Study...Scripture. That's what I do. You study man-made education on correcting God's word.

Btw, why do you study? None of your versions command it's reader to study.

So you think studying Greek and Hebrew is man made education? Well, I prefer to use the original languages. Quite simply. Because, that is the language that God used. Not 16th century early modern English. And many other "man-made" subjects I studied, like hermeneutics, and preaching, teaching, counselling, to say nothing of useful courses like Biblical backgrounds, and the history of revivals, and the history of Christianity, missions, etc etc, have all given me great depth in understanding the amazing effect of Christianity both on individuals, as well as the world!

As for "studying" in 2 Tim. 2:15, why do you think I use the word? Because I originally learned it in the KJV, of course! None the less, the actual Greek, speaks of being diligent, using persistent zeal, and to approve by examining or testing!

"σπούδασον σεαυτὸν δόκιμον παραστῆσαι τῷ θεῷ, ἐργάτην ἀνεπαίσχυντον, ὀρθοτομοῦντα τὸν λόγον τῆς ἀληθείας." 2 Tim. 2:15 Greek.

σπούασον- σπουδάζω to give diligence. The word contains the notion of persistent zeal

δόκιμον - δόκιμος - approved after examining or testing

παραστῆσαι - παρίστημι - stand along side of; to present. Complimentary infinitive to the main verb, "be diligent to present."

So, perhaps you are right, and I should not be quoting the KJV, which were not the actual words that God inspired Paul to write. Still, I think being diligent to present yourself, after testing or examining, means you have to study the word of God. I can't think of any other way you can actually learn the Bible, without studying it! JMHO, of course!

I do not think the KJV is the best version to use, but I agree it has had a profound effect on the world, and on me! Because, I take the command to study the Bible seriously. How about you John? It seems like you just study the likes of Ruckman and Riplinger, who were pretty misguided people, if there ever were! You really should seriously consider not studying all those man made articles and books by people who are just, well, people! Of course, I've never said we shouldn't study people. That was all you! Which makes you a special sort of hypocrite, doesn't it?

Because, no where in the KJV does it say the KJV is the "only" Bible. But, feel free to quote me the verse that says, "only read the KJV, because all the other modern versions are corrupted." I just can't find that in a Bible search! In fact, I can't find the KJV mentioned in the Bible at all!

If you read the letter of commission that James1 wrote to the translators (which is well preserved and readily available) you will see that the Translators were instructed to adhere to the 'Bishop's' Bible unless a glaring error needed to be corrected.

Such instructions leave little room for special inspiration.

The following set of “rules” had been prepared on behalf of church and state by Richard Bancroft, Bishop of London and high-church Anglican. “For the better ordering of the proceedings of the translators, his Majesty recommended the following rules to them, to be very carefully observed:--
“1. The ordinary Bible, read in the church, commonly called the Bishop’s Bible, to be followed, and as little altered as the original will permit.
“2. The names of the prophets and the holy writers, with the other names in the text, to be retained, as near as may be, according as they are vulgarly used.
“3. The old ecclesiastical words to be kept; as the word church, not to be translated congregation, &c.
“4. When any word hath divers significations, that to be kept which has been most commonly used by the most eminent fathers, being agreeable to the propriety of the place, and the analogy of the faith.
“5. The division of the chapters to be altered, either not at all, or as little as may be, if necessity so require.
“6. No marginal notes at all to be affixed, but only for the explanation of the Hebrew or Greek words, which cannot, without some circumlocution, so briefly and fitly be expressed in the text.
“7. Such quotations of places to be marginally set down, as shall serve for the fit references of one scripture to another.
“8. Every particular man of each company to take the same chapter of chapters; and having translated or amended them severally by himself, where he thinks good, all to meet together, to confer what they have done, and agree for their part what shall stand.
“9. As any one company hath dispatched any one book in this manner, they shall send it to the rest to be considered of seriously and judiciously: for his Majesty is very careful in this point.
“10. If any company, upon the review of the book so sent, shall doubt or differ upon any places, and therewithal to send their reasons; to which if they consent not, the difference to be compounded at the general meeting, which is to be the chief persons of each company, at the end of the work.
“11. When any place of special obscurity is doubted of, letters to be directly by authority to send to any learned in the land for his judgment in such a place.
“12. Letters to be sent from every bishop to the rest of the clergy, admonishing them of this translation in hand, and to move and charge as many as being skillful in the tongues, have taken pains in that kind, to send their particular observations to the company, either at Westminster, Cambridge, or Oxford, according as it was directed before the king’s letter to the archbishop.
“13. The directors in each company to be deans of Westminster and Chester, and the king’s professors in Hebrew and Greek in the two universities.
“14. These translations to be used when they agree better with the text than the Bishop’s Bible, viz. Tyndale’s, Coverdale’s, Matthew’s, Wilchurch’s,* Geneva.”

*By “Wilchurch” is meant the Great Bible, which was printed by Edward Wilchurch, one of King Henry VIII’s printers.

Here is a KJV-onlyist that I just stumbled upon on YouTube. I was looking for videos on Lordship Salvation, and this guy is opposed to the LS doctrine. Although I am personally on the fence where LS is concerned, I've found that those who oppose it, especially on YouTube, are often staunch KJV-onlyists. Concerning this guy, I found that out when he called translations such as the NIV and NLT "corrupt":

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c1dcD8L5tFA&t=539s

Also, he says that those who preach Lordship Salvation are unregenerate false prophets. I don't personally believe that.

2 Timothy 3:16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:

Do you believe all Scripture was given by inspiration of God or is given?

Did God inspire words and then lost them?

Did God inspire words and commanded to live by them and not preserve them for us?
Hi John 14:6
The post maybe late but I am prompted to do so...

While it is true that there is no “is” in the Greek text, the translation of English KJV and many other translations in English including the NIV, NASB, ESV, NLT, NET etc. have it. Greek verbal tenses has no bearing in English and with the absence of the Greek, we go to the context. Well, do the English word “is” of 2 Timothy 3:16 is necessary and theologically sound? Yes, because of the word “is” we have more sure words and guarantee that “All scriptures” if it is true scriptures is given to us by inspiration.

The fact is that the translators of the KJV did a good job using the word “is” in italic which is of honest report where many other English version were not in italics assuming it has a Greek text which we really don’t have. It is a total hypocrisy saying the KJV is in error because of the word “is” was not in the Greek.

God bless.

“And he made a molten sea, ten cubits from the one brim to the other: it was round all about, and his height was five cubits: and a line of thirty cubits did compass it round about. And under the brim of it round about there were knops compassing it, ten in a cubit, compassing the sea round about: the knops were cast in two rows, when it was cast.” (1 Kings 7:23-24)

Verse 23

molten” 15th occurrence in the KJB and the first occurrence of 15 in Pi is at position 314.

sea” 111th (37x3) occurrence in the KJB of this word

ten” 111th (37x3) occurrence and 106th verses in the KJB containing this word (111/106) The 12th (37 is the 12th prime) occurrence of 3 in Pi is at position 111 and the 1st occurrence of 106 in Pi is at position 1011 (337 x 3).

ten cubits” occurs 15 times in the KJB and the first occurrence of 15 in Pi is at position 314.

the other” 111th (37x3) verse in the Bible containing this phrase.

round” found 320 times in the KJB and position 320 in Pi contains the 22nd occurrence of 7 in Pi. (22/7 = 3.142..) The word “round” is found in 296 (37x8) verses of the Bible and exactly 37 times in the New Testament. It is found in 259 (37x7) verses of the Old Testament in 157 (157 is 37th prime) chapters and 157 x 2 = 314. Furthermore, position 320 in Pi counting from the decimal point is the 3rd occurrence of the number 74 (37 x 2) in Pi.

thirty cubits” 7th occurrence of this phrase in the Bible.

cubit*” 111th (37x3) (in phrase “thirty cubits”) occurrence in the KJB.

verse 24

round” 111th (37x3) occurrence (1st) in the KJB.

round about” 106th (1st) occurrence of this phrase in the Bible. (111/106)

round about” this phrase is found in 285 verses of the Bible and the 1st occurrence of 360 (degrees in a circle) in Pi is at position 285. The 5th occurrence of 285 in Pi its at position 3141 counting from the decimal point.

ten” 112th (7x16) occurrence of this word in the Bible.

knop*” 12th (37 is the 12th prime) verse in the Bible containing the words “knop” or “knops” and 30 x 10 = 300 (the number of knops around the circumference of the “sea”). The 3rd occurrence of 37 in Pi (37x3 = 111) occurs at position 300 counting from the decimal point.

cubit” 22nd occurrence and the 15th verse containing this word in the Bible. (the “ten in a cubit” is referring to the “thirty cubits of verse 23 thus the number 7 and 22 are connected 22/7 = 3.142…). The 1st occurrence of the number 15 in Pi is at position 314.

the sea” 74th (37x2) occurrence of this phrase in the Bible.

round” 112 (7x16) occurrence (2nd) of this word in the Bible.

cast” 73rd occurrence (1st) in the Bible.

two” 411th (137 x 3) occurrence in the Bible and the 337th verse containing this word.

cast” 74th (37x2) occurrence in the Bible.

The ratio (111/106) shows up in the “ten” of verse 23 which is referring to the diameter of the “sea” and again in verse 24 in the phrase “round about” which is referring to the “knops” around the circumference of the sea.

3 x 111/106 = 3.1415…

Therefore:

The circumference (30) times the ratio (111/6) divided by the diameter (10) yields the first 5 digits of Pi which are 3.1415.

You should study about idolatry.......especially as applied to an Anglican twist English translation/transliteration that was practically copied verbatim from previous English versions....
When James commissioned the 1611 translation; He instructed the translators to follow the Bishop's Bible as closely as possible except to correct errors. For beauty of language, no other version comes close. I an certainly not KJVO; but it is an excellent translation in most respects.

When anyone throws dirt on the King James Bible he is actually showing his contempt for the true Word of God. The above statement is "fake news" and pure baloney.

"It is he that sitteth upon the circle of the earth, and the inhabitants thereof areas grasshoppers; that stretcheth out the heavens as a curtain, and spreadeth them out as a tent to dwell in:" (Isaiah 40:22)

"sitteth" in this verse is the 22nd occurrence of this word in the King James Bible
"sitteth upon" in this verse is the 7th occurrence of this phrase in the King James Bible
"circle" only occurs once in the king James Bible

22/7 (3.142..) is a good approximation of PI

I haven't read through the 60 pages of this thread so excuse me if this has been mentioned before.
Has anyone brought up the "Pisseth against a wall" verse yet? ;)

Not that i am aware of. :) LOL
Hi, just so you know, I'm not making it up or trying to be profane or disrespectful.
It's just the idiomatic usage of the archaic King James English.

1 Samuel 25:34

For in very deed, as the Lord God of Israel liveth, which hath kept me back from hurting thee, except thou hadst hasted and come to meet me, surely there had not been left unto Nabal by the morning light any that pisseth against the wall.

So if it's "pure baloney" then can you demonstrate that there is no correlation between the KJV and earlier English versions?

By your first sentence, I might assume that you consider the KJV beyond criticism. That's called idolatry.

Let's examine the number PI:

3.1415926535 8979323846 2643383279 5028841971 6939937

Counting from the decimal point after the 3, we arrive at the first occurrence of the number 19 in PI which begins at the 37th position. The first occurrence of the number 37in PI occurs at the 46th position with the 7 occupying the 47th position. Also notice that the first occurrence of the number 46 occurs at the 19th position in PI, thus, creating a loop in PI that goes 19, 37, 46 and then back to 19. Let us examine these numbers in the King James Bible.

"manna" = 19 times KJB
"the Christ" = 19 times KJB
"bread" = 19 x 19 times in the KJB
"the words of the Lord" = 19 times in the KJB (any case)
"trust in the Lord" = 19 times in the KJB (any case)

"Saviour" = 37 times in the KJB (any case)
"crucified" = 37 times in the KJB
"corner" = 37 times in the KJB (see Matthew 21:42)
"the cup" = 37 times in the KJB (see Luke 22:20)
"ark of God" = 37 times in the KJB
"ark of the Lord" 37 times in the KJB (any case)
"his word" = 37 times in the KJB
"dew" = 37 times in the KJB (see Deuteronomy 32:2)
"the most High" 37 times in the OT (any case)

"Son of God" = 47 times in the KJB in 46 verses
"the bread" = 46 times in the KJB (see John 6:35)
"most holy" = 46 times in the KJB (see Leviticus 21:22)
"sanctified" = 46 times in the KJB (see Exodus 29:43)
"God said" = 46 times in the KJB

This not an exhaustive list

Hey Dino,

Though I agree the KJV is not "re-inspired", this particular line of reasoning doesn't constitute a valid argument to that end.

As you know, sometimes it's not at all obvious how to separate arguments that seem logically valid from arguments which actually are. This particular argument hinges on a closer look at the doctrine of inspiration, and how it does in fact allow for the author to draw from, or directly quote, a previous writer or speaker.

The better arguments I think are much more nuanced.

Take Care,
Max
