Faith without works does not save. See our favorite parable, the parable of the merciful king in Matthew 18. The good works that this parable focuses on is forgiveness, see Matthew 6:15.
Hi benhur.

We can reverse your above quote.

Works without faith does not save either.
You talk about forgiveness.

Modern secular psychology has a similar steps program as AA, for forgiveness.
Steps to forgiveness.
The problem with this is, is that they just promote coping mechanisms.
So they do forgive in that they no longer hold it against the person, but coping mechanisms allways have to be in place.

So if one forgives but does not have faith are they saved?

To be honest I think the following.

I think God wants to go deeper.
He wants to heal the reasons for the pain that stops us forgiving.
Jesus came to set us free, not to give us coping mechanisms.

It's interesting before the parable of the unforgiving servant

Matthew 18:21-22
The Parable of the Unforgiving Servant
21 Then Peter came to Him and said, “Lord, how often shall my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? Up to seven times?”
22 Jesus said to him, “I do not say to you, up to seven times, but up to seventy times seven.

This has some signicance to the O.T.

Amos 1:3
Judgment on the Nations
3 Thus says the Lord:
“For three transgressions of Damascus, and for four,
I will not turn away its punishment,
Because they have threshed Gilead with implements of iron.

So God is saying "Three times I will forgive, on the 4th I will punish"

So when Peter says 7 times me thinks this was generous, but also possibly looking for some commendation.

But Jesus takes it way past that.

He is saying you have been or will be forgiven (death on the cross) for the thousands of sins you have committed and will commit. That being the case remember that and be quick to do the same. By grace you have been forgiven and by grace you forgive. Be like me.

Now if we take what God said in Amos if we sin the 4th time after the cross does God punish us and wipe us out, remove us from the book of life?

Sin is sin.

Now if we think unforgivness is a sin and we die with unforgivness in our hearts are we going to hell?
One sin is sin.

Let's say tomorrow that I find out someone sinned against me.
I go of angry, as I do then I'm run over by a bus.
I have not forgiven them.
Am I going to hell?

I do have to say though that I do not think forgiveness is not a good work.
In fact it's a hard work. That is my experience.

To me it's an outworking of the forgiveness we have been given and is something we then walk in.

It may take a while before the HS does move this faithful man or woman to do the works of God. This is a growing process, after one believes and becomes a knew person. But eventually we will know that they have faith because of their works.

Remember their works alone will not save them, just like their faith alone will not save them. It takes a concerted effort to believe, have faith, be full of the HS and be full of good works in keeping the commandments of Jesus. The combination is what saves, all other stand alone elements (if they continue to stand alone) become dead elements. Dead works, dead faith.
A person is saved the MOMENT they have saving faith and say yes to God.

Jesus said come to him and he will give you rest. And here you are saying it takes alot of work. Rest my friend Rest. It is not work to those who belong to christ. It is work to those who do nto belong to christ but are trying to work to gain access to christ.

Hi TruthTalk,

Do you understand the connection you are making between a cult leader who lead
people to suicidal death and others sharing about listening to Christ and following His ways?

What has happened to you to confuse these two things?
From your testimony about your childhood it is very disturbed, so it makes me wonder if this
is where your imaginings are coming from. I hope you understand how vile, poisonous and
unbelievably abusive such an accusation is.

I cannot conceive literally how you even know Jesus and make such a comparison.
Even worse that those who have no emotional and spiritual discernment would agree with
you.

I read about the reformation, both sides would tell of the horrendous attrocities and evil
they had committed, so people should rise up in revenge and commit such horrible things
against their enemy. 25% of the population of europe died because of such bile as this.

And those who spread such hatred are filled with it, like a stream flowing from their hearts.
I have met people redeemed out of such communities, and I know it destroys generation after
generation of people, and leads to terrorist groups, and murders of innocents. So this is no
minor issue, or passing words about two groups disputing over theology. This is seriously
evil and wrong.

So there is something eating you alive, because nothing else brings this type of language up,
and you are the first I have come across to do such a thing. You really need to repent and
be free, or it will doom your soul forever.

Dear brothers and sisters is Christ, if a man cannot discern love and truth, honesty and sincerity,
caring and giving to others in Jesus, then whatever else fills their life, it is not the Holy Spirit.
Jim Jones leading gullable people to suicide en masse <-------very bad, tragic, sad

Pseudo Christians and false working for sinless perfectionists leading people to the lake of fire with eternal consequences <------far worse than the above!

a part of discernment is learning and accepting definitions of words. a big part of false religion is just saying words while ignoring the meaning.

you ignore the meaning and definitions of words. how can you correctly practice discernment when you do this?
Impossible......one cannot ignore context, verbiage and or the inspired Greek and Greek verb tense without missing the mark and or teaching error!

And jesus said, it is finished. It being the plan pf salvation has been completed. Literally in the greek the words used mean “paid in full”

It is finished, You have been justified, You have Eternal life.. etc etc etc...

End of story.

We work the works of BEING SAVED, not the works of GETTING SAVED.

Try to learn the difference between sanctification and justification please.

Philippians 3:12-21 Pressing on Toward the Goal Not that I have already obtained all this, or have already been made perfect, but I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me. Brothers, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus. All of us who are mature should take such a view of things. And if on some point you think differently, that too God will make clear to you. Only let us live up to what we have already attained. Join with others in following my example, brothers, and take note of those who live according to the pattern we gave you. For, as I have often told you before and now say again even with tears, many live as enemies of the cross of Christ. Their destiny is destruction, their god is their stomach, and their glory is in their shame. Their mind is on earthly things. But our citizenship is in heaven. And we eagerly await a Savior from there, the Lord Jesus Christ, who, by the power that enables him to bring everything under his control, will transform our lowly bodies so that they will be like his glorious body.

Paul was no intern, and he was not talking about making sure he was saved or headed to heaven, He knew he was going to heaven, Thats why he considered all his pain and suffering a momentary light affliction.

What pauyl was pushing for was the work God gave him to do in earth.

Salvation is not a prize, it is a GIFT. Paul was tryign to earn one of the many rewards God has in store for those of us who do the work.

Paul spoke of sanctification. Paul KNEW he was justified. Again you need to learn the difference.

The way it sounds , you do believe that even a DEAD FAITH can save you since you can no longer deny it otherwise you'll have to admit that you were wrong which i think is not in your vocabulary.

So you can call everyone else names and mock them but you do admit that your faith is dead and JUST AS THE BODY WITHOUT THE SPIRIT IS DEAD, SO FAITH WITHOUT WORKS IS DEAD.

Revelation 3:1-3 To the Church in Sardis “To the angel of the church in Sardis write: These are the words of him who holds the seven spirits of God and the seven stars. I know your deeds; you have a reputation of being alive, BUT YOU ARE DEAD. Wake up! Strengthen what remains and is about to die, for I have not found your deeds complete in the sight of my God. Remember, therefore, what you have received and heard; obey it, and repent. But if you do not wake up, I will come like a thief, and you will not know at what time I will come to you.

Matthew 25:1-46 The Parable of the Ten Virgins “At that time the kingdom of heaven will be like ten virgins who took their lamps and went out to meet the bridegroom. Five of them were foolish and five were wise. The foolish ones took their lamps but did not take any oil with them. The wise, however, took oil in jars along with their lamps. The bridegroom was a long time in coming, and they all became drowsy and fell asleep. “At midnight the cry rang out: ‘Here’s the bridegroom! Come out to meet him!’ “Then all the virgins woke up and trimmed their lamps. The foolish ones said to the wise, ‘Give us some of your oil; our lamps are going out.’ “‘No,’ they replied, ‘there may not be enough for both us and you. Instead, go to those who sell oil and buy some for yourselves.’ “But while they were on their way to buy the oil, the bridegroom arrived. The virgins who were ready went in with him to the wedding banquet. And the door was shut. “Later the others also came. ‘Sir! Sir!’ they said. ‘Open the door for us!’ “But he replied, ‘I tell you the truth, I don’t know you.’ “Therefore keep watch, because you do not know the day or the hour. The Parable of the Talents “Again, it will be like a man going on a journey, who called his servants and entrusted his property to them. To one he gave five talents of money, to another two talents, and to another one talent, each according to his ability. Then he went on his journey. The man who had received the five talents went at once and put his money to work and gained five more. So also, the one with the two talents gained two more. But the man who had received the one talent went off, dug a hole in the ground and hid his master’s money. “After a long time the master of those servants returned and settled accounts with them. The man who had received the five talents brought the other five. ‘Master,’ he said, ‘you entrusted me with five talents. See, I have gained five more.’ “His master replied, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master’s happiness!’ “The man with the two talents also came. ‘Master,’ he said, ‘you entrusted me with two talents; see, I have gained two more.’ “His master replied, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master’s happiness!’ “Then the man who had received the one talent came. ‘Master,’ he said, ‘I knew that you are a hard man, harvesting where you have not sown and gathering where you have not scattered seed. So I was afraid and went out and hid your talent in the ground. See, here is what belongs to you.’ “His master replied, ‘You wicked, lazy servant! So you knew that I harvest where I have not sown and gather where I have not scattered seed? Well then, you should have put my money on deposit with the bankers, so that when I returned I would have received it back with interest. “‘Take the talent from him and give it to the one who has the ten talents. For everyone who has will be given more, and he will have an abundance. Whoever does not have, even what he has will be taken from him. And throw that worthless servant outside, into the darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.’ The Sheep and the Goats “When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, he will sit on his throne in heavenly glory. All the nations will be gathered before him, and he will separate the people one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats. He will put the sheep on his right and the goats on his left. “Then the King will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world. For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.’ “Then the righteous will answer him, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?’ “The King will reply, ‘I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me.’ “Then he will say to those on his left, ‘Depart from me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels. For I was hungry and you gave me nothing to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me nothing to drink, I was a stranger and you did not invite me in, I needed clothes and you did not clothe me, I was sick and in prison and you did not look after me.’ “They also will answer, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or needing clothes or sick or in prison, and did not help you?’ “He will reply, ‘I tell you the truth, whatever you did not do for one of the least of these, you did not do for me.’ “Then they will go away to eternal punishment, but the righteous to eternal life.”i

dcon been dealing with the same arguments and answering honestly but being attacked with false accusations for a loooong time

it saddens me when i see people make the strawmen and lies against any of my brothers and sisters in Christ...

then even when they are proven wrong about their false claims and lie

they continue making strawmen
blame shifting
and avoiding the actual issue at hand

truth......
Amen bro....liars cannot help but lie, deceivers cannot help but deceive and working for sinless perfectionists must do both when dealing with those who do honestly, scripturally answer.....they must destroy anything that contradicts their false dogma....

John 3:16-17
16 For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. 17 For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.

Ephesians 2:4-10

4 But God, who is rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, 5 even when we were dead in trespasses, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved), 6 and raised us up together, and made us sit together in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, 7 that in the ages to come He might show the exceeding riches of His grace in His kindness toward us in Christ Jesus. 8 For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, 9 not of works, lest anyone should boast. 10 For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.

Romans 5:1-4
Chapter 5
Faith Triumphs in Trouble
1 Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, 2 through whom also we have access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God. 3 And not only that, but we also glory in tribulations, knowing that tribulation produces perseverance; 4 and perseverance, character; and character, hope.

Faith is what saves and justifies before God no works required to gain eternal life in Christ!

Matthew 19:16-30 The Rich Young Man Now a man came up to Jesus and asked, “Teacher, what good thing must I do to get eternal life?” “Why do you ask me about what is good?” Jesus replied. “There is only One who is good. If you want to enter life, obey the commandments.” “Which ones?” the man inquired. Jesus replied, “‘Do not murder, do not commit adultery, do not steal, do not give false testimony, honor your father and mother,’ and ‘love your neighbor as yourself.’” “All these I have kept,” the young man said. “What do I still lack?” Jesus answered, “If you want to be perfect, go, sell your possessions and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.” When the young man heard this, he went away sad, because he had great wealth. Then Jesus said to his disciples, “I tell you the truth, it is hard for a rich man to enter the kingdom of heaven. Again I tell you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God.” When the disciples heard this, they were greatly astonished and asked, “Who then can be saved?” Jesus looked at them and said, “With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.” Peter answered him, “We have left everything to follow you! What then will there be for us?” Jesus said to them, “I tell you the truth, at the renewal of all things, when the Son of Man sits on his glorious throne, you who have followed me will also sit on twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel. And everyone who has left houses or brothers or sisters or father or mother or children or fields for my sake will receive a hundred times as much and will inherit eternal life. But many who are first will be last, and many who are last will be first.

Please tell me the 'context' of the parable of the merciful king? Then maybe I will understand better.

And after you have explained the context, then explain the ending where the one big debtor that was saved, was eventually thrown in prison to be tortured until every last cent was paid back. And why was he unsaved? Because he did not forgive his small debtor. Explain that ending 'in context' and how it relates to the OSAS scenerio.

And remember Jesus's words, "So likewise shall my heavenly Father do also unto you, if ye from your hearts forgive not every one his brother their trespasses". Matthew 18:35.
You will continue to be in error until you acknowledge that Jesus was born, lived and died UNDER THE LAW which RATIFIED the NEW COVENANT which superceded the OLD...and the parable is directed at the legalizing JEWS/ and disciples who were living by the letter of the law while ignoring that which is found in the NEW which was coming on line.....the words of JESUS must be understood in light of this truth....reject if you like...your pseudo blend of grace and law/works will save no one! And it has nothing to do with salvation

….ALL who exercise saving faith into the work of Christ will have your sin debt covered, the imputed righteousness of Christ which = saved, sealed, justified and sanctified in Christ eternally…..

ElAmor

What do you mean by "exercise" isn't it to practice and not just say and claim or just a lip service? Do you preach about a genuine saving Faith without doing anything? Is preaching not a work? Assuming that Faith alone saves, can a person have Faith and be saved without someone preaching to them the Gospel of salvation?

If you are a preacher, can you say that you are not doing a work? If it is so then what are you doing? Is preaching the Gospel of our salvation irrelevant or unnecessary to our salvation? Does it embellish or add anything to your Faith ALONE doctrine?

Take 1 second and actually think about and ponder what this thread is about.....serious.....it is about HOW ONE IS SAVED not WHAT THEY DO AFTER THEY ARE SAVED.....it IS FAITH ALONE THAT SAVES.....end of story........!

If “ Faith ALONE" saves, can one have faith without hearing the message? The verses below proves that a work is needed and essential to salvation….PREACHING.

It is not of ourselves that we may not boast.( ephesians 2:8-9 ) A Faith that works in Love.( galatians 5:6 ) A “selfless LOVE" that thinks about the welfare and SALVATION OF OTHERS and not just his own interests.( philippians 2:3-4, 1 john 3:16-18 )

Romans 10:14-17 How, then, can they call on the one they have not believed in? And how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard? And HOW CAN THEY HEAR WITHOUT SOMEONE PREACHING TO THEM? And how can they preach UNLESS THEY ARE SENT? As it is written, “How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news!” But not all the Israelites accepted the good news. For Isaiah says, “Lord, who has believed our message?” Consequently, FAITH COMES FROM HEARING THE MESSAGE, and the message is heard through the word of Christ.

2 John 1:4-11 It has given me great joy to find some of your children WALKING IN THE TRUTH, just as the Father COMMANDED US. And now, dear lady, I am not writing you a new command but one we have had FROM THE BEGINNING. I ask that we love one another. And this is love: that we WALK IN OBEDIENCE TO HIS COMMANDS. As you have heard from the beginning, his command is that you WALK IN LOVE. Many DECEIVERS, who do not acknowledge Jesus Christ as COMING IN THE FLESH, have gone out into the world. Any such person is the DECEIVER and the ANTICHRIST. Watch out that you do not lose what you have worked for, but that you may be rewarded fully. Anyone who RUNS AHEAD and DOES NOT CONTINUE in the TEACHING OF CHRIST does not have God; whoever continues in the teaching has both the Father and the Son. If anyone comes to you and does not bring this teaching, do not take him into your house or welcome him. Anyone who welcomes him SHARES IN HIS WICKED WORK.

Who are those RUNNING AHEAD and DOES NOT CONTINUE IN THE TEACHING OF CHRIST?

They are those who CLAIM SALVATION is by Faith ALONE and ONCE SAVED they are ALWAYS SAVED therefore rejecting God’s Laws and commands which are in fact God’s own words, who says that even obedience to God cannot save anyone because they are works and Faith ALONE saves.

Who then is the deceiver and the ANTICHRIST?

They are those who do not continue in the teaching about WALKING IN LOVE which is WALKING IN OBEDIENCE TO HIS COMMANDS. Who do not acknowledge Jesus as coming in the flesh by the mere fact that they reject the LAW that prophesied about Jesus as coming in the flesh.

1 John 2:1-6 My dear children, I write this to you so that you will not sin. But if anybody does sin, we have one who speaks to the Father in our defense—Jesus Christ, the Righteous One. He is the atoning sacrifice for our sins, and not only for ours but also for the sins of the whole world. We know that we have come to know him if we obey his commands. THE MAN WHO SAYS, “I KNOW HIM,” BUT DOES NOT DO WHAT HE COMMANDS IS A LIAR, AND THE TRUTH IS NOT IN HIM. But if anyone obeys his word, God’s love is truly made complete in him. This is how we know we are in him: Whoever claims to live in him MUST WALK AS JESUS DID.

….-JESUS HIMSELF TAUGHT THAT WE SHOULD OBEY THE COMMANDMENTS.

Matthew 19:17 “Why do you ask me about what is good?” Jesus replied. “There is only One who is good. If you want to enter life, obey the commandments.”

John 14:15 “If you love me, you will obey what I command.

Matthew 28:19-20 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”

Luke 6:46 “Why do you call me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ and do not do what I say?

….Does the true Gospel teaches disobedience? NO!!!

The True Gospel teaches LOVE and OBEDIENCE and not DISOBEDIENCE.

So whoever is teaching that OBEDIENCE to the commandments cannot be added to FAITH for salvation is rejecting God’s and Jesus’ commands to walk in obedience to His commands and it is clear in the bible who they truly are. (2 john 1:1-11)

Hebrews 5:7-9 During the days of Jesus’ life on earth, he offered up prayers and petitions with loud cries and tears to the one who could save him from death, and he was heard because of his reverent submission. Although he was a son, he learned obedience from what he suffered and, once made perfect, he became THE SOURCE OF ETERNAL SALVATION FOR ALL WHO OBEY HIM.

Does not prove your point. You can post scripture till your blue in the facer. Until you understand the difference between sanctification, and justification, You will continue to errr, and teach a false gospel of works.

Your no closer to being saved than the jew who tried to add law or circumcision to the gospel. Because they refused to repent.

….ALL who exercise saving faith into the work of Christ will have your sin debt covered, the imputed righteousness of Christ which = saved, sealed, justified and sanctified in Christ eternally…..

The above proves you do not understand and twisting it to equate preaching as works FOR THE ONE BEING SAVED BY FAITH ALONE is idiotic and as dishonest with scripture as one can be!

Sorry mate but no one is going to read the above.

You need to break it down into paragraphs.
Define "noone" lol,as most know I made wall texts so I tend to read them too if needed.
