(Matt 11:19
The Son of Man came eating and drinking, and they say, 'Look at him, a glutton and a drunk, a friend of tax collectors and sinners!' But wisdom is vindicated by her deeds.")
This puts the teetotalers in a somewhat bad kind of light.
Wine in the Bible can mean fermented or unfermented grape juice.
Luk 1:15 For he shall be great in the sight of the Lord, and shall drink neither wine nor strong drink; and he shall be filled with the Holy Ghost, even from his mother's womb.
John the Baptist could not drink any alcohol for he was to prepare the way for Jesus, and he was filled with the Holy Ghost from his mother's womb.
So you know Jesus did not drink alcohol for He was conceived by the Spirit.
Pro 31:4 It is not for kings, O Lemuel, it is not for kings to drink wine; nor for princes strong drink.
The Bible says it is not for princes or kings to drink alcohol, and Jesus is the Prince of peace, and the King of kings, and has made all the saints kings and priests unto God the Father, so they should not drink alcohol.
Also the Holy Spirit is our Comforter so what so we need alcohol for which is a fleshy pleasure.
The Pharisees accused Jesus of many things because they did not believe on Him, even saying that He cast out devils by Beelzebub, the prince of the devils, but that is not true.
If someone opposes someone they will clutch at straws to find fault for they want to put them down, and beat their opposition.
Pro 20:1 Wine is a mocker, strong drink is raging: and whosoever is deceived thereby is not wise.
Pro 23:29 Who hath woe? who hath sorrow? who hath contentions? who hath babbling? who hath wounds without cause? who hath redness of eyes?
Pro 23:30 They that tarry long at the wine; they that go to seek mixed wine.
Pro 23:31 Look not thou upon the wine when it is red, when it giveth his colour in the cup, when it moveth itself aright.
Pro 23:32 At the last it biteth like a serpent, and stingeth like an adder.
Pro 23:33 Thine eyes shall behold strange women, and thine heart shall utter perverse things.
Pro 23:35 They have stricken me, shalt thou say, and I was not sick; they have beaten me, and I felt it not: when shall I awake? I will seek it yet again.
Do not drink the grape juice when it ferments.
It might of been alright in the Old Testament to drink wine for they did not have the Spirit, but I do not see how it applies in the New Testament, and even in the Old Testament God did not recommend it.
If God allowed us to drink a little alcohol, but do not get drunk, that would be a temptation, and God is not tempted with evil, nor does He tempt any person.
For it does not make sense to be able to drink a little alcohol when it could lead to more, for God did not say you can kiss a woman not your wife, but do not fornicate, but you have no sexual contact with her at all, or you can steal a piece of bubblegum, but do not steal a car, but stealing is stealing.
But regardless what a person believes about alcohol Jesus did not drink alcohol, for if John the Baptist who was filled with the Holy Spirit from the womb could not drink alcohol, for it was not permitted of the Lord, then Jesus who was conceived by the Holy Spirit could not drink alcohol.
And if the saints receive the Spirit, and are born again, and the kingdom of God is within them, then they should not drink alcohol.
Also God said His will be done on earth as it is in heaven, and they are not up there in heaven drinking alcohol, and they are not sinning either, and the ones that did are not there anymore.
I do not see how alcohol can apply when someone has the Holy Spirit who is the Comforter, for are they saying that the Holy Spirit failed at comforting them, are they saying that alcohol can comfort them better than the Holy Spirit.
Which the Spirit gives us power, love, and a sound mind, peace that passes all understanding, joy that no person can take away, rest for your souls, and spiritual rest.
What do they need alcohol for.
But the Bible says that some have a form of godliness, but deny the power thereof, ever learning and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth, which they are led of the flesh, so they would like alcohol for they do not have the comfort of the Holy Spirit, which they are lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God, and alcohol is a fleshy pleasure, for it has nothing to do with being spiritual, which is testified that it impairs people physically.
Because Jesus ate with the sinners did not make Him a glutton, and a drunkard, but because He ate with sinners the Pharisees accused Him of the same thing the sinners were doing.
