ban others they don't like while they turn a blind eye to the antics of those who espouse their false doctrines, and a blind eye is given to themselves by themselves as well. :)

MERRY CHRISTMAS MY FRIEND, TO ALL OF YOURS!

Reminds me of the time I answered a call at work from a woman who had called the wrong number and who started telling me she was having a problem with her implants. I quickly told her she had reached the wrong number. The shock was lessened when later I was told by others in the office that our number was very close to that of a local dentist. Yeah, not those kinds of implants. Get your minds out of the gutter. lol
I was at my desk in my factory job once and got a wrong number from a frantic mother who asked when her son was going to get out of jail. I told her soon as his bail was posted. I also advised her to hire a competent criminal defense attorney.

That's a little bit of an exaggeration, they do 100 on Glenoaks, 80 on Kenneth, but no more than 75 on residential streets. :p

Let me carry your analogy a little bit farther.

Lets say the cops were accused of impropriety, brutality, or misconduct by 90% of the persons they ticketed or accused of only ticketing blue cars because that cop doesn't like blue cars? Do you think cops might be less likely to write tickets if that were the case?

People who are not held to account for their actions become rude, mean and nasty to each other. Come spend a couple hours on the I5 and you'll agree. Or, spend a couple hours here in the BDF and you'll have to agree.

Hey I get it, you're trying to be a good cop, and you're vastly overworked and outnumbered. But the end result is the same - people here are rude, nasty and mean because they can get away with it.

Is it your fault? No.

Is the result the same? Yes.

I was just wondering. I see a lot of personal attacks and trolling being done by members and not much if anything being done about it.

Personally as a Christian we should expect the personal and physical attacks. So it is no big deal for me really.

The reason I bring it up is because many professing Christians are making accusations about one another, being condemning, antagonistically trolling, and calling one another names here. This is not something a Christian is suppose to do. If anything we are to kick the dust from our heals after the 2nd or 3rd admonition and depart.

If we find ourselves acting in such a manner are we loving?

If your intent is Love, do you not know that all that is seen is the words on the screen.

There is a time for rebuke. But is this the place when they can not see and feel the love behind it.

I tell you a truth. If they are hardhearted and stiff necked, the Love seen and felt will convert not the knowledge and wisdom.

Was Jesus "loving" when He threw the money changers out of the temple, and overturned their tables?

It happens. Imagine if someone followed you around the board, disagreeing with you and mocking you, but not breaking the rules. As a mod, what are you supposed to do with posters like that? Ban them? I was a mod on another board, and a small group of posters routinely mocked me for being a Christian. (It wasn't a Christian message board.) The final straw there was when they began mocking God just to get under my skin. I figured if my presence was causing that sort of behavior, well, hasta la vista to that place! :)

Jesus doesn't need defending, but He allows us our own individual 'limits' for ourselves
concerning how we feel/deal with Him...

our Heavenly Father uses/allows all kinds of ways/words to TEACH us about this 'fallen-world'
and how we must deal with it in HIS WAY...

it's definitely a daily 'challenge'...

I think the "mods" need a little mercy shown to them because they can only moderate what they're told to moderate.

Also, mods have way more authority in the chat rooms than the forums.

That's the reason why there's more mods in chat, & not in the forums.

Wouldn't everyone agree when someone's banned in the forums, it's by an Admin, & not a mod?

I agree with the Op. It's a problem.

Here at CC, we have moderators, but for all intents and purposes ya gotta do something Reeeeeeeeeally horrific to get their attention. And because of that we all know that 'running the stop signs' here is without consequence. Which is why it continues and grows.
I partially agree with this, because there's only some that rant, name call, & slander without consequence. Those that challenge them by their their own rules get banned. Nobody told me that. I saw it.

I have been told though about one thread that seems to have its own rules, and several have been banned in it because they challenged the 'owner' of the thread. We all know what thread that is, don't we?

As a matter of fact, go back through that same thread, and you'll see that more members have been banned in it than any 10 threads combined. Kinda sounds fishy, don't it?

Am I complaining? No, I am bringing it up because SOME think we're rehashing the same old stuff over and over in threads like these, so I'm giving them something different to think about.

I also agree with Oncefallen. He's in here waay more than anyone realizes. Just watch his posts. He replies within minutes of something he's interested in, signifying he's right here. Everyone should know he's almost always here, esp. in the evenings.

I don't know how often I have to correct this erroneous idea that people have come up with. I log into Christian Chat EVERY DAY with rare exception. At bare minimum I review the reported posts, but most commonly I am logged in for the bulk majority of the evening.
I hope you had a wonderful Christmas with your family, Oncefallen!

But. Butbutbut, I was a senior at 17. I would be graduating high school when I was 18, but 7 out of 9 months in my senior year, I was 17. lol

Burbank cops dealt with 15 rapes, 91 robberies, 108 Aggravated assaults, burglary, theft, and auto theft ranged around 275 incidents per month, and violent crime averaged 18 per month since the beginning of 2017, but they're just sitting on their butts watching speeders go by.

I'm going with what's really going on behind the scenes on this site is related, in that you're upset someone disagrees with you, while scammers are targeting vulnerable people. (I've seen that happen more than once, and, sure enough, the mods stopped it in half a day.)

You really do see life only as it affects you personally, don't you? And you really never notice when you don't slow down for stop signs either.
