The Catholic Encyclopedia, 1913 Volume III, 1908, Christmas:

The well-known solar feast, however, of Natalis Invicti, celebrated on 25 December, has a strong claim on the responsibility for our (Catholic) December date. For the history of the solar cult, its position in the Roman Empire, and syncretism with Mithraism, (see Cumont's epoch-making "Textes et Monuments" etc., I, ii, 4, 6, p. 355. Mommsen ‘Corpus Inscriptionum Latinarum, 12, p. 338’) has collected the evidence for the feast, which reached its climax of popularity under Aurelian in 274.”

Not as form of religious worship, but to mark "appointed times" (that can show us the timing of a Feast, Sabbath, prophetic event) is one reason the sun, moon and stars were created:

Genesis 1:14, "And the Mighty One said, “Let lights come to be in the expanse of the heavens to separate the day from the night, and let them be for signs and appointed times, and for days and years.”

Psalm 104:19, "You appointed the moon for setting the appointed times. The sun knows its going down."

However people have twisted these into their own way:

Psalms 74:4, “Your adversaries have roared In the midst of Your appointments; They have set up their own signs as signs.”
And for the seasons the earth is tilted on its axes so the winter and summer solstice are signs of the coming season.

I agree.

and want to add this, probably the most awesome sign in the heavens:

Matthew 2:2-10,
2 saying, “Where is He who has been born Sovereign of the Yehuḏim? For we saw His star in the East and have come to do reverence to Him.”"
7 Then Herodes, having called the Magi secretly, learned exactly from them what time the star appeared."
9 And having heard the sovereign, they went. And see, the star which they had seen in the East went before them, until it came and stood over where the Child was."
10 And seeing the star, they rejoiced with exceedingly great joy."

Nehemiah 9:6, “You are יהוה, You alone. You have made the heavens, the heavens of the heavens, with all their host, the earth and all that are on it, the seas and all that are in them, and You give life to them all. And the host of the heavens are bowing themselves to You.”

IMO surely was quite the sight to see in the little town of nazareth.

and while it may be differnt, but in ways similar, yes it must have been amazing, especially to have heard the prophecy, believed it, sought it and witnessed it come true. IN a similar way we have read much prophecy and seen and are going to see it come to fruition... He is the Mighty One.

Do you have any logs in your eye here?
Now ask yourself the same question?

See how easily that can be turned around.

Seems like everybody's got a Bible verse to cut someone with, right. No one wants to turn it back on themselves and examine their own behavior, though.

Question: Should we celebrate Christmas or we should not celebrate because it's paganism?
It's a nice little unbiblical holiday that gets the saved that do not go to church in church and even the non-saved in church. People even act Biblical, they give to the poor and those in need. So Scripture is fulfilled; what was meant for evil G-d has turned around for good.

 You don't see what you just did there. You simply turned it around to point at you.
Putting that log I was talking to someone else about into your own eye.
That's not clever.

And look who approves you. The one who took this thread pages off topic playing games and avoiding personal truth so as to jump on people, then play the victim, until after pages and pages they finally answered a simple question. They made a topic about them.

Is that kind of behavior good? A holiday xtian? Who makes the appearance due to a holiday so as to appear magnanimous in theory with the theme of the holiday once a year? Once a year?
When we as Christians are in Christ and serving God all year round.
Those type people you describe aren't serving God. They're taking their wool costume out of mothballs, putting it on, and taking advantage of the image and likeness it affords when they're then seen casting their shadow on the threshold entrance of a church.

And then there's Easter. When they can do it all again. A pagan holiday first and that celebrated and remains so, the goddess of the spring equinox, Ostara. God created rabbits don't lay eggs!

LOL... You still don't get it, huh? Still can't see it can you?

So here's the moral of the story one more time.... We all need to be willing to judge our own self ( me included), and I have no problem with putting it back on me and applying it to my own self.

But what was this for you some kind of personal attack on that guy. I mean really, you're still going on about all you think he is doing wrong. Don't you even notice or care that you came in here falsely accusing him of being HR and when he said he wasn't you still went on for pages about it. I mean seriously, if you can't see that then whatever...I tried, anyhow;)

And quoting others shouldn't be a big deal either so what if I was orginally speaking to another poster, that was done to me on #259 and I didn't make a issue of it. if we are going to have issues with something we should practice them first.

So, do you observe the Biblical Holidays like we are commanded to?

Which feast did the New Testament Church stop keeping? Did the feast continue and the non-Jews participate along with the Jews.... How does it read in Scripture?

Since you brought it up I think that is a great addition to the thread that discusses what was first a pagan holiday. And true enough, a Christian creates "Christmas", known as Yule, or Christ's Mass, as they see fit. Though the gifts the Christ babe received were to insure in his time that he an his family would be rich so as to fulfill the God anointed mission he was born for.

Being you brought it up, would you kindly list those Biblical holy-days ? This may inform those who don't already know and allow for a new calendar in the Christian members life. :)

Not being sarcastic or anything... but I really would like to know if the NT says that once we are saved we should start following Jewish traditions and keep the feasts and things like they did.

If it does or even implies it, then I have totally missed it.

Did you miss where the Apostles kept the Sabbath after Christ was crucified? They weren't Christians. They were Jews. Just like Jesus was born into that faith.
