So why do you think Jesus said to the Canaanite woman that "I am sent only to the lost sheep of Israel?" Was he joking with her or do you think there was another reason?

Jesus came to His own but they did not receive Him. He was the promised Messiah...but they wanted to overthrow the Roman government rather than have the 'suffering servant' of Isaiah 53

notice that He calls Israel lost sheep. do you know who the Canannites were?

I am sent only to the lost sheep of Israel (all Israel is not born again Israel) That verse simply means as many (the elect ) that the father gave to the Son they alone will come. Not one more or one less. Remember its God who finds us giving us His word so that we can in turn find Him .

What man of you, having an hundred sheep, if he lose one of them, doth not leave the ninety and nine in the wilderness, and go after that which is lost, until he find it? And when he hath found it, he layeth it on his shoulders, rejoicing.And when he cometh home, he calleth together his friends and neighbours, saying unto them, Rejoice with me; for I have found my sheep which was lost Luke 15:4-6

Well someone here told me recently you can't be saved without a Bible. So all those missionaries wasted their time. All those that came to faith without the Bible are in hell today. I've learned so much here. (sarcasm)
maybe they believe in the 'hit you over the head until you are converted family edition, hard copy 5 lb Bible' folks used to like to keep in their living room

I learn all the time here :cool:

Jesus' initial mission was to racial Israelites and, as far as I know, He made just a few exceptions to this.

did you know anyone could become a Jew if they chose to convert?

what do you do with that?

don't try to put understanding in a box. it leads to great error

The Canannites were lost sheep like all of humanity?

I would add that Scripture is written to three distinct people, the Jew, Gentile, and the Church which is His body. 1 Corinthians 10:32

This is why we are commanded to study and rightly divide Scripture so we can determine proper doctrine.
It never indended us to blanketly reject non pauline books.

Are you saying if a person cannot read that person cannot go to the Kingdom, be saved, love God?

My friend who could not read came to me ands said, "J, you know what, I'm David." Well I thought he had snapped his buttons, and then he explained all.

WE are all David when we go to fight the enemy, in this case, Goliath. We pick up five smooth stones, and with One Stone we slay him. That stone is Jesus...…...Now I put it in my words and recollection, for this was 49 years ago. So, please refrain from sarcasm. I am not sarcastic with others nor with you. God bless you always.
Im not doubting your story, im just asking: WHERE do you live when you got people who cant read walking around? You've said Spain if I recall correctly.

Do you shave your head like paul?
Eat meat sacrificed to idols?
Command all women to cover their head when praying?

Obey all pauls ordinances in 1 cor 11?
- No, I don't shave off my head because this is not a commandment for Christians. Paul did it because he had taken a Nazirite vow.
- I don't eat meat sacrificed to idols, but if it is a matter of life or death I can eat it because idols are nothing;
- In my denomination all women wear a veil throughout the church service and anywhere else while praying or prophesying;
- My denomination follows 1 Cor 11 to the letter.

Nope and I certainly acknowledge all Scripture is given by inspiration of God. But I also understand that rightly dividing the word of truth is vital for doctrinal issues.

Re-read my post. I said someone told me a person cannot be saved without a Bible. You missed it completely.

i've heard of that too. Shows a lack of knowledge about HISTORY. And how the Bible is a rather new thing to have! What do I mean? I mean that no-one before the 1500s was walking around with a Bible in their hand.

Many people even after that couldn't even read, so it would do them no good. Not to mention the first century, how'd they manage without a Bible you ask? Well, they had the Holy Ghost and lived by faith, the gospel isnt written with INK it says in Corinthians, but rather the people are the living epistles and its written in human hearts by the Spirit.

Being literate is NOT a qualification for being saved. Only qualificaton is: ARE YOU A SINNER? Well lucky for you friend, you just qualified for redemption through the Lord Jesus Christ and His blood shed on the cross.

Meditate on just who Israel is.
Of the 73 times that the word "Israel" is used in the NT, all of them refer to "Israel". :)

There are only 3 times (3 of those times used ^ ) that it is in dispute SOME times, between those holding to Covenant Theology …[and Dispensational Theology--didn't word this right,... ignore, no time... :D ]... and only in 1 time (one of those) that most Covenant Theology proponents agree amongst themselves (that they believe it means "the Church")… forgive me, I'm in a rush to do some work so won't have a lot of time to respond :) ... (explanation at link):

Do you believe the prophecy of having the laws written in our inward parts and on the taqblets of our hearts is directed to those who believe Jesus?

Therefore remember that formerly you, the Gentiles in the flesh, who are called "Uncircumcision" by the so-called "Circumcision," which is performed in the flesh by human hands- remember that you were at that time separate from Christ, excluded from the commonwealth of Israel, and strangers to the covenants of promise, having no hope and without God in the world. But now in Christ Jesus you who formerly were far off have been brought near by the blood of Christ. For He Himself is our peace, who made both groups into one and broke down the barrier of the dividing wall, by abolishing in His flesh the enmity, which is the Law of commandments contained in ordinances, so that in Himself He might make the two into one new man, thus establishing peace, and might reconcile them both in one body to God through the cross, by it having put to death the enmity. and he came and preached peace to you who were far away , and peace to those who were near ;
Ephesians 2:11‭-‬17 NASB

There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free man, there is neither male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus. And if you belong to Christ, then you are Abraham's descendants, heirs according to promise.
Galatians 3:28‭-‬29 NASB

My denomination is called Christian Congregation in Brazil. Ministers are unpaid and don't study theology; there is absolutely no room for politicians; there is no tithing (all contributions are voluntary and anonymous); most of the church buildings (more than 99%) are built by the members themselves; absolutely nobody is put under spotlights; orchestra members (also unpaid) sit on pews just like any other member; there are no choirs and no solo singers.

My denomination sets good examples, no doubt, but there is also a downside: Many preachers are very limited for lack of Bible knowledge. That's why I'm not sure I can advocate for lay ministry.
