It's a story about perseverance, strength and commitment that comes from allowing God to be the center of marriage.
Exactly brother. When God is NOT the foundation of a marriage, it crumbles. That’s why it’s important when getting married, I believe that it’s not only declaring your love and commitment for your spouse but also the covenant with God to honour the union between bride and groom. Like what Lil Mer said, it’s “how you see things in a different way than how the world see”, are we seeing through flesh or are we seeing through spirit?

Making love and all that other stuff is just a bonus, after marriage :)

I'm kind of disappointed by some of the posts that are clearly rooted in the disillusionment of some by bad marriages.

Scripture is clear that marriage is a covenant between three parties: God, a man, and a woman.

Paul makes it abundantly clear in Ephesians 5 that God created marriage to be an earthly picture of the relationship between Christ and His church.

The reason wives cannot properly sumit is because their husbands do not properly love. If a man really loved his wife like his own body her care and comfort would be very important in his eyes.

What she thought on a matter would be important also, true love will not dismiss another's dreams and schemes. If you loved like that, there would be little room for selfishness.

Well said, sir.

No, that would be the wife loving the husband conditionally. That is not the kind of love that a wife is to have for her husband. That is fleshly, human love.

God's kind of love is selfless, unconditional regard for another person. If the wife is waiting for her husband to become worthy of her godly love (submission, respect, etc.) then she is not walking in God's love toward her husband. She is not walking in the Spirit.

When two people are waiting around for the other one to become worthy of their love you have a marriage made in hell.

I don't disagree with anything you wrote.

But...

People enter that covenant to have sex.
Since marriage cost money........

I don’t disagree with you cause in some cases, that’s the truth but in some other cases, people do generally marry for the purpose of marrying.

Btw, everything costs money these days....even writing this message to you, using my data that I pay for costs money.

Nothing we do will be carried off perfectly, but we can get a lot closer than you seemingly think. I have seen marriages from hell, and there was very little love in them. Again I say, it would be easier for both husband/wife if they were trying to apply the Eph. 5:22-33 scripture to their relationship.

So many years I have heard people with different view of what marriage is and why they marry. some because their friends ,relatives are getting married ,others especially ladies after schooling because they don't have what to do,then gentle men to have fan .others to inherit the riches.????
I’m still not sure what marriage is. I’m 37 and still haven’t found a husband. The older I get the less I want to be married. I’ve been out of a relationship for a year now and I am happier than ever.

there is no doubt that marriage is certainly, and should be, a loving gift from God.

my parents have got divorced and it took me a while to heal and to rebuild my relationship with God. it has taken me years :)

My little brother mentioned this once and it made sense to me. Basically everyone in your life comes and goes. They are only there for a season. I am not just talking about friends but parents and children too. Sure, they'll be around but they won't exactly be with you forever. You're not going to be seeing your son when he's 40 years old everyday, right?

A spouse is the person you have the longest "season" with...or at least that's the goal. Till death. So my brother said "marry your best friend...the person you want by your side for the rest of your life." I think that's a neat way of thinking about marriage. It could be the longest relationship (out of all kinds of relationships) you have with anyone on this earth.

That's a cool way of looking at it.

In fact, the other night I was rather glum at the thought of losing my mom (bound to happen unless something goes terribly awry) and perhaps losing my future spouse, sister, uncle, various friends, etc.

Long life is a blessing for sure, but I think I'd almost rather die at an average age and be with my God and dearly departed. Guess you don't know until you get there.

How much does your younger brother charge for his services and how can one access him?

I will honestly say that if I marry it will be one time and one time only and my husband is not getting out of it alive.

And this is why I've built up an inescapable dungeon.

Er... I mean, set of unbreakable marriage vows.

I guess for some reason, men seem a little less intimated if I word it the second way.
