It's not a description of a denomination or anything. More like a type of Christian.
They are really into sign gifts -- speaking in tongues, healing, prophecy and stuff like that. That's part of it. They're also big into gesturing during church. You can spot them as the ones raising their hands during the worship part of the service. SOME of them are into dancing in the aisles during worship too.
Now some have taken it so far as barking and laughing uncontrollable. (And, that's hogwash, because there is no particularly good reason to start laughing to begin with, so it is controlled laughing hysterically.) Others are big into "slain in the spirit" when you fall down after being touched by a preacher. Now they have taken it to auras and cultish crap pretending it is Christ related. Personally, I think this is the fake-charismatic group.
I'm not charismatic (anymore), but I know quite a few who are believers. (And some who aren't.) So, nothing right or wrong about it. I really just take them as the animated part of the church. lol
I have been slain in the spirit.
Only once mind you. When it did happen I wasn't pushed down.
Funny thing was that being slain in the spirit seemed to be the norm and an experience that people wanted.
To be honest when I saw it week in week out.
On the night I went forward I wasn't seeking the experience, I just wanted prayer.
Myself I believe signs and gifts are still for us today.
But I would say when it goes beyond what we see in the N.T. church then it needs to questioned.
I remember after the Toronto movement seeing send weird stuff happening.
As you say, people barking like dogs, and I saw few also lifting an arm up in the air and saying "The Holy Spirit is coming down my arm"
People shaking uncontrollable or in tears I don't have an issue with. But if it's happening all the time, then I have to say I do.
I think we need to test in a sense what is happening in the church.
You mention dancing in the aisles.
Not sure if that's an issue for you.
Yet we know David danced before the Lord.
